  • Re-tracing the December 1986 steps of U2 and Anton Corbijn into the hinterlands of California, to capture in photos the heart and soul of the songs of the immortal Joshua Tree. From The Harmony to 7th & Main in downtown LA (site of the video shoot for Streets). From my second trip to THE Joshua Tree to the Bodie ghost town, and on to the Oakland Coliseum for the 360 concert on June 7th. (My fifth, after San Jose I 2005 (GA), Oakland I 2005 (GA), Honolulu 2006, & Rose Bowl 2009 (GA)) A very memorable trip indeed...

Yeah, i really love seeing anything from the JT period, pics and movies and whatnot. I dug seeing those images too. That concert really rejuvenated my love for U2. what can i say, I'm ready, for what's next!

oh yeah, man, a spiritual journey for all of them, i'm sure. as is U2's music for us. It's sort of a musical journey really, as Larry would say. Thanks for the images, In God's Country, perfect. I was in junior high when JT came out, and it redefined my worldview. To see all of the places you visited, really moved me! Cheers!

great! Real Thing has such a swinging, glam-y vibe, great way to get a party started. Yes, Edge was cutting on that one real nice. Miss Sarejevo, beautiful, Bono so strong on the opera part. Loved the nod to the diehards with Scarlet, and Zooropa - the whole screen covering them was weird, but maybe it was a statement! And, the closer, I hate to say i had to leave during it (good lord what a clusterf*ck! to get out!), but MOS was so moving. That stage, really brought everyone together.

right on, always down to talk U2 obsession. i gotta say, i think this may have been the most memorable U2 show for me of the 2000's tours. And i was in the verrry most tip top section, close to those big-ass lights. to me, for such a huge undertaking, the show was remarkably loose, intimate even. i loved the impromptu story about the Summit with Green Day and Metallica. For music, of course, loved All I Want is You, that just kicked in, and , wow. My gf loves that song. The opener was...

Great Video! I am a big U2 fan and actually live 1 block away from where the streets have no name was filmed there on 7th and Main. Sometimes I get Pizza across the street and just trip out that I am sitting in the same location. Also have been up to the fallen tree about 3 times now as well. Usually we take a trip over to see in when we go snowboarding up in Mammoth. Good for you that you made the trip!!

@3chrds I think that's one of the myriad reasons I'm such a fan: The band is so multi-faceted that two people can attend the same show and come away with totally different impressions. Oakland last year was a highlight for you; for me, not so much. As far as their shows go, the Rose Bowl and Honolulu were middle of the road for me (although, like fine wine, those memories have aged well!), but I've met others for whom those were top of the list. U2 are truly like no other.

@3chrds thanks for watching and for the kind words! the thing that amazed me the most was how far each of those places was from all the others. how on earth, before the internet, did Corbijn even find those places? the harmony's a good 4 hrs south of zabriskie (did that in '09 on the way to the rose bowl show), which is 90 min or so from "the tree," which is 3-4 hrs south of bodie. the guys must really have thought he was nuts! those places are magic, though, esp the tree. peace!

Thanks for the comments! I'm jealous! I was pressed for time when I was at 7th and Main last time, and really wanted to ask the owners at the Mexican restaurant if they'd let me up on the roof to take some photos. Next time. Cheers!

    Hi Brent,
    Great video.
I'm hoping to take road trip with my father next year and would like to check out all you locations you visited. Any directions you could give would be appreciated. I understand the tree is off the 190 and I think I have the location but it looks a big place and I don't want to miss finding it.
    Thanks

@3chrds no worries, mate! i always love hearing others' impressions of the band. just curious, what did you think of the oakland show? personally, my highlights were EBTTRT as the opener, esp starting with edge's solo; AIWIY (never gets old for me); scarlet; and zooropa. the anton corbijn video during streets was great, too, especially considering the places i'd just been to. the crowd seemed to be lacking, though; which surprised me as oakland 1 in '05 was just the opposite.

I just got back from a trip that included stopping to see the Joshua tree. I want to put out a word of waring to be careful. Given the few places to park you car, you have to walk about a quarter mile out. While I was there, a black car and a black SUV both pulled up behind my car. 3 or 4 people got out, and I could see a guy in a red shirt kept walking around my car on the driver's side. I think they were checking it out to break in. When I swung my camera around toward them, they left.
