It's not just living longer. It's about enjoying the later years.
So true…I don’t care so much about living a long time as I do dying quickly at the end of a healthy life
Absolutely! Quality of life is a major goal of mine as I age! Keep moving!
Yeah, how many fools say, my grandad smoked 2 packs a day and had shots for breakfast and he lived to 93! Yeah, but he felt like hammered shit for most of it.
Quality, not just quantity.
I@@jjabrony1973i see whatbyou mean. But being healthy results in a longer life in most cases
The good thing about these daily/weekly videos, is that it reminds us to not give up on healthy choices!
That foolish influencer just tries to keep people on their toes. He wants to sell something. That's all.
Wow who woulda thought eating natural non processed foods from the Earth would slow down the aging process 🤔
Rather, this body is just not evolved enough to handle good times. It needs you to be living in a primitive dumpster in some ways. It’s sad.
idk, we are growing older now than any modern human even 100 yrs ago. it's not really that obvious, even when common sense dictates all cause mortality was higher then
But what you should get from the earth also depends on which animal you are.
I have about half the routine down👍 PS I want you to know this channel is responsible for this old guy giving up my daily beer consumption. About 2 months now and I feel great. Thanks.
Congrats Austin. Thomas is truly a great example and motivator. He is the best of the best!
My father lived to be 83. Had beer or wine everyday. Took 5-6 med a day. I tried to warn him. But it did no good. His father lived to be 94.
I cut out beer too after drinking heavily since jr high basically. Don’t even miss it.
The lead author of the paper, Dr. Kara Fitzgerald, released a book last summer breaking out the diet used in the study. It is called "Younger You".
Thank you! It would have been nice if Thomas had mentioned this book.
This is basically the terry wahls diet who is a doctor in the States who was diagnosed with MS and couldn't beat it until she started studying diet and created this one. Reversed her MS and is functional now when she was previously in a wheel chair. She has a teds talk, I believe out of all the diets from the smartest people out there, hers is possibly the best.
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:54 *🧬 Epigenetics play a crucial role in gene expression, affecting various aspects of health and longevity.*
02:34 *🥦 Specific dietary and lifestyle interventions, including Mediterranean-style eating, targeted supplementation, exercise, and adequate sleep, can potentially reverse epigenetic aging.*
06:30 *🕰️ After just 8 weeks of the intervention, subjects were able to reverse their epigenetic clock by two years, indicating significant age reversal at the epigenetic level.*
08:22 *🔒 Polyphenols and other nutrients in the diet influenced DNA methyltransferase, effectively modulating gene expression by locking and unlocking DNA, potentially influencing health outcomes.*
10:53 *🥕 The study suggests that a lower carbohydrate approach combined with a diet rich in micronutrients and fiber may have the most significant impact on epigenetic aging, emphasizing the importance of nutrient-dense foods for health and longevity.*

Not gonna lie, i wish this was about pizza.
Being amazing and tasting amazing? As an Italian I might be biased but Italian foods the best.
Pizza bowls w/vegetables like artichoke hearts, spinach, onions & garlic are acceptable or a real homemade cauliflower crust are easy replacements for pizza 🍕
My mom just had pepperoni pizza last night. She will be 100 next month.
@@user-ev6xm8vo9n i actually make pizza with organic flour and all organic ingredients. I don't have blood sugar issues or issues with grains and dairy. But i have eaten caulipower pizzas before. They are decent.
Wow buddy, this is killer info. Much appreciated.
Great video Thomas! I took notes 🙌🏼
I find your frequent videos very motivating, thank you Thomas!
Ignore all the haters, keep doing what you're doing 💙
I'm blown away by what you're doing. Good job.
Very fascinating, thank you Thomas!
But that's so many variables. How would they know if only two or three of these things aren't accounting for all the benefit? Seems like they'd have to test every permutation/combination to figure it out.
pretty similar to how I live and eat right now, good to know i'm on the right path
I'd like too see the same study over a longer period of time. 6 months to a year
Awesome content Thomas!
one ofmy fav vids so far dude
Great video
per day 2 cups leafy greens, 2 cups colorful veg, beets, cruciferous veg, lean meat, pumpkin & sunfloewer seeds, 2 cups low glycemic fruit
The lead author, Kara Fitzgerald, released a book last summer breaking out all the details of the diet used in the study. It is called "Younger You".
Thanks Thomas. A great video. Can you please put a link to the study? I really would like to read it.
You did a great job explaining this. Schools can play this on repeat in their cafeterias. Health and gym teacher can share this with their students. Doctors with their patients and play this in their waiting room. Can someone open an eatery serving these items so I can either dine in or drive through. I’ll pay you more than enough to source organic nutrient dense options, wash everything, prepare and serve it to me in nontoxic containers.
That should happen in a healthy stable society. Unfortunately our societies are not.
Dr. Terry Wahls, who has reversed her MS to a great degree, recommended this diet 14 years ago. The problem, IMHO, is that so many people's guts cannot handle so many of the colorful foods recommended. She has published a number of books if people want a detailed review of how she overcame her disease and her ideas about why she got MS in the first place.
@@billger5710Yes, I believe she eliminates many of known foods that cause gastric issues, gluten, eggs, grains, nightshades, etc.
I believe that the stress of getting all these things correct, will eliminate the benefits.
Not really. Once you have a routine/diet/supplement stack figured out for your needs, all it takes is discipline after that to keep consistent with it.
YEAH. DO NOT GET STRESS. DO NOT COME BACK TO CLASS. YOU WON'T MISS ANYTHING AND WE WON'T MISS YOU MOST IMPORTANTLY.
I'd like to mix with the kind of people who could keep to such a regime. I'm there sometimes, close at other times. It would be wonderful to have others around you living like this all the time!
I'm forever grateful to this channel, not only about the content itself, but it's also amazing to be able to share this enthusiasm, i know what it feels like... like it gives you something to live by... kinda reminds u that, life is not about sustainance, it's about constant innovation, so u have almost always got chance to do it better...
they should do the same experiment again and add legumes and see if it makes any changes wether positive, negative or neutral.
😮 fascinating...curious how much beets in juice form?
Thomas...so if you were to do this eating program for yourself....what would you add to it or delete from it? Another words.. one great eating and supplement program
Wow... heavy on the science (not a bad thing)... with tons of good info, too. Going to have to go back through the video and take better notes on the specific components of the diet / supplements. Thanks again... keep up the great work.
Dr. Kara Fitzgerald details this diet in her book, Younger You--Reduce Your Bio Age and Live Longer, Better.
I would really love to get Dr. Chaffee's opinion on this.
good one
I do appreciate the information, and it is very interesting. As a person who carries around kidney stones in both kidneys, I'd be very afraid to follow this diet though.
Thank you for explaining Epigenetic’s in layman terms! Great information!
Playing the "ones that improve" second on 2x speed could be the next backing vocal to a summer trance tune 😃
what kind of baseline are we working with? if you just walked for 30 minutes a day and drank water- what effect did that have on epigenetics
Methylation generally is NOT a way to activate genes/transcription factors. Adding methyl groups SILENCES genes in most cases because it makes the DNA more stable/non reactive to RNA polymerase or transcription factors. Conversely, adding acetyl groups to histones is how genes and associated proteins are activated. Inhibiting this essentially makes the region of DNA more densely packed, so inaccessible by RNA polymerase and transcription factors. The more a cell differentiates for example, the more methylation it has because it should only express relatively few genes appropriate for its cellular identity.
I'm read this 5 times, barely understanding. Silencing genes to allow the cell to do it's specific job, that's a good thing, right?
Struggling to understand
@LeapOfFaaaith yes when genes are silenced the cell is becoming more specific to do only its designated job if you will. Stem cells on the other hand are not yet specialized to be any given cell such as a muscle cell or liver cell. Stem cells are less methylation and so have the potential to express a grander array of genes which are eventually turned off when the cell becomes more specified. Tumor cells also have less methylation which is bad because then there can be inappropriate activation of genes involved in cell division, hence faster tumor division and growth. Acetylation is essentially the opposite, it acts to promote certain genes that are favorable
@@WorldUHproblumzSTEAKS8ONE I'm confused. Acetylation is the opposite of methylation? Or acetylation is the opposite of tumor cells and tumor cells are the opposite of methylation, so acetylation is the same as methylation?
Diet sounds like the Wahls Protocol.
I knew you were going to roll right int Seed when you mentioned probiotics. Nice smooth transition.
Hahah. I just ordered it two days ago. Haven’t received it yet. It’s the first product I’ve bought as a listener of this channel. However, I’m sure that I’ve been influenced as far as some of the food I’m eating and vitamins and minerals I supplement with.

3 servings of a 4 oz peice of liver per week is 50 times the Rda for copper. If you keep eating like that you may experience copper toxicity. A short term study like this is dangerous misinformation. Anything in the short term can provide positive results. If you followed this diet for a year you stand a good chance of being anemic, getting diarhea and damaging your kidneys. Copper toxicity is also implicated in neurological and psychiatric disorders. Some people cant handle copper very well. In one year you would eat 600 times more copper than you needed and thats not including copper from other meat and vegetable sources. You would not see any adverse effects in such a short study.
Even wild game like moose, deer etc are starting to show signs of toxic liver and other organs. I'll pass. Not to mention the high Vitamin A which you can overdose one. I'll pass on the liver.
You have a lot of faith in the RDA, eh? Do you even know how they were derived?
@@Eclipto14 actually, thats a fair point. I do know how they were created. But copper is not the only element of concern with eating excess liver. Theres vitamin A toxicity as well.Every bioëpgist or scienist worth their salt says that liver should be had in moderation. 3 xs week is not moderation and God forbid you have Wisons disease and cannot clear copper from the body. Its rare...1 in 30,000, but it exists. Its higher in those of European descent.
Not for specific copper diseases, but there are other scientists who say that copper deficiency and excess iron is what the problem is for most people. Just heard this the other day. Someone else will probably have a different theory (and a book) tomorrow, who knows? 😊xx
For that reason it's better to eat chicken and other poultry livers more often and calf's or lamb's liver only once in a while. Chicken liver has the same B vitamins and A without the massive dose of copper. Plus, you can eat oysters for zinc and restore some balance.
That explains it. I've been doing this for a 2 years now. I look like an infant.
So eight weeks == a couple of years, how does an extended version of this affect? Do the benefits compound? 8 weeks isn't a lot of time for optimization of the body - tendons take way longer than that to grow, so what else in the body would benefit?
What about oxalates in the beets and leafy greens? I went keto without realising it was low oxalate (I hadn't heard of them back then) and ended up with full body muscle/bone pain which was only eased after re-introducing oxalates and then slowly weaning myself off them. No more oxalates for me.
Some people are very sensitive to oxilates. I friend of my husband is and he actually had very few in his diet. He was given a list and all foods he rarely ate.
@@dawnelder9046I agree..I make beet green shakes every day. Also eat nuts and seeds and have no issues. Limit raw spinach just because they are way up there. I also eat a lot of chia seeds and fiber and probuotic foods.
@@dawnelder9046 They not only cause most kidney stones but go into the bloodstream, soft tissue, bone, cartilage and the brain. Could explain the arthritis that started before I was 40 despite having no family history of it.
oxalic acid crystals make my eyelids dry and sandy in the middle of the night.
Wow props to these doctors
Apparently, none of the participants had jobs.
Very good point… I started taking care of myself once I retired; before there was just no time. Getting up early, getting ready for work with quick breakfast, eating candy for lunch because there was no time to sit down, coming home late and also eating highly processed foods before showering and falling in bed. 1.5 hours commute (combined) per day. And toxic work environment.
By the way Thomas you are looking your best ever your skin is so clear it seems you are in your optimal weight your skin is glowing And you seem more calm even congratulations
What is your specific diet in a daily weekly and monthly basis?
A lot of people are against the "longevity" movement: saying that we all die anyway, etc... As a person suffering from multiple rare genetic conditions, longevity to me means the possibility for a better quality of life. As genetics/epigenetic research progresses, I hope they can help cure or treat certain conditions. Fortunately, this is basically the protocol I've been inherently following for many years. Another great video, thanks!!
And you still could include beans in this if you used low carb ones like soy (tofu, tempeh, unsweetened soy milk) or lupin flour.
I have been considering doing keto for a while now, but I wasn't sure if it was healthy for longevity, as certain studies have shown that it can shorten life.
But if you keep the saturated fat low using lean meats only and getting lipids from olive oil, nuts, seeds etc... this could negate any of the negative effects associated with keto.
Dr. Eathan Weiss, is a cardiologist that does keto, and he eats similar to this, but he uses fish almost exclusively, I don't think he eats any chicken or red meat.
i know everyone is diffrent but keto destroyed my health. I got hormone problems (gyno/hair loss) and was stressed out all the time. i think because i ate mainly carbs in the past and have a high amount of muscle and move a lot. Check for youreself but dont force
How many calories a day is this protocol? And how do they quantify it reversed aging by 2 years?
Would 16 weeks reverse 4 years?
I sincerely doubt that the impact is linear like that. It’s likely that at least half of the people in the study would test out older methylation than their chronological age. Far easier to reduce the age of someone who has aged beyond their years due to bad habits than to continue to reduce the age of people who eat healthy, exercise, sleep well, etc
Interesting, but so many specific things have been done it will be hard to know what are the actual causes and what are irrelevant. I'll have to go read the paper, but thanks for the pointer to potentially interesting work.
"Study Finds THESE Foods Reverse Aging" not really, its just that they changed their lifestyle for better, so their health/epigenetic age got better.
A spreadsheet/graph would be nice that way I don't have to make my own! lol
Man, I've wished I was able to eat liver for years now. Just the smell of cooked liver makes me gag :((
Been eating all natural from a very young age and have continued the same into my retirement years.
Most people think I'm 1/2 my age.
Ate very little procesed foods, fried and starchy carbs.
Been exercising since highschool and continued into adulthood always concerned about weight gain.
Do occasionally have a glass of wine or 1/2 beer.
Get 1/2-2 hrs exercise 7 days a week.
High plant based and green teas, nuts and seeds.
Planning to eat 30% more ground meat and Liver for more collagen production and better overall longevity.

Would it be a disadvantage to eat significantly more eggs than 10 per week? (about 20-30)
Thanks for the great content!
More like 5 to 10 eggs per day for me.
It is a great video but problem is it is asking for a almost perfect scenario
You can do it gradually if you’re unable to withdraw from all contraband foods at once. Dr Wahls says do what you can when you can.
the study designer has given some interviews on this, pretty interesting stuff
I have a 75 yr old young friend who eats sweets all day long n hates all healthy food. She is thin, pretty n a picture of health! Energetic. Me on the other hand, am 15 yrs younger, eat healthy since i was young, but even looking a healthy food, run the risk of putting on weight etc. She has no health issues. I am ok too. Has to be genetics but also where you live. She lives in proximity of clean air mountains n I in a big smog city.

Very much appreciate the content you provide. Truly. But could do with out the cheesy thumbnails.
Seems like a lot of variables here. Could it be that the benefits were caused by only one of them. Like exercise or any one of the other variables?
That’s my routine. I already know it but you need to be patient and pay attention to many things
I wonder how the participants felt after the 8 weeks?? Did they feel younger?
Bro, those Seed promos are out of control 🤣. Tom gotta be getting paid BIG MONEY from Seed to push it full throttle every episode lmao
You just have to get used to being relatively fatigued and bored and a bit depressed. I say relatively because it's reletive to people who are eating cheese burgers, cakes and energy drinks all day, then having a few beers every night all just to get their high! We're getting programmed more and more through social media that we should be happy and high all the time and that 'life is for living' or 'you only live once' type of mentality! I'm not saying never treat yourself, but we need to lower our baseline of happiness so it takes less to make us happy.
So many of these videos I end up looking up “food sources of…X” and the same answers always come up: healthy fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and lean meats. Its not hard ppl.
Did any one made the list to share it? :) p.s I listen this on a work out, so could’ve had notes
Gosh. I have no idea how a person could eat that much in a day! Did they work, or do they just eat all day?
So one main component of the diet… and it’s huge (I know this because I read the book on this diet) are adaptogens. If it would be only nutrient rich diet without the adaptogens, the results would not have been the same. These adaptogens are able to guide the nutrients where they are needed and turn on beneficial genes while turning off non beneficial genes.
Omg! It would take me a freaking MONTH to eat all that! 😳😳😳😳
few suggestion or what i do:
1.) a smoothy (2-3 servings): 1 orange, just cut off the peel, easy n fast; 1 kiwi, some eat the peel i dont; few spoons blueberry; lil bit water, i filter it and 1-2 spoons psyllium husks; stevia drops to sweeten it - use a blender and you can remove the worst of the unsavory fibers (orange) from the blender cutouts.
[warning too much psyllium husks or letting it sit for too long and it thickens]
2.) get an airfryer and look for frozen broccoli and sprouts ofc good quality to my experience the taste can be remarkably different so maybe you need to find out which brand.
-sprouts: olive oil and salt while still frozen into 240°C 460°F or max for about 12 min, you want them lil burned outside and tender inside, remove and immediately while hot add pepper 1 spoon balsamic vinegar and 1 spoon raspberry or any other enhanced vinegar, stir so the vinigar evaporate and what you left with is kinda glazed. i hated sprouts now i cant get enough of, but only one brand satisfied me, im a picky eater tho.
-broccoli : the sprouts recipe kinda works (180°C 360°F time differs a bit cut-size related), but there are lots of recipe you ll find on YT, many im sure to your liking (search for: broccoli air freyer).
for both key is the "burned/crisp outside and tender inside" experience!!! so put in frozen.
3.) salad: ofc some salad; red onions, paprika, sunflowers and pumpkin seeds get dehydrated barberry; optional: chives, parsley, grated carrot,..
dressing is key! dont be afraid of lil bit of sugger here! either use enhanced vinegar and olive oil, or what ever fits your taste, i add in honey-fermented-garlic (super easy done, just put garlic in honey and let it sit for 1-2 weeks).
4.) liver (for those woh dont like the taste): remove some of the tatse by putting it in milk, but not over night or for too long (disolves the vitamins) 1/2 - 1 h is fine. cut in small pieces and remove all parts not easy to cut (where you feel resistance), also the big blood vessels. fine cut onions, garlic and an aple same cuts size as the liver.
fry (mid-high heat) onions in ghee/clarified butter till first browning occurs, add gerlic and give it 20-30 sec., shove onions and garlic aside (or remove), add the aple fry for about a min. or less just caramelize one side is enough, shove aside (or remove) and add the liver on max. heat dont stir one side fryed is enough for roasting flavor! about 1 min depends on cut size, now while the liver is partial raw add everything backor mix it up, sprinkle 1 tea spoon flour over while mixing up, add tomato paste or lil bit t.-sauce, deglaze right away with lil bit red wine (nearly all wine should evaporate), add soup/-fond after that or water and instant soup. just as much to have a thick sauce, now add salt, peper and a bit of marjoram or spice to your liking keep it simple tho! [if necessary add ghee at any step]
if you made it all the way here a lil bonus ;)
my 3 principles:
-it needs to be health, or you dont need it!
-it needs to be done fast or easy, or you dont do it!
-it needs to be tasty, or you dont eat it!
(for every day meals)
I wonder what it was last week?

The diet & supplements are detailed in Dr. Kara Fitzgerald's Book, Younger You: Reduce Your Bio Age and Live Longer, Better
What tells us that grains and legumes beinig low in this diet had any positive effect? Thre were so many variables, it's impossible to know which ones contributed and which ones didn't or even were detrimental. As a matter of fact, legumes and whole grains both have been associated with increased life expectancy. I would not expect to see positive effect from excluding them.
