I find that swinging outwards on my ground strokes on both wings really helps with having an extended arm on contact which in turn provides that extended window

This is a technique that was taught 50 years ago, and does NOT apply to todays ATP forehand. If you don't have topspin, you won't be a competitive player at any level. Hitting thru three balls is linear. Today, we brush up on the ball. So the racket head is circular, from high to low, back to high. The angle of contact is drastically different today if you want to ever get to an advanced level. This technique will slow your progress.
I definitely think you will get a flatter delivery with this method. But honestly having thought about it for some time I think to have topspin mastery you need incredible timing and dynamic vision. If you’re lacking those things a more upward brush concept will be quite flimsy. I think in the end of the day however one can control the ball best (up to the 4.5/5.0 level) is in fact the best option.
You’ll need both forehands. The three ball technique gives you a low and deep ball that is generally harder to return than ur average top spin. And since most forehands don’t push forward like this, it’s will definelty be a pace changer
A very very helpful, and still very much valid piece of advice. Please do not let all those advisors telling you that this will never allow you to develop a great topspin forehand, because your advice does give a player a much more solid and stable foundation upon which to build other more advanced groundstrokes later on. Don't be limited to just one way of hitting your groundtrokes in tennis.
God loves you I want you to know that and he will never leave you or forsake you and if you ask the Holy Spirit to live in you, God will let it happen and you can be saved if you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead you will be saved bro
Not many ppl paying attention to the left hand but it plays a huge role on being able to stay with the ball longer. Love the way you demo’s the swing - while keeping the left hand out, longer… helps with not opening up too soon and also, with staying more balanced. 😜
Definitely my problem. What it works for me is forcing myself to keep watching the ball during the shot. The end result is likely the hitting the three balls one. If not focusing on watching the ball, my attention is diverted to what to do next or whatever and the ball flying everywhere and without depth in spite of the effort. This said, keeping this focus for long is not easy and also needs practice
Excellent! I like.the suggestion of 8 tennis balls in my coaching but great advice. Players swing too fast, out of control and across their body, rather than slower with better extension and therefore, pop sound
Silly me! Always imagined three balls touching each other when I heard this tip before. Balls spaced out like you demonstrated makes much more sense. Thank you.
I will try this out in my next class. But I tend to hit my shots way too deep, missing the court more often than hitting the net. Would the same tip still work?
Goodness, I saw this randomly and I am def gonna try this with some of the younger kids I teach, ive been trying to think of ways to help them with this, I wven used the T from the service box…this is better!
I watch federers forehand and the strings are pointing down before swing then at the lag point they face towards opponent...he makes it look easy but perfecting the timing is hard 4 me. When i hit forehand i tell myself CATCH and THROW. The catch part is catching the ball with my left hand, coiling, allowing space etc. The throw part i visualise throwing the racket and the point at which my racket would leave my hand and fly away is the point of ball contact. Is this useful or silly? 😮
I'm lucky I don't know English and don't speak it at all. When I hear such sounds, my insides get as dry as a desert. But after a phrase like that «....hitting through three....», it's like calling a sprinkler.

It’s a good point, a slower swing is not the desired effect. Swing at normal speed but visualise a longer extension through contact. You can practice slowly when you start or in the warm up but the aim should be to achieve this at full speed!
Thank you! It’s an interesting topic… I haven’t seen his video, I’ll take a look at some point! I use this analogy to help players to visualise and feel their extension through the ball. I accept that our swing path happens so quickly that it may be physically impossible to extend all the way through the balls that I’ve laid on the floor. But the visual helps players to lengthen their extension, and even if that’s only marginally, it’s a win! Some ask if it limits topspin… not if the three balls are in a diagonal upward path.
@@TheTennisMentor i agree totally, i too realize that the ball doesn’t stay on the strings but only for a moment. But when you take into consideration that the ball is coming to a stop and changing directions, the weight of that seems longer to the mind. And…. The knees hip and shoulder assist in creating enough of the hitting path that is straight for a least two balls. When i watch Roger Fed in slow motion and the Joker i see this. And yeah… the upward movement through the contact creates the spin.
That's because he interpret that upon contact with the ball there should be 3 tennis ball flight path which is actually not so in this instance. Instead this 3 tennis ball flight path was meant to be before contact with the incoming ball after I actually tried it out and it helps.
I already tried this out and it is brilliant

You need to start basic and build from there. Too many beginners think about whipping the ball rather than hitting through.

Excellent and practical!

Thanks really helped
Great tip brother. I was taught this exercise on PTR
Such a great tip Ashley, thanks. If you watch Fed or Rafa or all the great forehands, they have a long hitting zone and extend well out into contact.
Excellent lesson 🙏 appreciate!
This has definitely improved my ground strokes!
Glad to hear!

You make a very good point… looking up can pull you away from your line and stop the extension.
This is at the expense of power and spin.

Thanks Lee! It’s always good to have a visual… keeps the focus on the feel rather than the mechanics which can be tougher to perform under pressure!
Amazing tip!

This is technique I was taught, but they said instead, keep the ball on the racquet as long as possible, cradle the ball, hit through the ball..
👍 That’s another visual cue.

Just one question in this . Doesn't that mean I am stopping my shot or stroke to pass 3 tennis balls
Haha I teach my students this too! 😂
wont it mean that it would be flat and no top spin forehand. Bcos to generate topspin you have to move the racket in the viper motion
A very good question… yes! I’ll have to make a video showing how to do it with spin!
Same principle, just finish racket higher low to high
No. The angle of the racket face and angle of the racket path dictate spin. His arm is rotating on a pendulum so if he swing lo to high regardless
Or train longer ,harder and more passionately.
What tennis club is this? Looks like Leamington

Drop Shot: Because smashing the ball straight into the net is just too mainstream. Let's aim for new lows, people! 🤷♂️🎾
At least 2 tennis balls😅
Can someone explain what he means
Wouldn't it make the swing slow in speed?
It’s a good point, a slower swing is not the desired effect. Swing at normal speed but visualise a longer extension through contact. You can practice slowly when you start or in the warm up but the aim should be to achieve this at full speed!

no

Not very clear explanation, who hit 3 balls at once/ together?? Are you kidding😅

@baneraitan2695 "Hitting through 3 tennis balls" which was the exact message of this video. Hitting through ≠ before contact
@@tenniswithric I watch again and you are right. But the only thing that works for me is before contact instead of hitting through upon contact
