- Upclose and personal look and San Jose BMW's New Carbon Framed HP4 RACE as they bring it over to FastlineCycles to see what kind of numbers this beast puts down. BMW Claims 215hp, lets see what it puts down... This may be the first time one of these has ever been on a dyno.
12 Fast Facts on the BMW HP4 RACE:
1. The 2018 BMW HP4 Race gets slimmed to 377 pounds wet due to three chassis elements that are entirely constructed of carbon fiber-the frame (17.1 pounds), the self-supporting rear frame and the wheels
2. Though the HP4 Race’s light weight is apparent in handling, the carbon-fiber wheels, which are 30 percent lighter than light alloy forged wheels, have a tremendous affect on braking.
3. The HP4 Race arrives with a race-ready 1000cc inline four that is derived from BMW efforts in FIM Endurance World Championship and World SBK S 1000 RRs. The engine produces 215 horsepower @ 13,900 rpm, and 88.5 ft/lbs of torque @ 10,000 rpm
4. But there’s one snag for that much power; the engine only has a life of 3,000 miles until it needs to be replaced for about $20,000 USD.
5. The suspension features online the best Öhlins suspension components-an FGR 300 fork and TTX 36 GP shock-which are identical to the components used in WorldSBK championship.
6. The 2018 BMW HP4 Race arrives with a Suter swingarm that was designed with input from former factory BMW S 1000 RR pilots Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies

You cannnot compare it with r1m because the Yamaha costs about 25000 and the hp about 84000.Of course the hp is full of expensive peripherals.You should compare it with the expensive edition like for an example,Ducati panigale.Thats my opininion.Very beautiful beast though.

@@dephscript1 Because its a race bike so they are expecting it to be at max rpm the entire time its moving. And its just a warranty its not like you actually have to change the engine.

I'm very curious about what causes the engine life to be so short. I'm speculating that it's metal fatigue in the ?aluminum? rods but that's only a guess.
stylac who said anything about the bmw hp4 race engine life being so short ? If it is I assume it has mostly to do with tolerances not so much the metallurgy.

I'm referring to the 4th item in the video description above that claims that the engine needs to be replaced after 3000 miles at a cost of $20,000. I would love to learn more if anyone has any info to share.
For all who critique it's cool. Remember it's all subjective criticism. Guys, though this is a track bike it is not a full track bike out of the box from the factory. The superlagera just like the BMW HP4 race would get smashed out there with the factory super bikes in their series. Don't be so hard on this bike. Why, because more than half of us can't afford even the scheduled maintenance on any of these fantastic machines.

Switch off the traction control while on dyno, it displays dtc error and while dtc is ON there will be power cut off, so you will not get the exact result

This was 209whp using 93 octane?!
The thing is, if the frame is such a fast thing to do, then why such a high price tag. And even if it is an super exiting machine the superlegera is even lighter with headlights and abs if I am remember correctly.
ronjonco1 it is 368.2 lbs/167kg wet for the Superlagera and the bmw hp4 sport is 377lbs/171kg wet without lights. And the Panigale is a "bad" bike when it comes to racing as it does not seem to give riders enough front end feedback. The highly peaky v-twin of the Panigale does not have the drive ability like the older 1x98 had because the Panigale has short stroke which makes the bike hard to tame. So you have actually wrong in both cases, ie about the weight and the character of the v(L)-twin. The weight for the new Panigale v4 is not hard to find so I dont know why you are saying the weight info is conflicting about the Panigale V4.
Mm probably without any fuel in that case for the duc in that case saw an article in swedish where they actually mentioned 178kg of fully wet weight, so yeah it seems to be actually hevier as the bmw seems to be at lest 90% full with fuel when the full weight is given. But when it comes to say the new v4 there are several models, base s and the speciale and the base is supposed to be 198, and the s 195 for the s and "194" for the speciale wet, we will see when how it will change with the speciale if at all.

209 Its a lot but its full Race Bike???The Aprilia RF GP cost a litle bit more but has 247 BHP and Pneumatic Valve wich using only GP.But this show good that what i saying with the classic System with the Classic System with the Feather you are Limited too make more rpm because if you wont durability the feather is Limited with the rpm.The pneumatic and Desmodromik by Ducati is somthing diffrent because this System allowed much more rpm without Demage.Idont think that BMW make much more Power with the new 2018 RR as the Old one.Because BMW know with the Classic Valve System you can not put so much more out of Motor and to Garantie for a durability of the Motor.But BMW for shure go the Way to make Light s 1000rr lighter than all the Rest.For me is this the better Way more Power i usless if you need the Electronic everytime to Handle all this Superbike Beasts they we have Today.
They didn't focus on power. They focused on weight, and handling for this one. You can build the motor on a standard s1000rr to get around 230whp out of it.

Ducati v4 s is making 199 hp to the wheel stock with full exhaust and ecu it will make more then the hp4 race and for less then half the price
and you wont replace the engine every 3000 miles.
