    Orlando International Airport is a primary international airport that is located 6 miles southeast of Downtown Orlando, Florida.
    In 2021, it had 19,618,838 enplanements, making it the busiest airport in the state and seventh busiest airport in the United States. The airport code MCO stands for the airport's former name, McCoy Air Force Base, a Strategic Air Command (SAC) installation, that was closed in 1975 as part of a general military drawdown following the end of the Vietnam War.
    The airport serves as a hub for Silver Airways, an operating base for Avelo Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines, as well as a focus city for Frontier Airlines. Southwest is the airport's largest carrier by passengers carried.
    The airport is also a major international gateway for the mid-Florida region, with over 850 daily flights on 44 airlines. The airport also serves 135 domestic and international destinations. At 11,605 acres, MCO is one of the largest commercial airports in terms of land area in the United States. In addition, the airport is home to a maintenance base for United Airlines. The airport was also a hub for Delta Air Lines until 2007.
    The airport is currently building a new terminal south of the Terminal 1/2 complex. In May 2015, the Board of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) voted unanimously to approve construction of the $1.8 billion South Terminal Complex. The South Terminal Complex will be built adjacent to the Orlando International Airport Intermodal Terminal, which was completed in late 2017 and is connected to the existing terminal by a Automated People Mover (APM) line. At full buildout, the South Terminal Complex will have 120 new gates.
    Phase I (which will be known as "Terminal C") of South Terminal Complex will encompass approximately 300 acres and will include new aircraft taxiways and aprons, a 2.7-million-square-foot terminal building with 20 gates. Construction of Terminal C began in 2017, and it was opened on September 19, 2022.
    The Orlando International Airport Intermodal Terminal was built to accommodate an extension of the SunRail commuter rail service. The route to the current SunRail line would travel along an Orlando Utilities Commission rail spur, before either branching off to the intermodal station, or have an intermediate transfer point on to light rail to complete the journey to this station.
    Multiple options are being considered for a link to International Drive, either with elevated maglev train system, connecting the airport to the Orange County Convention Center, the Florida Mall, and the Sand Lake Road SunRail station, or a light rail link running along a similar route as the maglev alternative between the airport and International Drive.

    I had not been to this airport in over 23 years. It has definitely got much bigger now. I did not recognize it at all.

      I can certainly agree. It seems everything has gotten bigger over the years.

    If I'm flying out from Terminal A and want to enjoy the lounge in terminal C, would it be possible to go pass security then go to Terminal C?

      They each have their own TSA security. I’m not sure if the lounges are past security in Terminal C but if they are then you can get a Day Pass for Terminal C to get past security. There is also a tram that will take you between terminals.

    I hope to take a vacation to Florida soon and revist the Walt Disney World Resort, the Universal Orando Resort and SeaWorld and look around in the themed gift shops when I arrive there before I board the bus to the Walt Disney World Resort.

      I am sure that you will have a great time! I personally had not been to any of the parks in several years. With the launch of this channel I am starting to re visit them and find most of the new additions and changes to be amazing. Make sure you subscribe and keep an eye out on this page as I re visit more of the parks. I am sure it will help you prepare yourself and also get you excited to come back.

      @@LetsWalkTheWorld247 Thanks, I really do appreciate it. I too would like to see how the Walt Disney World Resort has changed over the years as well as the new things that have been added there over the past few years such as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom and after seeing many videos of those themed areas here on CZcams, they certainly do look quite impressive, especially at night. I wish I had gone to the Walt Disney World Resort for the 50th Anniversary Celebration before it had ended on March 31, 2023, but unfortunately, I missed out on it because I couldn't afford to go at the time. If I had gone there for the 50th Anniversary celebration, I would ride The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios to relive the memory of when my father and I had first rode it when it was formerly known as Disney-MGM Studios at the time, God rest his soul. He died from congestive heart failure at age 70 on March 4, 2012. When I take a vacation to Florida and revisit the Walt Disney World Resort, I am going to stay at Disney's Wilderness Lodge because the decor reminds me of the Disney Channel comedy television series "Bunk'd" since Seasons 1 through 5 takes place at a summer camp, and after I board the bus to the Walt Disney World Resort, I am going to the listen to the song "New" performed by Paul McCartney on my phone on the way there. If you would like to listen to the song, here's the link to it.

      I agree, their prices can get a bit steep if you leave your car for a long trip. Luckily as locals we have other options around the airport. Tourists usually rent a car so they don’t have to worry about it.

    Hi! If I'm flying into MCO via Southwest Airlines into Terminal "A" what rental car agencies are on "Terminal "A" side?

    • @LetsWalkTheWorld247
      @LetsWalkTheWorld247  Před rokem

      I believe that the Rental Companies have desks at both terminals. However, I am not 100% sure since I have never rented from the MCO locations.

    • @LetsWalkTheWorld247
      @LetsWalkTheWorld247  Před rokem

      There are many different Car Rental Companies with in a 5 minute drive from MCO. They are usually cheaper and not as busy. (I had a friend fly in to MCO and he had to wait for over 2 hours because the rental lines were so long.)

    I don't like the terminal C look. I hope there will be more design and plants in future.
