  • What modifications will void the warranty or cause a warranty denial claim on your 2022 Subaru WRX or 2023 Subaru WRX? In this video I discuss the Cobb Accessport (Cobb AP) for the 2022 Subaru WRX, the new JB4 Tuner for your WRX, and other modifications. So if you have a 2022 WRX or a 2023 WRX, and are considering tuning your VB WRX, watch this first!

    I just picked up my VB. I owned a 2020 VA and loved it, but the VB is a superior car in every way. Looks are subjective but I don’t mind the cladding. To me since I live in the Midwest with all of the weather variants the cladding is purposeful.

      someone wrecked my base model 2017 WRX and my insurance paid for my new 2022 Limited.. I can’t agree more. Kinda unfair bc I jumped up in trim levels, but it’s an upgrade in every way.
      I also think this gen will go down as one of the shiniest turds in the WRX lineup.

    You mentioned warranty denial. But like you said if I put a Cobb AP on my car and the hood clasp malfunctions, the warranty still covers that clasp. Just wish you talked about what part of the warranty is effected by the "upgrade."
    PS: you should get a VB. That FA24 is fantastic and the shifts are so much better than the VA.

    I have my vb, everything has been okay so far, except that you cannot lock the vehicle with it running with the keys outside. Performance wise, It's going to stay stock. Short version, I make enough money to play with it but 8-10 k for a power train replacement, and without a reputable company doing Performace motor and transmission pre-builds I'll just sit and wait. Keep an eye out though, there have been some issues with excessive gasket liner in the oil system/oil pick-up.

    I did put an axle-back exhaust on my '22- it HAD to be done and I really don't think it will be a problem with an unrelated warranty claim someday. Other than that I think I'll just make subtle improvements to the car and wait till the warranty is over - then maybe I'll try a COBB tuner once enough time has gone by for me to be reasonably sure it's safe on these new VB cars.

    It's still not "voiding your warranty". That's terrible language. You can be denied 3 different otherwise covered jobs if they can reasonably prove the mod caused the damage, but say later a strut breaks... if you haven't messed with the suspension or wheels then they will have to replace the broken strut under warranty. The warranty itself is never voided. On the JB4 topic I'd avoid those, last I checked they don't even monitor the knock sensors. That's a dangerous place to operate with engine tuning blind to real time sensor data.

  • @SweatyToupee

    It’s nuance

  • @MrGsxrme
    @MrGsxrme Před rokem

    I don't support or like piggy back ECUs but the JB4 doesn't flash or tag the factory ECU. The factory ECU honestly doesn't know anything and the JB4 tricks it. So before making a video concerning some matters I would get them right first. Honestly I wish MoTec would fix their inventory issue and make an ECU swap for the 2022+. Cobb reflash is the next best thing but we don't have flexfuel A and B tables yet, Cobb may never give us these tables so flexfuel options maybe only for MoTec or JB4. Don't run flexfuel without a damn sensor guys! Tuners are doing it! They give you multiple maps hoping you mix it right and the endgame will cost you an engine if you make an error.
    And about Warranty, well it depends on the owner of the dealership franchise. Large dealership corporate brands will void warranty on any modification but some small family owned locations tend to be more forgiving. I would honestly build a relationship with your dealership of choice before upgrades. I for one work for 130+ locations from Kia to Maserati in multiple states, so from my direct experience I would take my advice.

      Dude, have you ever had a WRX? Anything aftermarket that modifies the OEM oiling system voids your warranty or any other system on your car. Common sense. I asked multiple services managers and SOA. Cat back and anything that doesn't require tune are the only things that will keep your warranty valid. I've had denied claims. Subaru reserves the right to deny any claim if they see fit. They have deeper pockets than you. You won't win. Trust me. I've been the canary in the coal mine for my Subaru group on my VA.
