Those mechanics that work on these cars, is what really amazes me. What takes me weeks to do on my car they do in hours.

+rocker85675 Yeah a few years ago they were about 8,000hp but the teams have since moved the supercharger location, and made some other tweeks to more evenly distribute air/fuel into the cylinders, Now making 10,000hp.

I have often wondered if the #s are exaggerated, when I first started watching they were at 4000hp then 5-6 then 8-9 now 10? There times do keep dropping tho.

the engine itself isn't all that big, there are small hatch backs with v8 of similar size, however for such a car to be stable it needs a lot of research and development that's why only unstable modded v8 hatch exist currently

These dragsters are best watched at the racetrack and not on CZcams. The sound is incredible, they are so loud that they shake the ground when they run.

Watch at 1:18 to 1:24, the tires receive so much torque and power that they thin out lol. Insanity.
The centrifugal force does that, not the torque. :-)

The tyres/tires have very thin walls and are designed to fold over at the start which makes the surface very flat for far better grip, they also act like a gearbox (which these don't have) the faster they spin which gives them higher speeds for middle and end track.
Those are wrinkle tires, they are just stretching into normal shape

They are made to do that. When moving 400kmh+ air is slowing down a lot. That helps them to move better trough air

My physics teacher had us watch this video when we began our unit on forces, and for a split second i thought we were gonna watch RuPaul's drag race bc i didn't know drag racing was a thing with cars
Who cares what anyone thinks about it. It drag racing baby. NHRA or Australia, it's drag racing. It blows your socks off no matter what continent. I love it, no matter where. It's like going to a rocket exhibition.

Top Fuel Dragsters will win, top fuel dragster can cross 400m in 4.25 seconds. 320kph is 5333 meters per minute and is 88.88 meters per second, multiplied by 4.25 is 377.75 meters. Mind boggling :D

0-160 in less than a second. f1 cars do 0-100 in around 2-2.5, depending. that's x3.80 times quicker.

Of course it is gonna win because Top Fuels are specificially designed for one thing, being the fastest accelerating vehichles on the planet, and an F1 car is designed to be the fastest vehicle around a circuit

Why do some cars have two parachutes and others only have one?
Mene Tekel Its regulation to have dual parachutes for any vehicle that goes over 200mph. Although in this case it looks like one of them got blown off ( from the engine explosion) and the other got deployed then burnt off.

The front tires should be one clue. Another is the stopping distance given, and the fact that the dragster is going WAY faster.

I assume the initial halfway take off is to warm the tires and or to wear them In a little before the real run? These are amazing, I don't see much drag racing but I know with f1 tires they're warmed up before the run or they're like tractionless , and these tires are even bigger

once at the video about formula 1, an expert said that to improve the lap time requires a lot of increasing engine power or very little to improve the tires.

@apefacechromedome Yeah, awesome stuff, You can see its in trouble right off the line (smoke out of catch tank) There's a vid on youtube somewhere when they launch a fueler to the 60ft mark and he still does a 1/4 mile in 9 seconds at 90mph!! Hard to comprehend.

Keep in mind speed is a powerful thing. In the US we cut the line back to 1000 feet because top fuel accelerates so fast they need the extra 320 feet from a quarter mile to shut down. Won't be long until they have to lengthen all the drag strips. That's called a rocket. Ausies will follow. They're our brothers and sisters in speed.

Top fuel dragsters get a complete engine tear down and rebuild after every single pass. They inspect all components and replace anything worn or broken.

8000hp electric motors are available for builders of nuclear submarines so, why not dragsters? A seven ton dragster would be quite a crowd pleaser.
Excactly where the nuclear reactor, or the 27 tons of batteries would fit is a bit of a problem though.
