    Yes please video putting the engine back together. Your video is the most detailed head gasket I've encountered 👍⭐in diagnostic, prepping, intricate work, and I appreciate that sir. I've been learning automotive for five years now , and still consider myself a beginner Diy. Thank you.

    Great video. Only thing that you overlooked mentioning is checking the condition and keeping the push rods etc in order on old non overhead cam engines. Fluids go everywhere and a bit of air blasted down the threaded holes may revel there is still some fluid at the bottom which of course will not compress and can also cause a false reading. It is also a good idea to use the old bolts/nuts to clean the threads and ensure there is no "grabbing" which could cause false torque readings once things have been cleaned out.

    If you're bringing a head in for resurfacing, magnaflux if iron heads, and dye testing for aluminum crack check before surfacing can save you some money.
    IIRC, you can get the dye testing kits for home use which are pretty cheap to save you the trip and expense as well.

    Forgive me if this is a ridiculous question:
    Since you already have the straight edge piece of metal and know where the tiny gaps are, could you attach a piece of 2000-3000 grit sandpaper to it and gently wet sand those surfaces to perfection?

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  Před 11 měsíci +4

      those are low spots, you'll have to sand down the entire surface to bring them true to just bellow the low spots.

    • @eliezerramosjr1017
      @eliezerramosjr1017 Před 11 měsíci +1

      That’s where machining comes into play. If there’s low spot that is warpage again like he said you will always have a very lil warpage but if it’s to a point that you need or desire to do wet sanding (btw wet sanding is done on auto body to clear away blemishes or imperfections) then it’s machine shop time or in cases like this new used, or brand new head. Good luck 👍🏾

    • @briansierzega
      @briansierzega Před 11 měsíci

      @@myRatchets Right…that’s what I meant. To sand the entire surface to meet up to the gaps to make true.
      I actually just mistakenly jumped down the rabbit hole on CZcams showing people using this method …lol

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  Před 11 měsíci +2

      It's doable but you have to find a large true surface put sand paper on it, than manually pickup the head and slide it over that surface again and again until you get true. It's difficult both physically and also finding a large enough completely flat surface. It would take way too long to do it with the straight edge and sand paper around it, it may not even be doable since you would sand down more in some areas than others.

    I have a 1990 Toyota 3SFE 4 cylinder in a Camry. Had a bad headgasket. The shop had to take so much material off the head to make it flat that they recommended a shim kit that goes between the block and headgasket. Have you ever used a shim on an engine? I know it’s not ideal but money is tight.
