What a lovely, unpretentious man. It's clear that his kids keep him grounded ("They find my movies boring") - and he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously. Another nice Canadian boy.

I have watched this movie several times, now - and am quite impressed by the way such a sensitive issue was presented. Quite unique for Hallmark - and Christopher Russell's deft story-telling skills really delivered the juxtaposition of both the vulnerable loneliness - and strength - of the character he portrayed. We usually see him playing a taciturn character - who pretty much follows the cultural practises of my 1st Nations ancestors in the "speak less, say more" department. So when he is on the rooftop and sees the colours of a sunset for the 1st time - you know two things . . . that his character has had to exercise great control over his emotions and behaviour for most of his life - and how overwhelming it is that he can see what everyone else can see, for the first time.
I have a friend or two who wears these glasses - and am aware of their first-time reactions to the sight of what most of us take for granted. And Christopher captured these moments so beautifully. Really, really well done. I think that that particular moment - of all the moments in the movie - touched me most profoundly. That - and the small scene near the end, when Ryan drapes his coat over Michelle's shoulders to keep her warm. She brought colour into his life, and supported him emotionally and psychologically while he adjusted - and he was protecting her from the elements. Aside from the expected "romance" of the movie - these two scenes - with hardly any dialogue at all - really portrayed the connection between the two.
This has been my favourite of all the Christmas movies, this year. Other than the classic (Alistair Sim) version of "Scrooge: A Christmas Carol" . . . in B&W.
