Bill Bailey sent me here
do you like this as much as Bill Bailey's playing? I came to this video by the same route, and I prefer it though Bill Bailey's skill is impressive too
With one appearance, Bill Bailey made double-course instruments hot stuff!
@@Loreman72 It's funny because I love Celtic folk, and after watching Bill play I am going to get a mandolin. Hopefully the guitar skills will translate.
Same.
My soul loved this
I must say I like the sound of the cittern, the bouzouki and the mandola the best. It is not that the other instruments are not equally interesting, but I prefer a bright sounding string instrument the most.
That TONE. American bluegrass mandolinist here... Why do I like this sound so much?
thanks
Because it touched your soul, man ! (Get an irish mandolin ;)
You All play beautifully enjoyed it..i have been a guitar player for 30 years, guess what I bought today to learn..lol
I had no idea how much I needed this. Music to make you smile.
Happy music. Really enjoyed and needed these tunes in my soul today
Glad to hear that!
im so jealouuuuus i want iiiiiit (and the skill unless that's sold separately :) )
the skill is extra, but it's a payment in diligence, not money
Thanks for the upload!
It's memorizing to watch and listen to this.
Mesmerising*
Mighty playing!
Thank you for the upload ... sounds great ...good playing .. :)
those are some beautiful instruments.. I especially like the F celtic that starts the session out.
Glad you like them.
Do you know the name of this song? So good!!
Great playing!

Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thats the stuff, Nigel :)
Soooo awesome !
Thanks.
I want to play like this someday
I'm ready for an octave mandolin I can't wait ..haveinig trouble finding one at a real store besides the internet I want to play it in person before I by one
Nice peace
💖
Celtic and indian music spheres have had no collusion throughout the course of history, yet they seem so identical.
I would say that the British influence in India counters that.
Lovely. What is the tune at 16.08? right after the High Part of the Road?
beautiful stuff
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi, whats the tune starting at 4:07 on the Celtic O Mandolin? I've been looking for this eve since hearing (and dancing to) it in a pub in Glasgow. Can't believe I found it here, what a surprise. Thanks!
that's the stuff! do you give lessons?
Nice playing. (Where might one purchase a tailpiece like the one on your big mandolin?)
This is my own design tailpiece. I don't sell tailpieces I'm afraid. Just mandolins.
Looking at buying a flat back mandolin, can't decide! Got to order online as no shops here to try out!
Anyone know the name of the second song? Really nice
So beautiful! So, first song name is "You can call me big al" really? i can't find this song :(
Ian recorded it with his band Kan, it's on the track "Noble" on the album "Sleeper".
What's the second tune called please
Gorgeous. Does anyone know the tune names please? I'm particularly loving the one at 12m and the one at 19m. Anyone?
The New 10 Cent Piece & North Carolina Breakdown.
Great display of intruments ! Does anyone the tune played at 9:30 please ?
Beautiful...sent message to website :)
Octave mandolin, not a mandola. Nice instruments. Tom Kimber gets my vote, about 12 minutes in. American tune, on a mandolin with a ridiculously wide neck... 20 minutes definitely not wasted. Thanks, guys.
nomenclature is different in Europe. I believe sometimes its called a tenor mandola
could you briefly explain the difference?
What is the song at 9:28, love it!
Guys, that was AWESOME !! :D
(If someone knows anything about that song...)
Nice! What is the name of the first tune played?
no idea...
"You can call me big al"
When did the Irish adopt the Italian mandolin and mandola and the Greek bouzouki?
Was a several hundred years ago or fairly recently?
There are several articles on Google about this.
anyone know the names of the tunes? for all the soprano mandolin numbers?
thanks
Wow that celtic F mandolin sounds amazing. Is is also louder than the others? I was thinking about getting a mandola to get enough volume but that mandolin sounds like it was made to keep up in jams. So no price on your website..?
Email me via the website for a price list...
@@Nkforster Why not just put the prices on the website?
Pleeeease someone what is the tune at 9:30? I have to learn it!
how is the Tune at 17:53 called? great work btw!
no idea...
@@Nkforster i think it might be Jig of Slurs
@@lanszer Yep! It is
@@lanszer Yes Jig of Slurs
nice shirt!
The best.
Is there tablature available for the first piece?
Not that I'm aware of.
You can see his fingers and you can hear the notes and rhythm. Isn’t that much faster than reading tab?
Could you explain what an F Mandolin is?
Its a mandolin where the soundholes are in the shape of an F. Like a violin. Mandolins usually have F holes or a round/oval hole.
Just as a point of interest, in the US, F refers to the body style. F style mandolins have a scroll at the top of the body, whereas A style mandolins have the more traditional rounded shape. The F shaped holes appeared in mandolins around 100 years ago and due to the added volume and more balanced high end output they are widely favored over the more traditional round hole mandolins, at least in bluegrass circles.
is a mandola tuned gdae?
no
Usually down a fifth from a mandolin: CGDA
anyone know the first tune at 6:20 name? thanks
I noticed that the tune is almost exactly the same as flaming red hair from the LOTR soundtrack but I wonder if it existed before that as well, because some parts sound a little different.
May you please post names of all the tunes?
I've no idea.
whats the first utne called please!!!!
No idea. Sorry.
At 2:14, I'm looking at the small Celtic O mandolin and didn't know that Forster and Sobell must have been roommates at some point...
I worked for him for many years...
@@Nkforster Both you and Stefan make some fine, fine instruments.
How much....I like the look n sound of this right now...its an f tho I wanted an a with oval hole I believe....hmm...
