It missed most of the battles that it tried to reach like Midway, and was ultimately defeated thanks to superior air power and to be fair rather poor AA. As i said it's the right ship for the wrong war because had it been WW1, the Yamato would've been an unkillable beast, a true terror of the seas. The Yamato suffered the fate all battleships suffered it just happened to them a lot quicker and that's being outclassed by Air craft carriers.

Scharnhorst and gneisenau weren't very good as "battleships" their armour wasn't anything special and their 11inch Guns were outclassed by almost every other countries capital ships. They were very good as commerce raiders though
