Pittsburgh is probably America's best-kept secret. What a place! I was there for the first time several months ago, and it blew me away (figuratively, and almost literally). The charm of the place is unbelievable. It is a great blend of the historic and modern. Really great bars and restaurants. Surprisingly hilly, which gives it a really interesting feel. Lots of great old buildings that have been restored and repurposed. There's a really hip vibe to it, too - due to the number of young people. And everyone except the TSA were super friendly. (The TSA folks, though, were about the rudest most asinine bunch of people I had ever met - but they were at the end of the trip). From the time I arrived in Pittsburgh to my return to the airport, though, everyone was wonderfully hospitable. They are extremely proud of their city, and it shows everywhere. I think that the city slogan should be, "Pittsburgh - Who knew?"
For the people asking if the town is so empty...I'm going to assume that this was filmed on a weekend. The city is empty on weekend mornings. If you come during a weekday, it's not like this. And yes, the city is very safe. Born and raised and still live here. I worked downtown in my 20s and never once had a problem with anyone bothering me. I took the bus to and from work and never had a problem. And I was a single girl going about my business. I love Pittsburgh :)
+Robin L I think this was a Sunday or maybe even Christmas Day or New Years Day. This is a very vibrant downtown...kind of weird to see it so empty. But, then again, so much easier to film. I love my city...I miss it everyday but go back often.
My grandfather was one if the architects for a lot of the buildings in down town,my father took over and has also done a lot of work for the city in the past... Pretty cool.
Pittsburgh is a very beautiful and safe city. I used to live there for 18 months. I studied at the English language institute of the university of pittsburgh. I lived in north oakland area which is just few minutes from the university. There are many other good places: Green tree, Brookline, MT Washington .....etc. Good luck
The Movie "Flashdance" was shot in Pittsburg back in the day. It really depicts what it is and what its was like there then. It's also a really good movie.
Many delightful things about Pittsburgh. While others like Detroit and St. Louis put new Light Rail on city streets Pittsburgh wisely moved theirs into subway tunnels underneath the city. There are seven convenient stations serving Downtown, stadiums and theater district before the tracks turn south and travel to suburbs via a tunnel right through a mountain!
To those of you who wonder why it's so empty...really? Do you honestly think that a big downtown, with so many skyscrapers, is really a ghost town? I know Pittsburgh! Downtown is a busy place...many people on the streets and a horrendous rush hour. It's so obviously that this was a Sunday or a holiday. I think that the intent was to concentrate on Pittsburgh w/o the congestion or hustle and bustle. As a friend of mine, who visited from out of town said recently, "Pittsburgh is so robust!" BTW, ever see Wall Street on a Sunday...dead as a door nail!!!!!
+Paolo Donzella the entertainment districts are mostly not downtown and they are always congested. diring work hours dontown is crowded plus most people who go downtown take the bus because parking is super expensive there.
Great video! Love to see my home through the eyes of a tourist! As a local I feel obliged to let you know that Primanti Brother's is not very good, people just pretend it is.
Great job! What has a lot of the Burgh folks ticked off is, When Kraft merged with Heinz. That fantastic Heinz Spicy Brown Mustard that we all loved, they slapped the same label on a Kraft product and it SUCKS!!

What I especially love about this video aside from the wonderful imagery is the lack of dialogue. The pictures speak for themselves. Great work!

You need commentary telling people what they are looking at and where it is located.
