A lot of people say that they wish this person or that MC could have had these beats to rap over and Group Home didn't do Premiers beats justice are wrong. I think that's part of the beauty. The lyrics were raw, rugged, simple and pure. They really let you feel what those who made up the inner cities of the 90's felt. It was a statement to more than just music. The average "ghetto youth" didn't speak and write as well as Nas or Jay Z. Premo gave them the ultimate backdrop to express those thoughts and feelings of what we all wanted to hear, that pain & the struggles they went through. Premier was the canvas and they were the brush strokes, together they painted the picture of East Coast Projects of the 90's. Classic!

I've been wondering this. The instrumental version exists, it appeared in a mix back in '96 (DJ Dummy: Easy Mo Bee vs. DJ Premier) but must be from a promo/TP not listed on discogs. The one in this link is I believe, a remake (a subtle difference is the piano not fading in in the intro). Great job though, I'm assuming it was chopped from elements of the vocal cut. I think there's just enough free bars to do it... but it's painstaking work for sure
