Based on my personal mold exposure experience at higher than outside concentrations, I will say unscientifically that mold absolutely can mess with you physically, neurologically, emotionally and psychologically. The amount of airborne mold outside my home is quite alarming to me (although not completely unexpected) and I am now close to zero airborne mold inside my home now.
Wow. I wish it was funny but it chronically sad. Air samples suck, but for the opposite reason you dislike them. The warning on radon is mostly because it’s nuclear, the data show’s that I would have to hang out in a basement that’s at action level or 4 picocuries for 60 year solid, for a less than 1% increase in risk of lung cancer.
Reason why there is no set limit is because there is no quantitive data to prove a set amount of a particular mold is bad for everyone.
As for air samples. I ran them next to mold, came back that outdoors is way worse than the not tight home with no ERV. I run hundreds of samples and unless I target them, they typically show nothing. I stick with moisture meter and surface samples to verify mostly. Or just judge whether there is condition 2 of condition 1 on a surface.
Moving on. Yes, CIRS, which is a diagnoses that has blood markers and I’ve seen so many with this issue and seen them come back to life when they had issues taken care of and took the medication the doctor gave them. They’ve called my boss in tears because they could think again and felt like they used too again.
Hey, I get it, you never had the issue. I can say it’s sucked and even though I was having all these problems I couldn’t believe it was mold. How binders got rid of migraines, I can’t explain. The dementia I thought I was having was scary and thankfully gone. SBS as outlined in the bioaerosols book, which you never mention and happens to be the gold standard. You just love the EPA because it doesn’t really deal much with mold and leaves it to other agency’s. Yeah, that book outlines and defines sick building syndrome as people feeling ill in a building. Then you have Building related illnesses, like legionnaires, which is considered a BRI because you caught it in a building.
Worth noting no set limit for exposure to histoplasma, guess it’s not harmful to breathe in because the EPA hasn’t set a limit. It’s a mold so I guess it’s in the air everywhere anyways. Then people
Claim they have histoplasmosis, so fake until the EPA sets a limit, it isn’t real. That’s your logic.
The environmental protections agency…. The agency that sets limits on car emissions. Let’s ignore the American counsel of industrial hygienist and solely concentrate on the EPA. They also haven’t set exposure limits to legionella exposure either. Dirty cooling towers are fine. Even if the ERV has an improper intake next to one, you assume the HEPA filter, which is tested outside the machine, it going to preform the same way it does independent of the machine it’s installed into. Then you pretend that the full volume of air in the home will travel through the machine. Without linear flow , it’s never going to happen.
And yes it’s an allergen. For some people, it’s much like a peanut allergy. But what’s the EPA’s set limit for peanut butter exposure again?? I guess my son can bring a sandwich to school with him now cause there is no set limit.
You may want to rethink everything you said I this video. It’s dangerously misleading. I wish it wasn’t!!! I hate seeing what happens to the 1/4 of the population that have a genetic inability for their immune systems to target and help remove certain toxins.

Thank you so much. I was getting a super scammy vibe from a mold testing inspector and he was saying that we needed to test every room in the house for $125 per room and using scare tactics like “come on man you have small kids”. This has been very informative and confirmed my suspicions

Ok....I have huge beef with Western Peer Reviewed scholarly journals, what is considered "proven", and the political agenda of the EPA. Additionally, mycelium, mycology, and all things fungi are absolutely understudied. For example, a mycologist I know sequenced the DNA of hundreds of new fungi species each year.
In regards to the problematic companies that prey on homeowners who are scared. That makes me so mad! I do appreciate your explanations as far as getting rid of the moisture. I live in Humboldt county. A living, breathing moss land lol! I know you are a contractor, unfortunately here, most of us have to rent the cost-of-living is so high and our opportunities are so limited (well jobs that pay living wage or a homeowning wage). Most of the homes here are very old and beat up. I've got a huge dehumidifier and fan going right now in my room I know you disagree with me, but I absolutely am suffering from mold exposure from a yearly flooded 200 year old farmhouse that i had to move out of. I couldn't figure out why I was getting so many shocks, and why I was getting all this weird black crap coming out of my sinuses, my eyes and my ears and my nose, and all of a sudden all my hair kind of turned black at the roots and fell out. I don't know what year you made this, but there are connections mold, exposure, and sinuses, and all that junk. But still, you were on point with finding the source of the water. I think some people don't have the ability to flush the spores from their system. I think about 3% of the population I'm not positive on the data. I appreciate that you want to communicate a well-rounded and well thought out argument, but I would like to state that am truly sick and it's not psychosomatic or anything like that. Anyhow, I don't want to sound like an asshole so I'm gonna go but thank you so much for the informative video. I hope you have a wonderful wonderfully successful career.
Location is Houston - few years ago, I asked a company to do air duct cleaning. After they arrive, they opened the main duct and claim mold inside. Would not do anything until mold issue addressed. I have a well ventilated attic and never saw mold in the attic and around the AC units (in the attic). Personally I've been to many attics to help a AC technician friend. And I never saw mold issue even for the houses with draining pan overflow. My friend works on AC every day in the summer, he says he rarely sees mold issue with the AC all these years and pity those who got scammed by the mold-inspectors.
Did you get pictorial evidence for their claims? Mold is not supposed to be colonizing in our homes, period. And the reason the government/EPA whitewashed mold is because of the insurance companies panicking from the Malinda Ballard Texas case in the 90’s, when they proved in a court of law that the mycotoxins from Stachybotrys caused neurological damage to her husband. They all died from cancer later.

I'm guessing it's the same thought process for a 24ft RV? I use an RV as a music studio in my backyard. Saw some mold, called a mold inspection company that is called "Restoration" Lo and behold it's a free mold inspection, I'm sure I'll get it clean bill of health right lol. I've had that RV for years I've never been sick.
That is correct. Depending on where you live it is possible that the moisture feeding the mold is coming from a leak, condensation from breath or heater, or becoming trapped in the RV because of the humidity in the air. Running a dehumidifier can help ensure that your instruments and electronics aren't damaged from high levels of humidity. If it is a leak RV stores have special adhesives used to seal the exterior of the RV. Best of Luck!
Yes, it was a leak. A lot of rain in Southeast America last week. Feet of rain. I got the wet insulation etc. out. Picked up the 8 inch Roof patch. Sprayed the edges around the patch with "Flex seal" why not right Lol, thanks for your info. Got a couple more steps to go but you know how that goes with moisture.

Aspergillus found via swab in my bathroom wall and mold growth gives off gases and these are damaging to ones health. Says a healthy female that until wall was opened showing water logged areas and building materials covered in large colonies mold. Same are swabbed and reported by outside laboratory to show Coliforms: present.

Thank you for showing us the truth. I have very little black mold under a sink because of a mistake in water overflowing for 1/2 an hour. A remediation guy came, did not measure anything. He just told me that he would charge me $1,500.00 for braking my sink apart because the wood would swell (and leave me with a major problem). When I asked him about the mold, he told me that he would put a fan in to take care of it. Of course, I didn't hire this scammer.
I have mold spots on different walls caused because there was a water leak from pipes in the walls, but never dried, wouldn’t that definitely tell me their is mold in between the walls, never ever get sick in 20 years but a few times, I have, same symptoms, headaches, little feverish, no energy, been sneezing more Than I used to,would kilz prevent any dispersed mold

Whaatttt…. As an inspector this information is soo bogus. I was in the army for 10 years. I lived in many barracks with mold. Ended up in the hospital for mold toxicity! Diagnosed with a number of things that I no longer have after getting out and living in a clean home! Go live in a house with mold for 6 months and remake this video. Would love to see your response then. Absolute false information.
It literally took a 2 minute Google search to refute this video. The EPA absolutely says mold could affect your health in addition to having a guide on how to safely remove it, including mold testing. This whole vid is cap.

You are very sick, I wouldn't disagree. I would ask you to keep an open mind if you want to get better. There is some research suggesting that people who get very sick after mold exposure are not so much affected by the mold or the spores as they are by a biotoxin their body is not good at removing. Mold releases mycotoxin, and your body might suck at handling it. That guy in the video telling everyone not to worry about mold is probably part of the 75% of people who are able to remove the biotoxins before they become a problem. If it doesn't bother him, why should it bother you? That's logical! If you don't like that logic, you may want to see if he minds if you run your blood through his body for a few weeks to see if his body will remove the toxins for you. That's science! And equally logical!
Anyway, there's newer research that has some doctors claiming the mycotoxins from the mold aren't making you sick at all because actually there is family of bacteria that live with "toxic" mold colonies that release the biotoxin that makes your body sick. Dr Andrew Heyman says he no longer tests for mycotoxins when treating mold illness patients because it's the bacteria toxins that matter.
So if Heymans research proves to be correct, that not afraid of mold guy is right. Mold doesn't hurt you.
I think its important to recognize that our healthcare providers have not quite figured out exactly how the illness works, and we're about as good at treating it as we are at giving good nutrition advice only to find out 10-20 years later we got it ass backwards there's a lot of snake oil out there you have to steer around, and just as many clueless doctors in denial that will tell you it's all in your head..
Videos like this are about as helpful as people who will tell you autism, ADHD, and left handedness aren't real because they don't feel left handed or autistic, so people just need to try harder.
Sorry for the book but I was just watching some bedtime CZcams here in my snowy driveway before I fall asleep in my car because while it's cold, it's not overrun with mold like my house and I'd rather sleep balled up next to my steering wheel than struggle through one more day sounding like I have brain damage.

Unless you have a large abnormal buildup of mold that you have been breathing on a regular basis, you are very sick due to having a biological system that is weaker than normal and not able to handle it. Find out what's causing that and fix it. Mold is everywhere. If its only making you sick and no one else, your body is the issue. Not the mold.

The fact that you are stating that air testing is not needed tells me that you have no clue on what you are talking about. There is a certain level of mold in your home but once you are over the threshold, it causes illness.
Thanks for the comment. The the purpose of the video is to outline the limitations to the efficacy of limited air sampling in a home and the fear that some mold removal contractors use to sell their services, and that the underlying issue of moisture feeding the mold is first issue that needs to be resolved. First you stop feeding the mold, then you remove the mold. Also what is the "threshold" outlined by the Environmental Protection Agency? Since the EPA doesn't set a threshold air quality value and only state in their literature that if mold is found it should be removed, doesn't that mean that the primary concern should be to stop moisture issues that allow mold to grow followed by the removal of the mold?
Better listen to GCM D&M, pretty sure he took the two hour online course and payed the 85$ to become a licensed mold specialist.... (for real, that's a thing)

Any chance you could answer some questions. Air pumps that suck air in to then send for lab results, how are those more effective than Petri dishes?
I was told a Petri dish will always show mold but obviously I can send them to a lab to see if there is any bad mold. I was then told it won’t tell me what’s active or mold from years ago. I don’t get it, if there is bad mold then I can look for it, unless they wanna tear down my walls how can they find it?
Also air testing, mold only create spores that spread during high humidity right? So wouldn’t it make sense to test for spore on higher humidity versus a cold dry winter of 20 %humidity? Especially with humidity testing devices? I was told a dry climate won’t matter for testing the air of spores, I don’t get it.
I was also told ozone won’t fix mold issues but as far as I know ozone will destroy mold it touched and it’s spores, I was told it would only make problems worse.
I’m considering putting holes in walls and getting a borescope myself, is that unsafe? Would I expose myself to an issue that way?
