- Today we show you how to change out a laser in a CECH-2001A model PS3. The change is very similar to any CECH-2xxx PS3 systems. This video is not meant as a true HOW-TO video but more to show what we do when changing out a laser and to give you some basic information about PS3 systems.
We hope you enjoy it and if you have ANY questions then please leave them below and we will try and get answers back to you as quickly as possible. - Hry
As someone with no skills, your instructions were spot on. After replacing the laser, when I turned on my repaired PS3 & the DVD & Game disc played, it was better than my honeymoon 50 years ago. Thanks!
Glad it worked for you.
Great walk-through. I played this while I did my repair and now my PS3 is reading discs again. I appreciated hearing the failure behaviors as it reaffirmed my hunch that this was the issue.
Glad it helped.
Just followed along to this video to replace my laser. Worked like a charm. Awesome. Thanks!
Glad it worked for ya!
Very helpful video. I replaced my laser deck easily by following the steps in this video. Thank you!
Followed exactly what you did. I found the whole assembly for only a few dollars more than just the laser alone. I forgot to get some lithium grease, so I'll have to open the reader again just to add some. Great tutorial!
You should be fine without the Lithium grease to be honest. :)
Great video! Got me up and running in no time! Thank you.
Thank you for the guide! You made the process very simple and my PS3 is now back in action.
Glad I could help!
Thank you for making a very thorough and noob friendly video. I have the same model that you operated on and as you mentioned, the disc goes in, seats down in the drive and does absolutely nothing. Does not even register. I will be ordering a new part to do this replacement. Also loved NHL '11. Great game. Go Hawks!! Liked and subscribed. Thx again.
Thank you for these vids, just replaced this part, worked like a charm!
You're welcome.
Thank you for this guide! Your narration was very well done and I appreciated the close-up and the explanations of what everything was. Really appreciate this, as someone with no technological background who just wants to play older games.
Glad it was helpful!
your video helped me fix my slim's disc drive. i had to take spare disk drive that wasn't married to the mother board and take the laser off it and put it on mine and swap the cables to the old one. thanks!
Thank you so much for the video. I clean my ps3 lens and I never thought, it would work.If it were not for your video, would never open my playstation 3. Sorry for my english. I speak spanish. You're the best!!!
I know this is an old video but, I got my system up and running again from your video. Thank you!
Glad it helped. It may be an old video but they haven't made those systems in so many years. With that in mind, this video may be a classic but it still works. ;)
This video was very professional and helpful. My Japanese PS3 Slim was identical to these instructions and is now working again. Thank you soo much!
Glad it helped
Thanks for sharing this video. It was extremely helpful for me.
You made the tutorial seem so easy!!! I'm gonna watch it again when my Laser Deck comes to my house and I'll update you on the news! Thanks for this video, professionally explained!
Update: It worked like a charm! Thanks for teaching me man I'm so happy to get back to gaming on the PS3! Thank you ❤
Thanks! Glad to hear that it helped.
Awesome video, Fixed my PS3-2001a model with this vid, and the system works great!
Glad it helped!
thanks to your video I've fixed my CECH2001A, thank you for making such a detailed video showing your process. Your recommendation to purchase the whole 'deck' assembly was spot on, it was only $16 compared to $13 for laser alone; as someone who does electronics repair for work this so totally worth it and appreciated!
Glad it has worked out for you so well!
Great vid, where can i purchase the laser assembly and whole deck drive?

This video made the repair super simple. Lots of good tips. Thanks!
Thanks, glad it worked for you. :)
worked like a champ, thanks!
I just came here just to clean the laser. He's so good at this he actually helped me with other things outside the replacement.
Haha.. glad to hear that I can help.
Very useful after many years, thank you dude!
Well, the systems don't change so the video is absolutely current. :)
Thank you for video. Replacement was very easy. Wham bam thank you mam
Love the video, thanks!
Thanks a ton, fixed my PS3 using your instructions. Saved me some cash!
Glad I could help
This was exactly the guide I was looking for!
Glad it helped!
just fixed up a ps3 i got from a friend by replacing the laser. thanks for this guide!
Nice work!
You got Mad Skills! Thanks it works lots better.
Glad I could help
2022 and i can't believe i was having this prob special thanks to you i was able to replace mine my self not the first time doing some work on my disc drive tho reason for this is am a owner of a next console but the ps3 still has a place in my heart i have remaining games left to play so...lol... thank you so much for this guide i truly Appreciate it.
Glad it worked out! :)
Awesome Vid ,got ps3 with same problem followed video , I'm back in the game Sub for sure Thanks Bro
Great video, thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
TY i just repair mine with your video. Thank's
Glad it worked out.
Thank you. Very useful.
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for the video, I just discoverd my ps 3 problem, defect blue ray laser.
Yeah, unfortunately it is quite common. Glad the video helped you out! :)
I just finished replacing mine , thank you very much, now wife can play skyrim.
Nice! Glad to hear it worked for you.
Thank you for the video. It's nice to see a grownup give detailed instructions on this R&R. I'm an old person with just two games and my Sys. is 6+ YO and does like you said, it accepts the disc, then after some seconds makes that click sound and refuses to read. I will replace the Deck, but would like to know the "quality" source for the deck. Can you share ? I have the CECH2001A, KEM450AAA. It also reads DVDs only, but no BlueRay.
Mine is the opposite , it reads blue ray/PS3 games but not PS1 games. I’ve replaced my deck twice and still have this issue
Hello, i just repleaced the disc drive - do you have any clue as to why my disc drive isnt detecting discs? It detected it sometimes, so the ribbon is in the right orientation, but now it doesn't detect anything so the drive cannot accept discs. The black and red connecting to that light sensor ooks fine and connected. Also, whenever my drive is connected, when I press the eject button it makes no sound instead of beeping. (Also I used a speperate video and it told to replace he entire disc holder mechanism thing thats held in by the 4 screws, not just the laser like in this video)
ok, thanks. The board is the green box that you removed before removing the old lens.
So could I just get an entire new drive and put it in? Like when you disconnected the ribbon cable from the main console, could you just get a whole new drive? Or does that mess stuff up and make it so you need to replace the laser specifically?
Very good tutorial, weighing my options out here, definitely think ill use your videos once i figure out what i gotta do specifically! 💕
No; you can't and there is no reason to.
Have the CECH-2001A as well, and I need to replace the laser module or maybe I'll replace the whole drive. It has the KEM-450AAA module and BMD-061 controller in it. In my PS3, DVD's and CD's play fine - just bluray do not. The modules are way to expensive on EBAY right now so I'm looking for broken or cheap selling PS3's locally. Which models are 'safe' to scavenge a drive from? I'm finding it hard to get another CECH-2001A. Or which KEM or KES laser decks are okay with the BMD-061 controller? Thanks for the video.
Please watch the video. I highlight everything you need to know about which laser works right in it.
Ask me a question. I saw that there are several models of lenses. How do I know which model is right for my PS3? On the nameplate is written CG159888599 CH2001A. Thanks for listening.
This video was really helpful. I took my PS3 apart and put it back together. Apparently it needs that deck that you suggested. Is there a good place where I can get the correct deck? I have found a ton on eBay but not sure how good they are.
I'm in Canada and got mine from esourceparts.ca. Got it in 2 days and I'm back up and running already. This video had every single detail I needed, except i didn't listen when he said he puts the magnetic disc in the cover so he doesn't forget. Had to take it apart a second time.
Yes, that is one source but I have noticed that their lasers are very low quality. We have had to order a few in the past from them but it is hit and miss.
Finally I found a video that applies to my issue, I think. My PS3 disk drive stopped reading disks consistently. Do you guys have a location in Toronto? I don't trust myself to replace the laser.
Sorry, we stopped doing customer repairs in March of 2020. We are only one location located in Barrie, Ontario.
Hey Very nice and helpful videos. I am in Japan n planning to buy a ps3 just for fun. Do you think i should go for slim or super slim ? On the one hand i feel the slims slot loading mechanism is problematic and prone to failures, where as the super slim is simple n nice. But i heard the super slim uses cheap parts and overall quality of slim is better. Im a bit confused.. i wanted to buy a slim but worried about the slot loading mechanism... What do you suggest ?
Really late reply but always go for the slim. The super slims are poopy.
This one is the best one
Thanks
So this model does not have that ribbon cable underneath the drive? That's a lot easier...
Good tutorial, thanks.
One thing: Where would you go about getting the replacement parts?
I have no experience buying replacement parts for the drive but i do getting potentiometers for the DualShock 3 and Amazon, Ebay and God forbid AliExpress are all useless for those (they will all be Chinese copies with incorrect parameters). Actually even the actual vendor is a lottery because you have to get lucky enough to get a potentiometer that matches whatever the controller was calibrated to account for in the first place. I'm rambling lol.
Hi, my ps3 (cech 2004b, original 250gb slim) stopped reading bluray disks and at first I wanted to replace the whole laser block, but later I learnt about the remarry issue so I’ll change just the laser deck as you did.
I know it’s an absurd question but, if I replace just the laser deck without replacing the driveboard, it all should go fine right? (Assuming the new laser works ofc)
Thank you and great video!
Not sure what you mean by "laser block". I believe you mean "drive". Yes, as long as you don't replace the driveboard, you are fine and you will not have an issue.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada yes, I meant the laser drive, sorry for my bad translation from Spanish…thank you!
like this video, you just answer my question about my ps3 not reading the disc and not spinning,i took it apart and cleaned it still did not work, i had it with out the cover and the laser worked but then it did not, thanks
"worked". Just because the laser lights up and does something does not mean it is working. I have never cleaned a laser and never will. If it is not reading then we replace the laser with a brand new replacement. I recommend that you go that route to get your system working again. Good luck.
Ok so the other night I did the replacement. The game I put in played fine the whole time. When I went to eject it, it would not come out. Just beeped 3 times. I opened it back up to remove the disc and when I put it back together and tried to insert the disc again, it wouldn't takenit. Just made a grinding/tapping noise. Any idea what the problem is? Any help is appreciated
Hey man I have 2 ps3 slim consoles and I changed the whole drives while both consoles had the same SCPH number, the new drive didn’t accept any disks at all while it worked on the other console previously. Will changing this part as you did in the video from the other console work soo you think? Thanks for any feedback appreciate it
The drives have to be from the same model of PS3 Slim. There are two model families. 2000 series and 2100 series. The 2100 series do not have a driveboard but the 2000's do. If you swap out a 2000 model drive then you have to also swap the driveboard.
Hey, good video! Will this also fix ejecting and inserting? Mine stopped pulling the disc in? Thanks
No, this fixes not reading discs. Your issue could be a cable issue, motor driver issue or a fuse.
Looks easy enough.
If you take your time, it is.
Everyone I've seen replacing lasers in slim PS3s disconnect the logic board before removing the original laser deck and reattach it after putting the new deck in. This is needlessly difficult. First slide the laser to the back to give it enough slack to loosen the logic board then slide the laser module down and then unscrew and remove the laser deck with the circuit board still attached.
After that you can freely disconnect the board without having to do it from only one angle. I'd personally recommend not even removing the cable from the board and disconnecting it from the connector on the laser instead. Then before you put in the new laser attach the logic board before it goes in. So much easier than trying to finagle it upside down.
There is no difficulty. It was only difficult because I did it on camera. :)
I need to change mine too. Sadly after almost 10 years the Blu-Ray laser (still reads DVDs) said goodbye (already cleaned it and everything). I got the same model with 120 GB. Which one is the correct one to buy so that i don't make any mistake? The KEM 450AAA should be the right one am i right? Thanks for your help beforehand.
Yes, you should be fine. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. :)
Question: will ANY replacement deck for a PS3 FAT work? Do I need to try to match numbers? I am close to yours with a CECH-2101B. Can I use your same new deck?
No, you can't swap drives from different models for most part and absolutely not a fat drive in a slim.
Where do you buy your parts from and great video.
Sorry but unless you are buying in bulk, you wouldn't be able to buy from our source. But we appreciate that you enjoyed the video.
Question: Do you have to "remarry" a new laser deck to a CECH-3001 models? I've read that you don't have to on 2000 and 2500 models but wasn't sure if that's true or what "remarrying" even means. If you could shed some light on this that would be much appreciated! Thanks for this video!
No, the laser has no idea what it is being installed into. The driveboard is what is "married" to the system. We don't change that out so that isn't an issue.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada Thanks so much, man! Ordering my laser now!
@@PowerUpGamingCanada Ok, so the plot thickens. Before I ordered a new laser, I dropped in a working disc drive from a 2501a console into a 3001b console. Now that the 2501a's drive is in the 3001b, it only plays PS1 games; just like the faulty 3001b's drive. The 2501a's drive played PS3 games before and after I swapped the drives back; as long as it's in the 2501a console. Is this to be expected and I should proceed with buying a laser for the 3001b or should I inspect something else? I assumed that if the 2501a's drive was incompatible with the 3001b then it wouldn't play anything at all. Thanks in advance!
I have the same exact setup. I ordered a new laser for the ps3 and they ended up sending me a whole new disc drive. However, when I simply replaced the old disk drive with the new disk drive, it takes the CD and spins up but same issue as before, it wont pop up the game on the screen. Do I need to do additional steps than just replace the old drive with a new drive? I thought I saw somewhere the board inside the old drive needs to be taken out and put in the new drive so the motherboard can properly read it? I also noticed the ribbon that goes from the side of the drive to the main board had the blue part ripped off. So I ordered a new cable, maybe the cable is bad? Any thoughts?
Sounds like you need to swap out the drive board for the original. He mentions it around 3:30 in. I had seen some other comments about having to swap out the board if you replace the complete drive, so I ended up just purchasing the deck/laser as described in this video. Haven't done it yet, but basically just going to follow along with this video when I do :)
As mentioned below, you really need to watch the video. You can't swap the drive.
I Like Ur skilled work , but Please help mate - I'm UK based - do you know where is the best places to order and bye a brand new lazer for a ps 3 super slim online from , I have another issue I've done a careful dismantling but there's more than one code on the deck intact one or more each side of said deck which is the right code ? Is it the one on the same side as the lens that is a sticker at the outer edge of the metal deck frame work or is it the one / code on the under but outer side of the deck that I need to check upon the planned online order
Your laser will be a 450AAA or 450DAA. I talk about how to tell in the video by the number of security screws at the front of the console. If you have three screws then it will be AAA. If you have 4 screws then it will be DAA. As far as ordering, we order from a distributor so I would be unable to give you advice on where to buy them.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada Sorry to trouble you again I've checked and what you said is correct with my PS3 slim but i needed gudence for the Supper Slim This model came out after it and I don't have a working usb or compatible hard drive at present so cannot transfer the saves and progress over and simply use the standard slim instead of my Supper Slim which is the Next Version of the PS3 Slim that I instead needed your help with ... for the fact still remains that on my Super slim there's more than one code slapped on the Laser drive deck and I am unsure which code is required when sourcing out a replacement laser for that other more recent console .
Sorry, I did not see you mention of super slim. The part number for the laser will follow the following sequence KES-xxxx. You have not provided what "codes" you are seeing so I am unable to answer your question better then that. I would also like to request that you no longer contact our store directly in regards to your comments. Power Up Gaming no longer does customer repairs of any kind and as such, we are allowing the world to still use our reference videos but we will NOT respond to further requests directly at the store. As you are in the UK, even when we did repairs, we wouldn't be able to do work on yours as the shipping cost would be too extreme.
Hi, you said you do replace and fix cd laser. My PlayStation 3 Spider-Man edition CD stop loading games. Can I buy the Correct new CD laser from you?
We don't do customer repairs anymore and have NEVER sold repair parts. Sorry.
replaced mine just as you did and still not reading discs could it be a bad drive or possibly the laser ribbon bad?
99% most likely a bad laser. It is VERY hard to find a good supplier these days.
Hello!! can u please let me know the model no. of the laser. and also the website or the link where you purchased that from. Thank You
I cover the part number in the video, please watch. As far as a website, unless you want to order 100+ at a time, you won't be able to buy from the same source as us.
Is remarrying only for replacing the whole bluray drive?so your instructions doesn't need remarrying?
Replacement a laser does not reply remarrying. Remarrying is only required to replace the control board located on the drive.
I replaced my laser deck twice and my PS3 plays PS3 games perfectly fine with no issues but when I put in a PS1 game it will spin the disc for a bit , stop , spin and then make that “click click” sound like it’s reloading the disc. Any tips?
Your laser is a dual laser. One lens reads Blu-Ray and the other reads DVD's and CD's. If it reads one and not the other then your laser is dead. I talk about how bad replacement lasers are in most of my videos. It is VERY hard to find good quality parts. Unfortunately you will have to replace your laser to get it to read those games.
how I can due, I’m not a expert in this area. can you help me?
Hello, Thank you for sharing. Would you know the exact model number for this laser replacement part?
I talk about the model number in the video my friend.
What's the difference between a 2001A and 2001B?
Thanks for the info. Mines doing a click click. think i need a new deck.. hmm
New laser or order as a new deck.
Do you all sell these drives ?
Hi I have a ps3 but says I need to update I think the hard drive is modded says something about using a USB and also have a ps3 comes on but won't read any disks so I guess the laser is broken
I'm a noob when it comes to try fixing..
is there any help tips you can give me please so I can fix..
can I swapp the laser from a ps3 slim into a ps3 super slim or will it not work..
Thanks
If it says you need to update then most likely the drive is either dead or is going bad. Replace the hard drive and install the full PS3 update found on the Sony website.
In regards to the other one, the laser is most likely dead but good news, you are literally watching the video that will help you out. You can NOT swap a super slim laser in to make it work.
Well, looks like I will need to do this. My PS3 only reads games if I tilt it, so it's probably a bad blue ray laser since it reads DVD's and PS1 games. But yeah, I tried cleaning the lens already but it didn't help, so I guess that I have a half working laser.
That's why I refuse to clean lasers. It is a very short temporary fix at best. Good luck with your laser replacement. Wish you the best.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada PowerUpGamingCanada Yep. I had similar problem with my PS2 in the past, and cleaning lens actually fixed it and it still works even today. But yeah, it did not fix my PS3, hah'. But yeah, thanks for a good wishes, hope it will all go well.
31:09 - 31:45 why does it take so long to read the disc? im assuming this only happens the first time you play a game after replacing the laser, right?
That's how long it takes.
My friend has a PS3 Slim that is in amazing condition except it begins to read a disc, but after a while stops. I cleaned the lens once but since the issue is continuing I think I needs a new disc drive or laser replacement. Any recommendations for sources of supply?
You dont need a new drive and "cleaning" doesn't work. Replace the laser. No recommendations for lasers. We buy from distribution in bulk.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada thank you. I’ll try to locate a new laser and follow your guide.
Hey, can you help me? I have this same model. I bought a new laser and now dvds is working but not bluray. Bluray discs spins and stops and spins and stops. I can see the clock icon but it doesn't load any games, only dvds. I opened the case when the bluray disc was inside, I saw how the laser was first blue and then both eyes blinks red. Laser is moving up and down how it should. I just don't know what to do because I have checked everything million times and every cable is connected right. Is my new laser faulty too? :(
Ducksoni your new laser is a dud.
Sort of a hail mary. I've been working down the possible lists of why my Slim PS3 (2501A) is neither sucking in disks, reading disks, nor launching digital games. I've rebuilt the blu-ray drive a few times, making sure all the parts are in correct alignment but it still doesn't work. I've watched this video and the 450DAA video and neither have solved the issue. I haven't changed the laser yet but it shouldn't be that hard to do if it is the case.
Do you have any insight on getting this thing working? My next attempt will be replacing the HDD just in case it's something silly there. But if it's not that, I'm running out of options short of just buying another PS3 🤭
If the drive is not working then it will be related to the drive so no issue with the HDD. Does the unit power up at all? If not then most likely a motor driver or fuse issue.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada so I did already order and set up a new HDD before this response. Which, ofc, didn't fix it 🤭
The console powers on perfectly but it doesn't launch digital nor physical games. When I reseated every BD ribbon cable yesterday, I noticed the console stopped noticing that there was a BD inserted altogether.
When I reseated them AGAIN, the console identifies a BD but now doesn't beep when I try to insert a disk.
My hopeful guess is a faulty ribbon cable. I will investigate that angle before doing anything else
Hi people from Poweup, I have that same PS3, and my blue ray does not work, I ordered one for ebay, I installed it and it does not work for me. I said that all PS3 blu-ray drives are NOT plug-n-play.
Each pcb circuit drive board is married specifically to that console.
you must either flash the newly purchased drive with your original drive's firmware / key or
install your original drive logic circuit board (PCB) into this newly purchased drive.
A better alternative to swapping the pcb circuit board is to flash the newly purchased drive with your original drive's firwmare. How I can do it?
Why would you not use your original drive board with the replacement drive? Problem solved.
Mine looked a little different than this, I had to figure some out myself but it was still straight forward. Replaced the deck and got it back together but no luck. Still not reading. Just sounds like it loads twice. I can hear the laser trying to read but it wont. There's no chip board inside my deck at all, that's normal right? It just plugs in right below the drive and it's very hard to plug back in I might add! lol
CECH-2501B 320GB
I'm also left with one tiny little silver screw. I hope that's not messing things up lmao! I guess I'll have to go back in and see if I can find where that belongs now. :D ....Dangit! haha.......... Oh that was easy. It goes right up in the bottom of the plastic case. Well, who knows, I'll try it again with that in there and see what happens....... No luck. Same thing. Insert disc.. bump, bump, bump, bump, sounds like ejecting and inserting though disc stays inside then bump, bump, bump, bump again, then nothing.
If yours looks different then you are looking at the wrong model system. :)
@@PowerUpGamingCanada Oh, you have your favorite model uh? haha. I contacted the ebay supplier and he's sure the laser is no good and he's sending a replacement. We'll see.
Which tools do we need for opening ps3? any special screwdriver?
Watch the video. I talk about every step including tools.
So if my ps3 slim tries to read the blu ray disc, stops and makes a clicking noise, the laser is the problem? It reads DVDs but not blu ray. Should I just replace the whole deck?
Yes, if you watch the video then you would know that the exact problem you posted here is talked about.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada After rechecking my ps3,I decided to replace the whole deck. Your video was very helpful!
Well, I replaced it and all, but now for some odd reason my PS3 slim is refusing to pull DVD's in, so I can't even see if it will read them. Anyone had the same issue? Any help is more than welcome.
Who do you guys buy your laser decks from?
We buy them in bulk through distribution. Unless you are buying 50+, you won't be able to buy them from the same source.
I removed the 2 screws that is holding the top plastic piece in place with the weird loading arms and 2 clips holding it at the back. I replaced the laser head from the top, put it back together and now the mechanism won't load the disk. When I put a disk in, it starts to wind the disk in but stops at half point and doesn't finish properly loading it, the mechanism doesn't raise to securely grab the disk. What did I do wrong? I replaced heads in drives before but I never dealt with a slot load mechanism before.
In one way or another, your drive isn't properly aligned. You have reset the drive to a fully rested state before you put the top cover back on. There is no way for me to really diagnose it without seeing it first hand. Sorry.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada No prob, thanks for the reply. I'm writing from Hungary so checking it in person would be really expensive :) I'll tinker with it a little more.
how do I know which one to get? For Playstation 3 PS3 Slim Console KEM 400A 410A 450A 450DAA 450EAA 451A 495A 850A Laser Lens Blue-ray Optical Pick up with Deck?
PS3 Slim = KEM-450aaa
This is all covered in the video for the model. You have to know which one you have and then you will know which one you need.
Im beyond baffled, that screw i took out holding the blueray in the back, does not fit back in!!!!! im going crazy looking for a screw i swear i set in a spot for memory purposes.. yes the little black screw that u just took out, its too small for the hole, i swear its the same screw. a glitch in the matrix. please help
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. The case and everything else holds the drive in fine regardless.
help with the black tab on the ribbon
That's not exactly a question.
Any recommendations on where to buy the deck?
Unfortunately not. We buy them in bulk but just try and find someone who is selling them that has a good reputation.
I got mine from ebay who claims to have a 60 day warranty on them. The one I got didn't make the discs read though. I sent him a message, we'll see how it goes.
where did you buy the replacement laser.?
We buy them in bulk from the manufacturer.
Tried this with two different slims and every time I get it installed I start getting "an error occurred during the start operation" errors (80010006 and 80010017). You ever experienced this or know how to fix it?
Sounds like you are trying to swap more then the laser. Are you changing drives?
@@PowerUpGamingCanada I swapped the entire laser deck, like you did in this video, rather than just the laser itself, yeah. Have you ever gotten these errors? Maybe I just got a low quality part?
Is it safe to assume, that if my PS3 reads PS1 games and not PS3 games that I only need to replace the laser assembly, and not the whole deck?
As mentioned in the video, there are two lenses. One for blurqy and one for non bluray. There is never a situation where you are required to replace the deck but sometimes it is easier.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada thanks!
@@jayfanes1125 You're welcome.
What site is best for buying the laser replacement, just want to be sure I get something new
I have 2011 ps3 not reading the disc how much for the laser
This video shows you how to replace it. We don't sell parts and we actually don't even do customer repairs anymore. :) Good luck.
Anyone know where I can get some of those rubber things, or what there called so I can look it up and ask local parts? Screws would not come up and take the rubber in the gaps, causing it to not screw out. Had to physically rip it out and destroy most of them just to get it free. If not, an idea to put something in its place then
I am not even sure what you are talking about when you say "those rubber things". Do you happen to know a point in the video that may show these "rubber things"?
@@PowerUpGamingCanada I found some more, lol
They were the rubber stomps, grommets as a term, to hold the whole device in place to keep it from rattling.
Didn’t realize I can steal those from my super slim that is full out black screened
No way no how can I manage to get the laser ribbon attached to the board. I hate these types of cables. Anyway I have to remove the cable from the laser and attach it to the board first and install it. Then lastly re-attach the ribbon to the laser from the top side. What a pain!
Interesting. I have never had an issue so it's completely possible.
Is this replacement laser still available to purchase?
We have never sold them but yes, they are available at places like aliexpress or Ebay.
What if the ps3 wont draw the disc in? The system wont start up if i insert a disc either. Any ideas?
Then you have sn issue with the mechanism or the ribbon cable or a fuse or many possible other things. What is your system actually doing? Does it make noise and try to take the disc? Is your drive completely dead?
@@PowerUpGamingCanada the console will power on when a disc is placed in the drive, but it doesnt take the disc. No motor action no matter how far I place the disc. I have opened it to look around and clean it up but i dont see anything obvious.
@@IanPrino it could be the motor driver 9n the control board. The board is getting power at least. Take to a repair place.
Hello! Where could i find blu ray lasers for ps3?
Ebay or aliexpress seem to be the best option.
@@PowerUpGamingCanada ok
My new ps3 pad doesn't connect with my console.... please what's wrong
You might want to give a bit more information as no one can answer based on what you said. What did you try? What happened?
Ok
Ps3 cech 2104B laser model is?????
Might want to look that one up as I have never seen that model sold here and therefore have never worked on it.
I noticed my worm gear had a white oily liquid on it is this normal?
That is white lithium grease and there should be a bit on there for lubrication. Not too much but a little.
PowerUpGamingCanada Thanks for the answer. Would WD40 be good to use as a replacement or petroleum gel?
No no no.. There is a reason why I told you to use White Lithium grease. WD40 is absolutely not grease. It is a penetrating oil/lubricant that displaces water. It does not belong anywhere near electronics.
Do you have a kik account? I would like to send you a short clip of my problem with my ps3.
Unfortunately not. You could send it to our FaceBook page if that is an option. fb.com/pugcanada
Where should I buy a new laser, don’t want to get scammed
I can't answer that for you unfortunately. Just do your research and ensure you are buying from someone with a positive reputation.
