Bethesda is so committed to the space theme for Starfield that they hired an actual alien named Inon Zur to compose the music. Absolutely astounding. 👍
Oh my god lol
It also sounds kinda similar to some of Destiny’s music
You win! o7
I’ve saw this comment copy and pasted everywhere
Lol
I'm happy Inon Zur is composing music for Starfield.
The ambience of Fallout 4 was great, and the same with Jeremy Soule's compositions in Skyrim.
The soundtrack sets the whole mood and feel of a game in a way that can make you lose yourself in the world on the screen in front of you.
Agreed, Inon is great. I'm still ticked that Bethesda turned their back on Soule for TES 6 but Inon did a great job in Fallout and a pretty decent job in TES Blades and it sounds like he's doing a phenomenal job in Starfield.
@@jakobfel2 Its probably like 95% chance that Zur will also be doing TES6 music.
@@murranji3705 It is, yes, but that bothers me. I like Inon a lot, he is a stellar composer. However, Soule's music is integral to the TES series since Morrowind. The fact that BGS is snubbing him because of unproven allegations absolutely angers me.
He also did New Vegas.
I don't think they turned their back on Soule yet.
At 5:00, it sounds like Mark practically confirms that we can explore space itself and not just the planets within Starfield. So hypeeeee!
Oh yeah you're right dude. Matty I'm so excited for Starfield lol

As soon as I heard that bit I thought the same thing and thought about the creators like you noticing that
Hell yes🥹
When you’re as excited to get your hands on the OST as much as the actual *game*!
SO TRUE!
I was for Ghost of Tsushima, but for that game, by that point, we already had some gameplay that led us to have an idea of the game, unlike this game.
Yee
I get goosebumps every time the Starfield logo appears at the end of the videos and the music swells and crescendos.
@@Playcool18 Bethesda NEVER showed gameplay earlier than 6 months before the games launch, i dont know why everyone expects them to do so this time
Its such a joy listening people who are so passionate about their work
and knowledgeable in my opinion. I'm a seasoned orchestral musician but still learned some stuff here. I sometimes witness people talking passionately in interviews but the knowledge is way behind. Not trying to be mean; just an observation
@dctrbrass Not always reflective of someone's technical knowledge, just their sonic vocabulary; the songs still have the technical skill, the person in question may not know the proper terminology... I know those that understand the technical side though probably are unable to play, that's the opposite; I think the same thing though
Bring it home Bethesda and Todd Howard! Super excited for Starfield!
Take me Home, Starry Road, to the Place, I belong... :D

@@maxkelting3658 Yikes, I wouldn’t pre order. Anything ever. This industry is fucked and entirely unregulated. They can outright lie or the game could be unplayable and they just take the money and run.
@@Gbag34 I think Todd Howard deserves the benefit of the doubt considering every game he created and directed has been a masterpiece so far.
@@Christiano97150 uhhhh I can’t tell if that’s a joke or not lol.
The main theme reminds me of early James Horner, "Battle Beyond the Stars" in particular. It's very rare a composer can come up with a main theme that works as an adventurous anthem, but also in quiet reflective moments, too. Most scores have separate themes for different things, so finding one where the main theme is appropriate in different situations is always a treat.
Amateurs innovate, professionals steal (in a good way:)
The melodic hook is also very reminiscent of the Osiris theme from Halo 5.
I also got a slight Outer Worlds feel in the few note melody and how it was mixed with strings.
Give me 5 Synths & 2 Drum Machines & i could do better.
@@philphilly4777 A good proposition, but on reflection, I'm not ready for a space opera set to a noisy techno mixtape with 808 drums.
great game music can bring you to tears man. bethesda has the x-factor when it comes to tying music in with exploration. can not wait for this game!!

@@SexyFace Look guys we got a jester
I agree. The music while exploring in almost any Bethesda title is so impactful, draws me right in and I love it!
Kind of wish it was Jeremy Soule
who was making it, I would absolutely LOVE to see what he would come up with when it comes to space themed music.
They also have the x-factor for game breaking bugs that they never patch.
I'll never forget how impactful Inon Zur's work on Dragon Age Origins felt to me when I first heard it, the soundtrack was this amazing combination of war and darkness, but with a bit of blissfulness and peace, he has a way to make the soundtrack of a game feel alive, and I know Starfield won't be any different, I can't wait to play this game and stare into the horizon enjoying the sound design!
Dragon Age Origins soundtrack is the best Inon Zur work so far. What he accomplished there was incredible. Probably will never be surpassed. Not only that but DA:O was a masterpiece. Last great RPG I've played. A game from 2009... Years pass but nothing comes close to that game.
Never winter nights too, ir was that Jeremy Soule?
This style of marketing for Starfield is perfect, it's a new IP from Bethesda so as to not try and push this game as the same as Elder Scrolls/ Fallout they present aspects of the game through the tone they are trying to evoke for the game. Exploration, journey, the endless stars to explore, they are giving it it's own identity. While surprisingly, they keep referencing Oblivion the most which might be hints as to how the game might take inspiration from the gameplay elements, Like episode 2 when discussing the new dialogue system.
An evolved Oblivion set in space, mechanics and systems more complex than Skyrim and Fallout 4 offered, and a whole new tone and atmosphere, which is something Bethesda excels at creating on top of world design, is exactly what I want to see, hear and play. I'm ready for this game.
Perfect comment.
I might just be dumb but I was really confused by Oblivions leveling system, like sure Skyrims perk trees are simple and commonplace in RPGs, but you know exactly what it is you're getting because it'll tell you like "10% One Handed Damage, Sneaking doesn't set off pressure players, lock picks don't break, add 2 enchantments, etc" while Oblivion a stat gets leveled and then it's like, it's leveled but what did that actually do? I also didn't like having to sleep to level up because then you have to stop exploring to go find a bed, which sure is a small inconvenience but still kind of annoying.
But I guess it's all personal preference I prefer simplicity but don't mind complexity if it's done in a way like The Witcher 3 for example.
@Selo no man’s sky at release or now? Because there is some fantastic exploration now.
I’d agree if they were doing this marketing last year or before. The gaming industry has an awful habit of overhyping with buzz words and fake cgi trailers long before launch and the final product is there. With Starfield releasing this year, it does add a level of genuine quality that they know what the final product or near final product is and are only choosing to market it now.
Also just saying there isn’t a good answer here. Games can show off early gameplay but that’s not super indicative of the release state. They can show off late gameplay, but unless its an open beta that’s really controlled and allows them to spin the game’s state as they want (i.e. Cyberpunk 2077). Honestly I think its best to go into your favorite games just blind (or as blind as possible since marketing and social media makes that so hard). Its on game pass so very little barrier to try when it drops. At the very least there will be a ton of impressions day one
@@Werewolf914 I hope so badly that they go for Oblivion or older when it comes to RPG mechanics. Skyrim and Fallout 4’s perk systems and other mechanics really dumbed down and ruined the experience these titles are known for.
Using your example with Skyrim’s perks. The main problem is that skills and perks don’t exist anymore. In both Skyrim and even more so Fallout 4 skills are gone and perks do everything. The issue with this is that intermingling systems are what makes an RPG more in depth and offers better balance and more player choice. In older games, your skill determined general proficiency with certain things. Having level 80/100 short blade meant you chose to level up that skill and you would do more damage and be more accurate as a result. You didn’t need to use perk points or level up to achieve this. You simply practiced a skill, and became better at it. Then the perks and abilities would all be fun, optional, powerful things like beheading enemies or specific combat techniques. In Skyrim if you have 100/100 one handed, if you have zero perks in the one handed tree, you functionally are level 1 one handed. This breaks down and fails when you realize that the games difficulty functions by using character level. Which means a bandit at level 40 may turn into a bandit highwayman or bandit marauder with more health and doing more damage. The problem here lies with the fact that if you choose not to take the perks that increase damage output or protection, you are dumping perks down the drain and levelling up, but not getting stronger. You can be a master blacksmith, at 100/100, and have no damn idea how to smith even basic steel. It’s all locked behind perks and the numbers are for show. By definition someone who obtains level 100 in smithing, is a master black smith. It shouldn’t be that you need to dump handfuls of perk points for the bare minimum. Same goes for all the other perks. Yes, some of the abilities (usually the far later ones) make good perks. However, the entire first half of almost every tree is just lame stat boosts like 20% more damage. Things that should be tied directly to the skills themselves and your experience, never a perk point. Because if you level up 20 times and put points into speech or alchemy or enchanting, you gain zero combat progress despite levelling those skills up and partaking in combat. Meanwhile your enemies grow stronger because the game doesn’t differentiate between alchemy levels and combat levels or where your perks are put.
This is just Skyrim’s perk trees, but that doesn’t even cover the entire loss all together of birth signs and classes. Or the overall loss of entire skills like mysticism. Or the gutting of the magic system entirely. Or speech basically being an entire waste because you never have the opportunity in the entire game to actually use it to solve problems. It’s just a shame how dumbed down the game is and I suggest maybe giving Oblivion another shot because it is far superior, and even Morrowind is superior to Oblivion. Skyrim has a ton of issues and I hope they don’t continue this dumbing down trend. It’s ruining their games.

Inon Zur was the right choice for Starfield. I hope and pray that Jeremy Soule will be involved in TES6. The series wouldn't be the same without him.
Hey man, I hear you, I was extremely sad to see Soule get wrapped up in a controversy. Though and I know it's not quite the same, you should go listen to Inon Zur's Dragon Age: Origins OST, spoiler alert: **It's. fucking. Amazing.** IMHO, one of the greatest Fantasy RPG OSTs ever made. Full stop.
@@grndmst9 It's good, but doesn't come even close to Soule's OSTs in High Fantasy settings. Tundra or Far Horizons in Skyrim can single-handedly dethrone any Zur OSTs.
@@arkamukherjee457 Well, to be fair they're intentionally different in terms of tone & style.
Zur is a lot more capable than many give him credit for at really utilizing everything to make a game OST great. Some claim he *just* uses an orchestral approach with everything which is simply not true.
Fallout: Tactics, Fallout 3 and also a significant portion of Fallout 4's OSTs are quite varied, utilizing more ambient music composition that is more reminiscent of Mark Morgan for example (Fallout 1 & 2).

@@Light-YT Now that didn't age well. Starfield got delayed to 2023. It's following all the steps of Cyberpunk until now.
@@Ruzzky_Bly4t it's definitely not following the steps of cyberpunk lol.
The issue with cyberpunk was CDPR promising hundreds of things and not delivering any of the promises, it was flat out false advertisement. Bethesda hasn't promised anything, all they've done is release one teaser and a couple of videos that basically do nothing but explain the lore of the universe.
I'd also like you remind you that some of the greatest games (IMO) have been delayed, such as; RDR2, Insomniacs Spiderman, GTAV, The Last of Us, Elden Ring and many more.
There's nothing similar when it comes to Starfield and Cyberpunk :)
I have a lot of faith in Inon Zur. The way he describes his thought process of creating the music, asking the questions about the universe and designing the music that way, reminds me of the questions I asked myself when _listening_ to the Starfield main theme. It just works.
This game is going to consume my entire being.
I feel like Bethesda has grown with me. I started playing Oblivion and Fallout 3 in middle school. I played Skyrim through high school. Now, as a University student, I reflect on how much I have matured and evolved... I feel as if Starfield is the outcome of much gained wisdom and experience. It is the next generation of gaming, it is more sophisticated and meaningful. I feel as if Starfield is intended for those of us who have grown along next to Bethesda.

@@fireballs7346 I forgot to add Fallout 4 in there! I actually enjoyed it very much.

The music is so important. I think about how well Skyrim uses music; not just in rousing dragon battles, but in sweeping scores when you crest a hill, foreboding atmosphere in a draugr dungeon, or lively tunes in a town or inn. The music wasn't just additive; it sticks with you on its own.
The fact that Bethesda is putting this much work into the "Pre-Game" promotional material for Starfield tells me that they are REALLY confident about how good Starfield is.
My thoughts exactly
The whole point of early promo is to show confidence in the product to sell it to you.

(well, as i have a lot of game bought on the Playstation store, the quality of the xbox gamepass is playing a lil role, but i'm really hyped by this game).
Inon has clearly managed to create a unique sound for Starfield, despite the sci-fi genre being ubiquitous. He's already won top OST of 2022 in my books.
Love the attention to detail , great work Team Bethesda !
Inon is a legend. You know that even if (or when, if you're cynical) this game launches as a buggy mess, you know the music is going to be INCREDIBLE. It'll be worth trying for that alone.
The more of these episodes I watch the more excited I get, hopefully the game is actually good.

Inon's compositions for Fallout 4 were absolutely fantastic. I'll never forget hearing the fallout 4 theme for the first time and getting chills. Same for hearing the institute theme! He's got a fantastic way of creating an atmosphere and, as he says, creating a piece of music you feel and not just hear. His work is incredibly memorable. if you imagine you travel in space like the elder scroll, that's unbelievable, you drive your spaceship in the black universe ,listen to your favorite music ,fly anywhere ,you can do that whole day ,if starfield really present us the whole universe,i can imagine that.
I am getting more pumped for this game every time I see one of these episodes. I have been waiting so long for Elder Scrolls 6, but this looks like it could be a good series as well.
It will surpass TES, I think. Sci-Fi is the most epic thing!
@@Rapunzel879 I love Sci-Fi, but love Elder Scolls too.
I dont want to say that but this company killed the Elder scrolls franchise. The fans won’t wait another 4-5 year. Facts....
