  • Can you fly with a Onewheel Pint. In todays video Im going to find out. I went through all of the major airlines to determine if there are any that will let me take the pint on a plane. I also wanted to find a nice bag for the pint (and maybe not a $200 one...).
    The best bag I could find (under $30)

    Great video! I've flown with my Onewheel Plus a number of times... Even to Hawaii. I've never been denied but I'm always nervous that I'll get stranded somewhere and have to leave my board in a strange location. For that reason, I don't fly with my Onewheels anymore.

      So... what is the precedence for not being able to fly with the 300Amp XR battery? Is it that li-on batteries in that capacity range have spontaneously combusted on planes? (due to, I assume, the cabin pressure or something) It seems ludicrous to me that I would have to spend hundreds of dollars to Fedex the battery to Maui (or pay the $40/hr they charge to rent XR's in Kihei) I'll take the board all up and down the west coast (San Diego to Vancouver) but sometimes I just don't want to drive everywhere all the time (one of the reasons I own an XR in the first place!) I could see a future where you could bring your board and rent just the battery cheaply at your destination. What do you guys think?

      You can never check litiumion batteries on planes. There's no way to put the fire pit if they catch. A cargo plane went down in the middle east because of this. I can't remember if it was UPS or FedEx. All lithium ion batteries have to go as carry on. Smart luggage and away luggage had to make their batteries removable for this reason.

      @@gardenalr ainda não, pela american air lines aparentemente podem deixar somente o pint, demais one wheels tem baterias mais fortes e nao sao autorizados, porem mesmo assim ainda ha riscos

    Seems like you should be able to mail it to yourself if your not allowed to bring it on the airplane.

      @JohnDDyer  Před 3 lety

      You can but technically it’s considered hazardous due to the size of the battery so last I checked you have to take it to an authorized shipping place (which is what I did in my skateboard videos with my nephew going to NYC and Chicago).

    The battery is an nmc battery on the pint not lithium ion the plus battery is an lithium iron

      I mean NMC is still a *Lithium*- Nickel Manganese Cobalt oxide battery so it still is a lithium "ion" battery. Tons safer that a LiPo ofc but technically still a Lithium Ion battery so rip air travel

      yea I used to do that all the time with my plus but I didnt want to remove the battery on the brand new pint!

    You do know the cold does kill the battery usage...

  • @dipgas5155

    Hold up! This is not a basic LI battery. You must be specific. Having manual on person could be deciding factor...then you can PROVE its NOT a LI..
    I would have been able to take it with manual.
    Not being able to disconnect battery is a huge fail. Being able to swap batteries would be great.
    I ended up completely disassembling my brand new pint(even rail, everything) only to be stalled by the 5 point star drive screws. (🖕🏽you FM! ) couldnt get inside to unplug battery.. had to send it home...5 hour delay, because i packed manual in luggage....

    • @JohnDDyer
      @JohnDDyer  Před 4 lety

      Man that sucks. Yea I never tried to disassemble mine... the plus was not to bad but still nothing like my boosted board, way easier. I don’t think future motion has any plans for a swappable battery either from they way they talk in interviews..🤷‍♂️

    Has anyone tried bringing this on an airline that doesn’t accept self balancing boards - such as Jet Blue - and seen what happens? As TSA is the organization that checks you, Jet Blue would never check you if it’s carried on.
    I’ve travelled a ton and I have never ever had the airline check me. Only customs, TSA, etc. If TSA is cool with it, I don’t think I have any reason to believe Jet Blue would catch it.
    The point I’m making here is not that you should break rules, only that 1) you can if TSA is the only agency that checks you, and 2) other airliners don’t care and 3) you aren’t doing anything immoral as you aren’t hurting anyone and the one wheel battery is quality and won’t explode
    I bet you can bring it all across the US on any airline and you would never have any issues. Are there international rules about bribing batteries larger than a certain size? Like international TSA-like agencies?

    • @JohnDDyer
      @JohnDDyer  Před 4 lety

      I generally agree with you it’s a tricky balance pun intended lol. The TSA guys will enforce airline rules, atleast from what I have seen when they have taken other ppls onewheels. The whole thing is risky unfortunately...
