    The original Necromunda starter box from the 90s actually got you started. I really want to get back in with a box but I don’t want to deal with the compromises of playing with either incomplete rules, terrible terrain or a mediocre gang.

      @@miniaturesrundown I agree with the above comment. I love the way you guys are presenting the information but the audio dipping is just rough. Have you considered moving the microphones to be positioned in between each other? It may allow you to avoid the issue without having to change your habits.

    Their are community PDF's out there that compile ALL the rules for those of you wanting to know. You should still buy the books to support the game and get the fluff but the community PDF is by far the easiest way to play as it's actually organized unlike the GW books.

    Great vid. I recently got into necromunda (my first games workshop game) and it is almost impenetrable for new players. I ended up buying Hive War starter set (delaque and Escher), all the other gangs (Goliath, ironhead prospectors, Cawdor, orlok, van Saar, corpse grinder cult, enforcers), the rule book and all the house books and now I’m slowly making my way through building and painting it all (something else I’m new to). I’ve not even played a game yet and don’t know anyone who does! 😂

      lol we are in the same boat mate, I have all the standers gang for Necromunda except Ash waste nomads, corpse grinders, and slave ogryn (on my list to buy) I even have a chaos cult, genestealer cult and an outland gang, and non of my mates play Necromunda, except one but he moved to another country lol
      I played the original Necromunda 1st necromunda box set releases in 1995, so it was more nostalgia that brought me back, I have played a few games on underhive wars , but that was like over 2 years ago, and the rules have changed a little since then go figure,

    Great video that comprehensively breaks down Necromunda really well.
    I played the original back in the 90s and it has to this day been the most fun I've ever had with a GW game.
    When the new game came out, I was put off by the price and by the fact that the rules were basically broken and book after book built on all of the problems the rules had.
    I almost started when I found an online rules compilation, but then lost interest.
    Now there finally seems to be an actual rulebook so maybe I'll get into it.
    The fact that the rules have seemed to change at least three times in six years doesn't bode well.
    Boxed sets like Ash Wastes that have $100 worth of content for $300 for what sounds like an unplayable environmental damage simulator also don't bode well.
    We'll see, but either way, your series of videos has sparked my interest harder than it's possibly ever been.

    • @miniaturesrundown
      @miniaturesrundown  Před rokem

      The one nice thing about the rules is that, unlike GW's other games, they haven't actually changed much - the core rules from 2017 are still all completely the same with only a minor change regarding the order of bottle tests at the end of a round. There's just been a lot of rules ADDED, which the newer Ash Wastes book collects into one place.

    You can get the Necromunda Rulebook from GW Digital for US$40, but it is an EPUB3 file, not PDF. You can't buy the Ash Wastes rulebook. If you actually want to use vehicles, the AW only has rules for them not any specific stats. You need The Book of Outlands also, because it has stats for the generic vehicles, and rules to roll your own. If you're vehicle curious, you should be able to use just the base rulebook and Book of Outlands.
    There are so many flingin' flangin' books, I had to create a Master Table of Contents as to which rules and which characters are in which books. I do own *all* the books in ebook form though.
    I've still got 3 sets of terrain from the OG Necromunda, plus the expansion terrain set. The only problem is that due to the embiggening of models a lot of them don't fit, or just barely fit underneath the upper levels.

    I just dug out my Necromunda stuff after about five years of not looking at anything. Turns out I have the older hardback rulebook and Gangs of the Underhive, but instead of those I should pick up the new 2023 core rulebook and my specific gang’s “House of….” book instead is what I’m hearing from various sources. And if I want it play outside Necromunda I’d need Book of the Outlands since vehicles sound like at some point they could be pretty cool. Needless to say, the sheer amount of “really you should get these books to play” is very discouraging.

  • @Keithslawinski
    @Keithslawinski Před 6 měsíci

    Its really upsetting that there is no way to make your own basic gang via the core rulebook. I loved Inquisitor where the core book came with the rules, and ALL the equipment, special skills, and character archetypes required to field a gang of players. What conceptually drew me to Necormunda was kitbashing my own rag tag gang, with its own lore and backstory, and it is really frustrating CIG went the way of ALL their other games by forcing codexes and prebuilt factions.
    As an old timer I miss the older games where it was on you to make your characters and actually be creative with your modeling. Printing should have been a total renaissance for kitbashing, and instead it feels like GW would rater neuter creativity at every turn to maximize sales.

    • @miniaturesrundown
      @miniaturesrundown  Před 6 měsíci

      It is definitely more "funneled" than it used to be - but, the soul of that level of creativity does live on in the Venator and Outcast gangs. Venators especially allows you to go full-out in the "do whatever you want" realm.
