Do you know the 5 tools of baseball? The 5 tools are a grading system that professional scouts use to grade professional players. Hitting for average and hitting for power are 2 of the 5 tools. The other three are speed, arm strength, and fielding ability.
Even though these 5 tools are a good assessment for all levels of baseball, I think youth baseball players should only focus on 4 of them. In today's bullpen bulletin, I'm explaining why youth baseball players shouldn't focus on hitting for power until they're in high school - and why hitting for average is so much better while you're learning as a young player.

What do you think about the idea of hitting for average over power in youth baseball? Do you agree or have a different opinion? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Told my son to concentrate on contact and the homers will come. Problem is he hit the most homers last year and thinks he's a boss now. I hope he concentrates on contact still
One thing I would say to my son (only 6 months old right now, but if he were old enough to hit home runs 😆) I would tell him to think long term.
When he gets to high school, pitchers start throwing harder. If you have a “home run” swing, you’ll never catch up to higher velocity. If you have a compact, contact swing - the velocity will do the work for you to hit the home run, you just have to put the barrel on the ball 👍
Nah man go yard!
Haha you'll still get the bombs with a compact swing, no worries there
