    what if you've had carpel tunnel release and are having symptoms again but primary symptom is thenar spasms?

    What should of been explained is when the nerve is severely damaged that's when muscle atrophy sets in. So in this case the compression must be released of the Median Nerve and then the nerves regenerate at 1mm a day so being close to the hand it would reach in less then 6 months and the muscle can be built again. If the Muscle has had no nerve supply after 18-24 months then it can not be brought back but if you have muscle wasting it's best to have it attended to asap. proximal Nerve injuries are the worst so the higher up they are the longer the nerve has to regenerate that's why Nerve transfers are offered so the motor end plates can be kept alive.

    In Aug 2000, after my second bout with Acute lymphocytic Leukemia, Docs figured I needed a bone marrow transplant. As soon as that foreign substance hit my veins, my organs startd a race to see which one could shut down the fastest! I musta looked thirsty too b/c they started pouring bags & bags of fluids into every orifice they could find and if there wasn't one already, they'd make one. Somehow amid this mass mayhem, I developed a blood clot somewhere on the right side of my body...cont

    When I was a child-45 years ago I accidentally pushed my hand through a glass door, it broke and sliced my wrist. My thumb muscle never grew(atrophied) and my 1st finger is smaller than the other hand and there is permanent numbness where the median nerve I assume would be.-half of my hand. Its probably to late but I would give anything for it to be made somewhat normal again. Your opinion. Thanks.

    My left thumb has been twitching like crazy, for about 2 months. It really goes off if I do something a little more strenuous. No strength loss.
    Does the non dominant hand typically have less muscle mass than the dominant?

      Not entirely sure tbh, I still have regular inflammatory problems with my thumbs, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. I do stretches and exercises daily to try and keep myself limber to help. Might be RA but docs haven't given me a straight answer. Either way my tendons are pretty sensitive and get problems easily it seems.

      @gra_nn Před 3 lety

      @@QT-JME Do you reckon its normal to have assymetrical thenars? I keep looking at my hands and my right hand seems to have some minimal differences, like a few dents here and there. And do you feel a pulse in the muscle between your thumb and index muscle? I can see it pulsating, not noticeable unless i ultimately focus on it. Just wondering if those are normal or not.
      I hope you're doing well with your own case

      @@gra_nn That could just be normal human variance honestly, we're rarely symmetrical. Does the pulsing hurt? Otherwise it could just be your blood pumping. And thank you! It can be hard to figure out what's normal and what's not.

      Hi doc I have bruise before on hand and it already fades away but it's been months and still painful
      Is it possible that the injury lead to carpal tunnel syndrome? Or it maybe because the bruise become hematoma?
      Thank you

  • @handarmdoc
    @handarmdoc  Před 11 lety +2

    You can build up any healthy muscle fibers around the atrophied ones, but once the muscle's nerve supply is gone, it won't come back on its own.

      @@senseisaitama8684 bruh lmfao i went to my doctor a couple days after that comment and I actually dont have it. I was having wrist pain due to learning guitar and it was so bad that i was going crazy and self diagnosed. I have a history of playing computer games with mouse and keyboard leading to wrist pain and also guitar playing and heavy weightlifting, all of which i think i use my wrist more than someone else my age. Even so, I think if you are a young person and you have this problem it has less to do with lifestyle things like I mentioned and more to do with genetic predisposition.
