Frank Vogel Discusses Being Down 3-0 as Suns Lose Game 3 126-109 to Timberwolves

- Coach Frank Vogel meets with the media after the Phoenix Suns fall down 3-0 in their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves with their third straight blowout loss, a 126-109 defeat in their first game at home.
The season has not gone the way anyone envisioned it, as Phoenix is now in danger of being swept in the first round despite having Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal on their team.
The Suns were outrebounded 50-28 tonight, as Anthony Edwards had 36 points for Minnesota.
For the third straight game, the Timberwolves dominated the third quarter, outscoring Phoenix 36-20. The Suns have now been outscored 95-61 in third quarters this series and haven’t scored more than 21 points in the quarter.
Game 4 is on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. MST. The Suns will be looking to avoid their first series sweep since 1999, when the Blazers beat them 3-0 in a best-of-5 series. They haven’t been swept 4-0 since 1989 when the Lakers did so in the Western Conference Finals.

My dad has been a fan since season 2 in 1970. He was a ball boy for the Suns and has been a die hard fan for 53 years. Tonight, he said this was the most frustrating and disappointing season he has ever watched.

As a Minnesota born fan, I respect Frank Vogel's honesty and strategy. I watched the Suns get outplayed again, but I definitely saw them make a hell of an effort and awareness what they need to do. There was definitely more juice. I hope they bounce back in the series and get to a game 7. May the best team win.
Thank you for your kind words, but Frank only coaches one end of the ball. His incompetence on the offensive end is what's caused for this series, and quite honestly the whole season to be bad overall.

@@Azmade7 Ayton did the Suns dirty low-key. They hired this fool thinking that Ayton would still be with the team, but Ayton asked out. The only reason Frank got the job is because Ayton is the type of center that he likes to coach and utilize as an anchor for his top 3 defenses. Ayton asking out screwed the Suns because the Suns had already committed to Frank by then.

Coach isn’t responsible for everything though, he didn’t construct the team! But personally i don’t think anyone has the guts to get in the stars faces and hold them accountable, i mean showing your pissed off and really grilling them and teaching when they’re not performing not just saying we need to do better..otherwise what’s the point in being a coach or wanting to be coached. Monty was soft, Frank almost as soft. We need a hard F’ing coach who doesn’t discriminate or pander.

@@signorpops8520 Offense AND defense wins championships. We haven't ever seen a team win without scoring. Last year's champs didn't have ONE player with defensive accolades. They depended on Jokic and Murray's offensive prowess more than anything.
But if you truly believe that, name me at least 5 teams that won multiple championships being a top 5 defense with a bottom 10 offense. Because outside of 2 seasons, that's what Frank's coaching got his teams.

Suns have zero offense, three ISO scores going one on one against the best defense in the league. Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniel, Nikeil Alexander-Walker along with Gobert form their own All-Defensive team. Chris Finch identified his roster as being able to have an elite defense prior to the season began. Great defense will always trump a great offense, Suns can look back at D'Antoni and his SSOL Suns to know that. Trading Deandre Ayton for Jusuf Nurkic will go down as one of the worst trades in Suns franchise history. Phoenix needs to trade Devin Booker this summer. He is NOT that guy. Game two play where Booker goes one of four, commits offensive foul then whines about it and demands Vogel to review the call. Suns lose challenge and a time-out. The young guns, Edwards and OKC's SGS have taken over this season. Suns, Clippers, Lakers are all through as presently constructed.

Ayton was disgruntled. He didn't want to stay even after Monty got fired. I can guarantee that the only reason the Suns Hired Frank was because of Ayton. Ayton screwed the team because he asked out after the Suns had already committed to Frank. The rest is history.

FRANK VOGEL stop it! That's 100% bullshit. Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Damion Lee and Eric Gordan don't have the IQ or experiences to break-down their opponents defense to make the offense easy, manage the game clock when they have possession of the basketball, bring the best performance out of the small forward, power forward, and center. Frank Vogel, you don't know how to create effective defense and offense plays to get the win, but you allowed Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Damion Lee, and Eric Gordan to do as they please when they are in the game just to collect an NBA paychecks. Phoenix Suns never had a BIG three or a SUPERTEAM because Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Damion Lee and Eric Gordan are just okay team players that needs to be TRADED to a rebuilding NBA team so possibly they can develop point guard and shooting guard skill set. We have been watching Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Damion Lee, and Eric Gordan dribble, shoot, and miss TOO long. When the Phoenix Suns traded Chris Paul they was better off including Devin Booker, Damion Lee, and Eric Gordan in the package deal and never bring in Bradley Beal, and this is not about how much awards one may or may not have. It's about a very small open window left in Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Eric Gordan, and Damion Lee's career as NBA players. Devin Booker is one of the reason's why the Phoenix Suns lost the 2021 NBA Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks'.
