- After becoming the United States National Champion, Tiffany Chin was sidelined with a mysterious muscle imbalance for most of the 1985-1986 season. In part two of our interview with Tiffany, she discusses her muscle imbalance, the decision to end her amateur career just short of the 1988 Olympic Games, her coaching philosophy, and the infamous fluff piece that shifted the public's perception of her career.

This interview is such a blessing, Dave. I want every skater to really hear what Tiffany is saying. Her words, and mindset, could also be applied to former skaters now working in competitive professions (writing, translation, journalism, politics, etc.). Amazing how so many years later Tiffany’s message is still timeless. Bravo again, Dave.
Regarding weight - if you’re an athlete, or want to be at the top of your game, don’t expect coaches to sugar coat things about your weight. (Also, demanding skaters be as lean as possible is not fat-shaming either.) Being an athlete, sort of by definition, indicates that you are in a sport pushing you body to the limit. You can’t safely do that being overweight. Period. It’s a safety hazard, and in pairs and dance you’re putting your partner’s safety in danger. So don’t expect me to spare any egos in the slightest, if your weight endangers you or your partner. And this matter should be addressed before coaches take on students so everyone knows what to expect. That way, no one is “insulted” and special circumstances can also be duly addressed.
What a well spoken confident and well rounded lady! I wish her all the best in her life, boy, anyone who is exposed to her aura is truly lucky indeed. If I were to use one word to sum up Tiffany, it would be SPECIAL.
Tiffany is so terrific, great interview. Love you, Jenny and Dave!
This was always my favorite skater and I always admired her. I felt bad she had such a hard time during the final years in her career. I am proud she represented our country so well and kept her head in these high pressure moments
Wow, such an inspiring person! :)
A good interview, Tiffany is extremely well spoken. I was a fan during those years and so disappointed when she retired from eligible skating. The interview gave me the insight why and like she said, own your decisions!
I like the "its not the mystery of the unknown that keeps you from your goal". Nice!!
She should be a motivational speaker.
EXCELLENT job!
who is next on your list?
I think i really like Tiffany. I like how real she is.
Tiffany Chin Outstanding Chinese beauty Goddness
Oksana Baiul, please!!!
She never talked about the infamous fluff piece about her career. Lol.
Skating has a lot pf politics in it. Dorothy Hamill talked about this in her '83 book. Tiffany is a coach & still in the skating world so she has to give a good face on things to make certain powerful people happy. Maybe she'll write a book one day and tell the whole story and be more candid like Hamill was in her books.
Franko Arrow I wonder if they're interviewed Kristi Yamaguchi.
????
what are you talking about?!?
Excellent! John nicks go back and lose a few pounds!! She is so in the current era now she was totally disbelieving she was there!!!
