    Thank you all so much for the support in the comment section. I am very blessed to have such a kind audience. I do want to make it clear that I won't be abandoning tree work entirely. I'll still have tree work content to share and the thumbnails will still have the good old black and white letters you'll recognize 😅 There just might be an excavator video or two to help fill in the gaps.

    Story time: Had a customer several years back- excavator company charged with removing trees and old lake house to prep for new construction. Part of our job was to cut the trees into pieces that the track hoe could load into a roll off. One tree was on a cliff face behind the house to be removed. The contractor gave me permission to drop the tree on the house, which I was excited to do. It was probably 36” or so. I dropped that sucker on the house and plowed a trough down the middle of the structure. High-fives were had by all… until I had to go in there and cut it into pieces. There was so much rebar and broken glass and twisted metal and rusty nails that I swore I wouldn’t do it again. I could’ve landed in the hospital for that stunt.
    Couple years later we had a “drop it on the house- I’m tearing it down anyway” type of thing. I decided not to. It was a 90’ plus codom which I threaded perfectly with soon-to-be-demolished house on the outside, privet and underbrush between the legs, and power line on the other side. No one ever gets video of my trickier fells. Only time I MIGHT consider dropping on a structure is if I don’t have to go in to cut it up, and if no one is watching.

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 11 měsíci

      I know what you mean. I cringe everytime I see someone cut a house in half with a tree. It's like taking a regular tree job and turning it into a storm damage job. Sound like fun, but always bit you in the end. Thanks for sharing your story!

The one that hooks the harness to my saddle has a break strength of 4 kn, which is more than I prefer, but it's still not crazy high.

    Whenever I’m chipping into a container I’ll open the door and position the chipper to chip through the door. Couple sheets of plywood over the top of the opposite end to stop the chips from flying out and you can get it pretty well filled up.

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 11 měsíci

      That's an excellent thought! I think I'll still try that on bigger jobs where I can get things set up like that. There just wasn't enough room to get the chipper behind the container on this one. It was a real challenge to eve get the chipper in there beside it without the truck getting stuck on the wet grass that covered the driveway 🙄

When I started finding my own way I ended up working for an excavation contractor I absolutely love running equipment but it took me away from my kids. I’m kinda in a similar situation. I had a mobile welding service for a while then accidentally started the tree service. I still like welding though. It’s way harder to run the welding business aspect of things though. Tree businesses seem way easier to run. At least around here.

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 11 měsíci

      Tree businesses are easy start ups for sure. There isn't much red tape and most of the time you don't have to worry about permits and such. Some big municipalities are a little different. The hard part about tree business are keeping people safe and productive on a level that productive and has minimal risk involved. Its certainly possible, but being competitive and safe seems to be quite the challenge around here.

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries Před 11 měsíci

      @@zaccheus yes. I can see that being a problem depending on where your at. Some areas probably have too many treee services already. Some of which are doing jobs for next to nothing. One of those guys in my area just recently put a tree through a house that wasn’t supposed to be demolished. I work alone so production isn’t my biggest worry. I just try to be safe and focus on customer service. That’s what got me into trees to begin with. The lack of customer service by a couple of the other tree services. I hope excavating works out for ya, you did teach me a bunch about tree climbing just by posting your work on here. I saw you climb a super dead tree in someone’s backyard and that gave me the confidence to climb my neighbors super dead tree. Although I was tied in to another kinda next to it. My biggest advice I could give you as someone who is also doing two seemingly unrealated businesses is, when you purchase new equipment for one try to get something you can use for both. For example instead of a bucket truck with chip box, I Just bought a haulotte lift for the trees but also for welding on grain bins. I shoot chips into a dump trailer but also use it for hauling skid steers, bigger fabrications, sticks of steel, and scrap metal. That mini excavator you got would be a huge asset for tree work and for excavating. Heck yeah.

Go fast however, to prevent a barber chair like your second cut. It's an unpredictable cut so make sure you have no avoidables around and you are in a safe working position. • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 5 měsíci

      I explained why the wood wanted to separate like that. Grain structure in the root flare is different than the straight grain of the trunk wood. It reacts to compressive forces differently, which is why it wanted to delaminate. Use of multiple wedges helps alleviate the load on each wedge. So appropriate course of action was to add more wedged to the cut as I did. I'm not sure I see the point of this comment.
