    I would love to see videos comparing perfumes in your wardrobe to one another, i.e. I'm not just interested in low cost alternatives to high end fragrances. I think comparing a group of similar fragrances is actually a great way to talk about scents and what sets them apart. Similar to your comment about Rose de Jamal, I'm now worried about having more rose-forward scents than I can wear, and I think seeing your approach to comparing the scents in your wardrobe (rose or otherwise) would help me think about how to compare mine.

    Your no buy has been so inspiring and I want to do it myself. I am at the point where I have at least 40 samples that I haven’t even tried. And I think I could really pause for a long time and be happy using what I have.
    I’m finding it so hard to keep myself from getting just one more because the sale is good, or the frags are discontinued or limited edition and I don’t want to miss out. I’ve unsubbed from most influencers but I still want to watch and it feeds the urge for another fragrance. Ledda is a good example. Argh! I am out of control.

    You can buy the Amouage Attars in a sample set. It was my purchase for my Christmas splurge this year. They cost $200 USD. I got $50 off for Black Friday. Each one is tiny but you literally only need one dab. My favorite is the rose attar. This year was a major slow down on purchases for me. Loved your journey this year! Omg, I cannot believe your no buy year is almost over, time really does fly! I am a bit uninspired at the moment, maybe because I bought many fragrances this year on an impulse and sold or swapped a good amount of them after a short period of time. This leaves me with a bittersweet taste in my mouth, I was able to get my money back (or new perfumes that are better to me), but I'd love to stop for a bit nonetheless and enjoy what I have. My current collection is made of about 36-37 fragrances plus some 10 ml bottles/decants, but I already feel overwhelmed sometimes. I don't have a real wishlist, now that I think about it, maybe just Belle de Grasse from Fragonard that is a wonderful mimosa (I love mimosa flowers!) and also quite affordable thankfully.

    Hi Cherie! I have worn Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier for many years, many many moons ago. Sadly they are no longer available in the Netherlands. I loved Eau du Gantier (a light fruity floral, fresh, not cloying) and Or des Indes. The latter one is soft, sweet, woody. If I remember correctly it doesn’f contain flowers, interestingly. You might enjoy Or des Indes as you enjoy amber/vanilla notes.

    Now you are getting to the end of your no-buy I am wondering how much of a dent you have made in your collection. How many perfumes you have used up or made a significant dent in? Maybe in relation to the size of your collection, I really don’t know (are you on Fragrantica?).
    I wanted to do a low buy this year and that failed epically. Oh I really need to stop buying, I currently have 7 bottles on the way. So you are an inspiration, I just wish I could muster the will power. Btw. Material is a recent addiction to my collection and I love it even though I really didn‘t like it at first when I got my sample. I then bought the Dua dupe for it and fell in love with it more and more. I then revisited my sample again and ended up buying the FB. Funny how our nose changes.

    • @TheTopNote
      @TheTopNote  Před rokem

      I am on Fragrantica! But it’s a bit out of date I’m afraid - I still have bottles from 2020 that I haven’t added in there yet! I’m a bit sporadic on that front. TBH willpower is hard when you are being bombarded with information and sales etc. one method I had to cope when I was feeling like I needed XYZ perfume was to stop and think about the reality of whether it was really going to be as perfect as I imagined, and/or, go spend some time with my bottles, re-smelling them - especially ones that had similar scent profiles and just reconnect with the things I already had and why I loved them.

    Hi Cherie! I’m taking a quick break so I don’t forget my thoughts….😉ok….
    -I have a soft spot for Initio also. I think you would like Paragon. In fact I just wore it (lightly) to a Pilates class. It’s very calming and contemplative. I bought Psychedelic Love because of you and I adore it.
    -Soleil Passion will be too sweet and fruity /musky for you. I enjoy it but it be shocked if it’s a “Cherie” perfume. 🥰
    -You will not enjoy Babycat. The vanilla will be too sweet even though you probably will enjoy the dry leather in there.
    -Liis Bo I think you will really like because the vanilla is not sweet at all…it has a gorgeous woodiness and I can’t remember if you like incense but the frankincense is gorgeous. They have a lovely discovery set and there are a few others in the set you might enjoy as well.
    -I ADoRE Misfit. I need to wear it in the warmer months….why I’ve been only wearing in the cold I’m not sure. 😉……ok. Back to the video ….😍

    From MP et Gantier I only tried Bahiana some years back. I remember I liked it but it was similar to Batucada from L’artisan. It has similar vibe. The Ambre Precioux should be their most famous. YSL Babycat was such a disappointment for me. The leather was very strong on my skin and was a bit sickly. So a big pass for me (I’m planning to get Trench instead 😊). I own a big bottle of L’eau d’hiver and am half way through (got also 30ml backup on sale last year). I absolutely adore it and it smells very unique as a musky fragrance. Amouage Memoir Woman is great, too. I have tried Material but I didn’t like it (maybe i need to retest more on the skin). From Dusita I only like La Doucer de Siam from the ones I tested (I’m not a big rose fan but I really like this one). Oh yes, and Possibilities from La Perla is just great. I looove the drydown of it. It is pure magic, absolutely worth all the hype. And rose is not my thing as I mentioned but this one is so beautiful. Still waiting to find a 30ml bottle on a better than retail price. Great video as always! (I don’t mind long videos, I can listen to you talking about perfume for hours, even though we don’t have exactly the same taste!) - exception being e.g. Absolute Aphrodisiac which I really enjoy, too.

    Oh Cherie this was a wonderful video ! ♥️ you are a big teacher of mine and I really love these chatty videos.
    Side note: for Babycat, just test Vanagloria by Laboratorio Olfativo. Dominique Ropion created this one as well and few years before the YSL one. It is 99 percent the same… regarding these practices, I am still amazed how it is possible that perfumer can create two identical things for two brands. It would be interesting if someone knew how this can work from the perspective of the first brand… Is it because the first brand could not pay such a commission to secure the originality of the scent ? Is it because when it comes to fragrances, you can’t secure rights properly ?
    If someone has some sources about this, I would be happy to read or hear more ❤

    • @TheTopNote
      @TheTopNote  Před rokem

      Oooh thanks for the tip re: Vanagloria! I know, I have often wondered the same thing. Perhaps it comes down to what the brands are actually buying/licensing when they commission perfumers.

      I’ve tried both and I like Babycat more, but definitely 70-80% the same. The pineapple in vanagloria makes it smell like a plasticy version of Babycat to me. Also, Navitus Raised Spirits is very similar to Babycat to me without the suede. It’s an extrait and more affordable and it’s the same perfumer as well.

    Hello Cherie,
    I was so happy to see the theme of your video. I am sure I wasn't the only person to wonder what was on your wish list. The 'to try' sample list was interesting too. I happily watched your entire video, the 36 minutes went by quickly. I sampled Material last January and found the wood notes to be forward on my skin in the dry down. I don't think about it being vanilla in the traditional sense, because I don't remember it being sweet at all. Which is a nice change from other fragrances. I don't own it, but would love to sample it again sometime. It would be fun to see you do another sampling video with Pep sometime. I hope to see you do more fragrance comparison videos because I enjoyed those ones you did earlier in the year. I think it helped me make the best choice for me. (Love, love, love the Bengal Rouge!) I am looking forward to when you reveal your Christmas gift purchase. We got to see the box, but fragrance inside is a mystery. 🤔.
