- A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women - led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) - begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.

Just seen the movie. That's when I say only the British can do this so perfectly.. the wit is absolutely fun!! Never thought swearing could make me laugh with zero discomfort Lol. Olivia Colman is what she is the best at what she does! Jessie Buckley won the trophy here for me, insane! Wow I completely forgot Rose isn't real. Perfect match with both ladies ❤
Couldn't agree with you more! I loved it! Greetings from Holland 🇳🇱
Just been to the movie, the funniest I have have seen in such an age. Still smiling. Loved it.
I've never had a crush on anyone (famous) in my whole life, until I saw Jessie Buckley. She's everything!
She's beautiful and such a talent! I also find it so weird, that her dad is Tim...but not THEE Tim Buckley (singer) and yet she totally looks like both Tim and Jeff Buckley. V strange coincidence.
I love Olivia Coleman! She chooses wonderful projects.

It amplifies it so much more, makes it more hilarious when they swear at each other!
Well, they still will be there in the movie itself so that's the good news)
I'm not watching this because it has blakc people in it anyway.
What’s funny about swearing? Takes little talent or imagination
I really loved this movie. A great comedy. We needed this!😂
Curiously, this seems to be the *clean* version of the advert! I saw the uncut version in the cinema ads today and pretty much the whole audience wet themselves. 😂
What a gem! 💎

True. It’s very sad and has made things worse.

Obviously, Gladys Moss, the first female Sussex police officer, was not Indian.
And there were no black judges in the 1920's either and highly unlikely that the ladies playing whist would have had a black friend in the 1920's. If historical films were made about the black community they wouldn't have to replace half the cast with white people. It's getting ridiculous.
A wonderful lesson in historical white washing.
Saw this last night and yes it's absolutely hilarious
Gladys Moss was the first female police officer in England. She was white.
Not only that she was a trailblazer, she has a blue plaque honouring Sussex's first female police officer, it's a bit of an insult to her memory.
@@hetrodoxlysonov-wh9oo What's the insult?
@@richardforshaw-smith7111 Portraying her as someone she wasn't, if she was black do you think they'd have had a white actor portray her and how would her family have felt about it.
@hetrodoxlysonov-wh9oo I think "insult" is a bit much. Don't worry about it. If the family are upset about it (and I've found nothing to say they are) it's their business.
@@richardforshaw-smith7111 I think it's an insult to her memory, I'm not worried just think it's a shame they couldn't portray her as she was in life.

Much closer to 100% white. 99.99999999999999%; at least.
There was actually a small black population in the east end of London. As well as established black populations in Bristol since the 1700's and Liverpool. And many famous black people at the time did live In London for a while. Marcus Garvey etc

It seems like a real fun film.
There's a problem with the "Based on a true story" bit,
in that my great grandfather never set foot in Europe.
Especially the southern English countryside was all white.
Yes, one could find more foreighners in the big cities,
but most Englishmen would have never seen a non-European in their entire lives.
For the sake of historical accuracy.
Could you please add the preface;
"This film has been adapted, to fit a more diverse cast, for the sake of fairness".
I, and especially my parents shall apreciate, such an acknowledgement of our struggles, on this great Continent.

It doesn't matter in the uk. Money must be spent on "the message" as long as they have it. The sooner everyone realises it the better we can come with a different counter.
Now the highest grossing British comedy of the decade, still in the top 3 after 4 weekends. Better luck next time.
Compulsory diversity at a time where their was none.
When are we finally just see a woman playing the first policewoman? Just enjoy a good movie, people❤
I get your point but you apparently don’t see the other one? It’s just weird how hard they are trying to rewrite the history. It’s not surprising that inaccuracy irritates people. It just happens that it’s about the skin colour. If they would depict Marilyn Monroe with black hair and in jeans we would roll the eyes just the same.
So funny Quess she would have been diagonsed with Tourettes today

Why do the film industry aggressively keep inserting demographics into U.K. history who literally *weren’t there?*

@@GovnaBuckingham white are clown lol 🤡
Its a bloody film based on actual events
I stopped watching halfway through. Maybe I missed something because I gave up at the twist in the middle but I was just so frustrated by then that I had to turn it off. While the acting is commendable, the plot felt predictable as everything we have seen in film since 2016 was written by misguided leftists. It seemed like a typical formula film portraying Christians and men as the primary antagonists, suggesting that these groups are the issue. True innovation in storytelling would involve moving beyond stereotypes and not casting large segments of society as villains based on their gender or beliefs.
Wole rubbisb
Part of a huge LIE. Boycott this movie. Olivia is a great actress but why do she and others not stand up to these falsehoods.
You need to ask why?
Because she would be blacklisted and lose her comfortable income if she went against the state's woke message.
She’d be cast out like a snotty rag.
Because normal people don't care
@@Tom-ed2fc And therein lies the problem.
Another propaganda fantasy
Reading these comments is an incredible journey into the self-deceptions of the English film audience. Were you upset when Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow didn't speak in Elizabethan English in Shakespeare in Love? Were you howling when Nazi Germany wasn't shown in full colour in Schindler's List? Were you furious when Elizabeth Taylor played the Egyptian queen Cleopatra? No. You accepted these as artistically justified decisions, made to speak to a particular audience. They aren't historically accurate and that's fine because that's how film works. I wonder why *this* casting decision is upsetting to you?
Except the deliberately inaccurate casting of this film was not an artistically justified decision, but rather one imposed by the state:
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
