This video shows American Saddlebreds in the discipline of Saddleseat. Certain gaited horses are bred to move like this and there is no abuse or soring shown in this video.
This video does not show the biglick or Tennessee Walking Horses being abused. If you want more information on that topic, I have a video around the abuse of the biglick.
Everyone has an opinion on the way a horse moves and carries its head. Some people thinking that saddleseat is stunning and beautiful and some people think that dressage and more low headed horses are pretty.
I've got a saddlebred mare but I don't ride her in saddleseat, use her as a normal english show horse and hacker. She's a peach ❤️
Chloe Iacovou saddleseat is normal too.
My mare is a saddlebred too she used to do Saddleseat 5 gated but now I do hunter on the flat
Chloe Iacovou yeah saddleseat is normal!
Nobody really appreciates Saddleseat. They make assumptions on how the horses are trained and cared for, but these horses are bred for this and are different. Saddle seat is a quite rare form of riding, and not many people know how spoiled most of these horses are. Believe or not, saddleseat is very difficult. I’d say it’s one of the hardest disciplines of riding. You must have perfect form and good control. Most people confuse saddle seat with “The Big Lick”, a totally abusive discipline. Saddleseat does not put large, extreme, weighted shoes on their horses. Sure, the shoes may be a little big, but nothing to uncomfortable or hard for the horse to handle. The bits are not as hard on the horse as you believe. If anything, Dressage has bits just like Saddleseat. You guys here in the comments are making a fuss about the horses tails. Tails are not in braces forever. Breeders clip tendons, and the tendons get stressed but, when a tail is braced and higher it relaxes those tendons and makes it more comfortable for the horse. Please do research on this topic before writing an essay on why saddleseat is “abusive”. Most of you probably only hear the “bad” things about saddleseat, not the positives like how well the horses are treated and cared for.
the shoes on saddlebreds are NOT big they fit the foot properly.
@@Lauren-vd4qe I meant that they may look large, yes they do fit the horses properly lol
@@soupdy5027 saddlebred horse shoes are NOT large!! are u talking about the big sick lick TWH clodhopper shoes?
@@Lauren-vd4qe to people who do jumping and things like that the shoes on saddlebreds may look bigger, i’m not a big lick supporter i love saddleseat but some people think saddleseat shoes and the same as big lick and i was trying to clarify that they may look like they are bigger than some other shoes but they are perfect for what they do
@@soupdy5027 Ive never heard other equine people state that saddlebred shoes are any bigger than any other breed of horse and ive never thought that either so perhaps your comment was for people around kentucky and tennessee where the big sick lick class pervades its evilness as normal, but even then, the shoes for the two different breeds are as different as night and day so for the life of me i cant see why anyone would think that. end of thread ok..

Everyone has an opinion on the way a horse moves and carries its head. Some people thinking that saddleseat is stunning and beautiful and some people think that more low headed and floaty horses are pretty.
Do remember that these horses are gaited and bred to move and carry themselves this way. This is not abuse, just simply a different discipline with different training and movement.
WHAT A BULLSHITT, i dont care, those bits makes me wanna throw iin ur demet face, shittty sport
Hey horse source I love your videos I was wondering could you do it must have been the wind by Alec Benjamin
But the video shows weighted shoes and pads along with tails that have clipped nerves. I'm not sure about you but clipping a nerve in a horses tail to make it sit like that (along with keeping the tail in a brace) is abusive to me.
@@diary.of.a.equestrian1931 OH FINALLY! someone that understands! thank you!
Anna Porro a bit is as bad as the rider
Finally a saddle seat video for me 🥰
to everyone saying it is abuse, the big lick uses a completely different breed of horse and they use soring to exaggerate the horse's gait. saddlebreds naturally move like that from a young age. in the description box of the video, Horse Source talks about how it isn't abuse and how it IS NOT the same as the big lick. please educate yourself before commenting
.
ok, but WHY would they use TWO bits?!? One big bit is bad enough now it a big one AND a small one. THE HECK!
Please explain the heck they use TWO for. Just seems like more discomfort in the horse's mouth to me. But I ride Arabs and QH and try NEVER to use a bit. I've never ridden a saddle seat. I have ridden the type of horse they use for saddle seat but it was just a few laps around the arena at a friend's house, not anything fancy. I was mainly walking. And she didn't use a bit on hers. so again. Could you explain the logic behind using TWO pieces of metal instead of one or (more preferably) none?
@@bjhorselover2016 some people use a double bridle because saddleseat riders use two reins. So not everyone uses two bits. also, world class saddlebreds are younger horses (2-4 years old), so they can be harder to control. So mostly more advanced riders with harder to control horses use 2 bits, but i've personally never used 2 bits.
@@jasminechen009 Ok, I see. 2 years? Isn't that a little young? Horse's bones don't fully fuse till there 3 closer to 4 (It varies on breed but that's the average).
@@bjhorselover2016 usually they start competing around age 3 or 4. but they do lots of groundwork before that
@@jasminechen009 Gotcha. Thanks. I thought you meant they started riding them at 2. Yea, my mentor (Debra Noem) starts doing groundwork as young as 6 months, leading them and brushing them messing with their feet, etc. at a year she starts putting saddle pads on the foal. And once the foal is good with that she puts a small saddle (Like the ones for little kids) on the foal and lunges in the round pen, getting the foal used to a saddle. She also does leg cues, which she teaches from the ground first. So by the time the foal is 3, 3 and a half-ish, it already knows backup, leg cues, etc.
To all the equestrians, really saddle seat. Saddle seat is special because its more challenging, more levels, and the horse has the head up so they may spook more, and you have to keep your hands up with out touching the horse (you get what I mean) But Saddle seat rules anyway!!!
@Anna Daugherty You ride saddle seat AND love Harry Potter?? Be my BFF already LOL
I ride saddle seat
Yes!!!!! Finally, a saddle seat video! I ride saddle seat, and these horses are amazing creatures! They are so much fun to ride, and they are such beautiful horses! #Saddlebred
Same and I’m so glad someone realizes it’s not abuse I’m so tired of it
@@Saddle_Editz I'm really confused, I'm not getting it confused between Big Lick but don't they put over sized shoes on? I haven't researched it enough to truely find out but I'm really trying to dig into if it's the natural movements of the horse can you explain?
@@valentinaemeraldrider9694 no saddleseat is completely natural
@@Saddle_Editz I just watched the video, the horses looked like they had been trained to move a little more exaggerated and did not look uncomfortable at all.
@@valentinaemeraldrider9694 there not I can assure you that’s there natural gait I know because I’ve trained tons of show horses and we don’t add anything to them
I finally found a SaddleSeat video!!!
I’m friends with Michael Arquilla if anyone really knows the SaddleSeat world you should know who he is 🤫
My friend knows him personally!! Hes a really cool person and his sister is rlly talented also 💖
Ren holy crap that so cool
These horses are so stunning, I mean all are but these ones always take my breath away
For all of you haters out here, this is why saddleseat is NOT abuse:
1.) These horses naturally move like this, and their headset is naturally like this. Sure, as a saddleseat horse get older, its headset might drop, and its gait might drop, but that is because of age. Old humans (no offense) turn into hunchbacks, and need special care. But when they were younger, they were most likely happy and healthy.
2.) The bits are similar to the ones used in dressage, and are ridden with very light hands. These bits most of the time get used for shows/show prep, and the horses mostly get ridden in d ring snaffles, with double/one rein attached. The horses have show shoes that actually help with them pick their feet up, unlike the big lick (horrible and disgusting, a disgrace for the TWH breed)
3.) These horses are bred to do this, and in their genes, they have saddleseat ancestors, making them like to do this. As you can see, these horses got lots of pats in the video, and their ears were forward. Sometimes, they tilted back, to listen to the riders voice commands, and to listen to what was going on around them.
4.) The saddles are cutbacks, which allow the horses to move like they do a lot easier. they slip back a tad bit, because in most shows (only for schooling shows) running martingales are not allowed. Saddlebreds show what they are feeling, and if they were in any discomfort, they would not be moving so effortlessly.
Now that you people might be a bit more educated, you all can sign a big lick illegalization petition, so type your name below, and i will sign it for you. Tysm-Josie on her dads account
Oh I didn’t know that a horses tail is supposed to be snapped in half to „look prettier“ and have really big heavy shoes on... I guess that’s „natural“
I know the have a natural gait but you have changed and exaggerated that gait in to something ugly, painful and unnatural!
Jenaya Olsen I hope your talking abt the big lick because we DON’T do that in saddleseat :)
@@chrishale1345 actually the vast majority of you do... the bent tail, big shoes, etc. is used by almost everyone. I worked at a saddle seat barn... they used different scare tactics towards the horses, had big heavy shoes, and a snapped tail. Yes, I am talking about saddle seat! Sure not everyone but definitely the vast majority!
Jenaya Olsen we don’t do that. Look up “saddle bred foals” I swear on my dads grave that we don’t do that. And when you look it up. Their headsets, gaits, tail sets are the same. Go educate yourself.
Amazing the music ❤🐎
Could you make a video with mainly tackless riding? I think that could be kinda cool
I got to meet the horse and rider I look up to, who specializes in saddle seat. She’s now my trainer and friend.
LUCKY
When I was really young this was one of my favorite songs and I still like it
I’m riding icelandic horses, the gaits are similar, but i personally think it suits small horses like iceys better than Saddlebreads, but thats just my opinion 🐴
Yes, Y think the same😒🙄
You may be thinking about Tennessee Walking Horses and the biglick, which is very abusive. This video is only American Saddlebreds
Horse Source yes, this was what i meant, thank you for the information!
@Ussuri yea
I've owned saddlebreds, just love them!!!🐎♥️🐎♥️🏇
How can people think that's beautiful
Kiara Kerber well it’s only a opinion
@@claudianikles1216 that's looks awful

BEAUTIFUL👍😍🐎😍🐎😍🐎😍🐎😍👍
I don’t see how people enjoy this. If you could think about what saddlebreds have been through to be forced to do that gait, you wouldn’t think this is beautiful
Narwhicorn saddlebreds naturally carry their heads high and have a big trot. You don't need to force them to do that bc it comes naturally. My horse even trots like that in the pasture. Educate your self before you comment
Narwhicorn These horses weren’t forced to do that gait. They NATURALLY do that big trot. This is not big lick, big lick is only in Kentucky and only Tennessee walker horses do it. They can’t trot either, big lick horses can only walk. Please look up “big lick horse show” it is not the same as this at all. These horses weren’t forced to do this. I am a saddleseat rider myself, it isn’t abuse at all.

@@tournamentproductions8392 cool!!!! There so awesome
I know that these horses are bred to move like this, but it is not healthy for any horse to hold their head this high because they can`t use their back muscles to carry the rider. Thus, the back bones of the horse suffer.
Anna Schmidt that is the natural headset they have.
saddlebreds naturally move like that from a young age. please educate yourself before commenting
All you said is true, except when you say it isn't abuse. The reason it's abuse is because of those disgusting bits and the fact that they are pulling on their horse's mouth in some of the clips shown here
Nicole Valaskatzis some of it is abuse, some of the riders are very passionate about their horses. We hold our reigns tight because they love to go fast.
Nicole Valaskatzis thank u
@siriously dumb Yeah Saddleseat bits have cushioning in them
Old comment I'm aware but I kinda feel the need to comment. Literally any bit can be abuse if used incorrectly, same goes to spurs and whips. They should only be used as an aid. This bit is comfortable and not abuse at all if used correctly.
