Captain Joe just said in his live that he actually checked out your channel.
Ninkjeboi I watched that livestream too
@@brandoncisonno4545 nice. Captain Joe responded to my question too. I asked if he played xplane 11.

swiss: why it failed
me: LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THOSE WINGLETS
They are vertical stabilizers-
Swiss001: why did it fail
Everyone: IDK
Swiss001: like cmon..... LOOK AT IT
I don't think you did very much research about this, one of the main reasons it failed was because how long it was held up by the FAA for approval, because it brought 2 massive changes into the industry. Glass Cockpits and Fully composite wings. These didn't have a standard at the time and needed to be approved before it could be certified to fly beyond a testing capacity/carry passengers etc.
This took number of years more than Beechcraft was willing to put up with, it did end up getting through and setting precedents on how these aircraft with these features will be dealt with in the future.
Beechcraft abandoned the project after that because it was becoming a money sink, and sold off/scrapped the rest of them, a few are left as some owners managed to buy out massive stock of the replacement parts that were warehoused. It had issues due to its how ahead of its time it was.
Yet you seemingly keep referencing how it was mechanically a nightmare? I've never seen such reports nor is there a subset of aircraft to even base that on, it barely made it past certification before it was abandoned and only a few are flying left in the world and have been just fine. Mechanically the aircraft is sound.
Additionally was the risk factor that it was a 'scary' canard which for general population wasn't understood, so Beechcraft as always worried about its adoption rate because Canards are non-standard in commercial aviation, not that there is anything inherently wrong with them. They have better stall characteristics and are more efficient in general.
Sorry your meme of a video does this beautiful aircraft a disservice, please do your research next time.

Thanks for your input, I felt this aircraft deserved much more respect than given in this sophomoric review.
Swiss001 : Now let's talk today about Bitchcraft Starship
I heard wrong 🤦♂️
swiss001:
It’s a all glass cockpit, no steam instruments.
*3 steam instruments right in the center of the cockpit*
A starship that is powered by props and isn't able to fly in space, good job beechcraft.
The F-104 Starfighter is jet powered, looks like a starship, but cant get into space. Shame, Lockheed.
@@josephb.3841 .... i hope you realize we're joking
Swiss001: this plane featured an only glass cockpit
Akinator: go to the middle and a bit to the right
Everyone: we see that, even on the 737 max
Steam gauges: are we a joke to you?

Haha
I've NEVER heard anyone say that this plane was a "nightmare" to maintain.
The main reasons it failed were..
1. It tried to do too much too soon. (ie it was too far ahead of its time and so people didnt 'trust' it)
2. It was introduced in a time when airplane sales were stagnant
3. For a business class plane, Business jets were faster and about the same cost (the cost of the start ship was high due to how advanced it was). So people didnt really see the point in getting a 'slower' airplane.
These are really the only reasons it failed. It had nothing to do with its maintenance (and again, from what im told, it wasnt any more difficult to maintain than other planes of its class. In fact, it might have been slightly easier because you didn't have to worry about a metal air frame going though fatigue)
I grew up feeling my lunch at times while my father learned to get his private liscense and I have to say I don't think I've seen a more pretty plane in the sky than the Beechcraft starship. A close second and third are the Kingair 350 and the TBM 900.
I’ve actually seen this plane before one time land at KSNA Santa Ana airport where I work at. Pretty rare plane.

I have been following this channel for a long time now. Totally worth it. Thanks swiss for dedicating so much for this.
We were smart not to use that plane, several problems with it

Swiss I have a recommendation for a dangerous airport.
City: Manizales, Colombia. ICAO: SKMZ IATA: MZL Airport name: La Nubia.
Would love to see you do it, keep up the good content!
It was ahead of its time. Unlimited fuselage life because of its all carbon fiber design.
The push prop propulsion way is very old actually, for example, there are a few WW1 planes which had push props like the Airco DH 1
But turbo prop push planes may be new at the time
Swiss: “very futuristic like the Concorde”

For those who don't know Swiss001's age. He's born on June 2, 1999, so he's around 20 yrs.old
You failed to mention why the maintenance cost a lot. This was the first prodution aircraft to be made of graphite composite materials. Just like the stealth bomber

Captain Joe used your Song (You can always go around) in one of his vids.
Hello there... General Kenobi
I knew you would do something with this aircraft haha
Hard to operate and expensive to maintain is why it failed? Can we get any more details on those two?
Damn. I had a toy version of that when i was a kid.
Lol there’s a plane called Starship in Plaza 2. Btw Swiss if you want to fly one In plaza 2, add me!

"Trying to land ... I guess I'll just stall onto the runway." I thought "stalling onto the runway" was called a "landing."
Good video swiss001
What game is it?
I thought it failed because the construction technology using the new "Composite" materials was NOT really up to the task!
At least not back then.
They're were writing the rules as they tested it. In the end, it was made too heavy for what it was. FAA demanded more structural strength.
just for fun, you should try Sky oddyse for the PS2 I thought it was pretty cool when it came out
At least half of what you said was incorrect. There were many misconceptions as to why the aircraft "was a failure". That's the first incorrect term. It failed to sell. The airplane flew fine and in fact better than many of it's competitors. The concept was so new at the time with glass cockpit, composite fuselage, and unconventional design, prospective buyers were hesitant to change from proven concept. The fact that it was the first all composite construction, not many shops could work on them and there were only two autoclaves in the country that could accommodate the size of the fuselage. Raytheon offered free maintenance as a result which cost the company a lot of money. Due to the small amount of sales and the free maintenance costs Raytheon decided to pull the aircraft. They recalled all but 5 aircraft (those 5 still flying today) and destroyed them, other than those in museums or already in bone yards. The airplane was too far ahead of its time. There was no "special type rating". Aircraft that weigh more than 12,500 pounds require a type rating for that aircraft. It's a weight requirement. The airplane started out weighing less than that but Raytheon went back and beefed up the structure causing it to weigh in at over 14,000+. Not a big deal and very common but without a type rating you have less customers and insurance, (pilot and airplane goes up). The airplane itself was designed by Burt Rutan of Scaled Composites and based upon other proven designs Burt had already had flying successfully for years. Scaled is still in business. The airplane itself has a stellar safety record and many pilots enjoyed flying them. I am a licensed Commercial pilot for over 45 years. I know this airplane pretty well. Composites are common now and this airplane likely would have survived if built 15 years later than it originally was.
Thanks for adding some respect to this review.
