    i dont understand the hype around this browser. vivaldi can do all of this for years now. the only thing im not sure is the separate profile and the archiving feature.
    vivaldi can do workspaces, split screen, taps anywhere you want, note taking, rss feed, email client and a boat load of other things i dont use or remember. essentially it is the spiritual successor of opera before opera switched to chromium.
    oh and its available on all platforms including mac.

    This is very similar to Firefox with add-on Sidebery, which moves the tabs to the left and allows nesting and folders, and renaming of tabs, and very easy yet deep customization. I think Arc is a step in the right direction, but Sidebery does more. Put anotherway, Arc is a dumbed-down version of the Firefox+Sidebery combo. Workspaces is similar to containers in Firefox, a functionality that is easily accessible through Sidebery.

    Does this browser allow full-screen/scrolled screenshots like Firefox? In the rare times you need to print a webpage or export it as a pdf, does the printed website or pdf look exactly how it does onscreen or does it look broken? Some websites look bad when printed or exported as a pdf. Are "Boosts" the same as extensions? Are there third-party extensions available? How does it handle CZcams and videos embedded on other sites? Does Arc have a "Reader" view like Firefox and Safari? What happens if you have so many bookmarks that they push the New Tab bar down below the browser window preventing you from seeing your tabs forcing you to scroll? Also, some people may have hundreds of bookmarks and folders so I don't know if keeping them all on the side with tabs will work for them. We'll have to see. I'm definitely intrigued by Arc. Thanks for the excellent review.

    I tried arc for a couple of weeks, but I felt like I was forcing myself to use it. the sidebar was frustrating. I also heavily use multiple websites that have sidebar menus - so having to deal with the arc sidebar along with a sidebar for a website was just too much real estate being taken up. And yes, you can toggle off the sidebar and hide it, but I just felt like I was spending too much headspace and just trying to manage the sidebar.
    I wasnt a fan of the Split View option, so the alternative is putting 2 arc browsers side by side, just like you would do with any browser when you want 2 tabs next to each other. The problem is, the 2 sidebars from each browser are just too much and in the way.
    I really tried forcing myself to use it because I did like it, but the sidebar just is not it for me. If they had a top bar, I do think I would make the complete switch over it, but it seems like that will never be an option as the sidebar is what makes it unique.

    I thought Arc would be good because it has personalization.
    Unfortunately, it doesn't offer enough space for bookmarks. And it puts everything in a sidebar -- exactly where it shouldn't be.
    Let's hope something better comes along.

    I've been using Arc for a few weeks. It's pretty good and all but for a few things I still need to use Chrome, like for making real bookmarks. Arc sidebar is not really great for bookmarks. The app is geared for archiving every site you visit but bookmarking. But I couldn't get used to that. Always easier to find a bookmark in a specifically named folder. Also Arc bookmarks and tabs or whatever the are always loaded. It's like having a lot of tabs open on Chrome. It was making my old Macbook heat up and the fans go crazy. Chrome doesn't do that even with a lot of tabs open. So ultimately I'm not seeing any benefit of using Arc so far. A bookmark-less browser is ultimately less useful, it seems. Unless you can get used to your tabs going away automatically and always checking the archive to see what you weren't finished with. And if you're pinning all your "to do" tabs so Arc doesn't remove them, then you've defeating the whole purpose of such a browser.

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  Před rokem +1

      To answer some of your concerns - you can find all bookmarks/archived tabs though the command palette, you can also set it so that tabs only get archived after 30 days through Arc's settings. Also, tabs are *only* loaded if you open them. You can pin tabs and keep them closed. But If you do have a lot of tabs open on Arc the ram usage naturally increases, same with every other browser. It's not for everyone and it takes some getting used to but after a few months now I have no desire to use anything else :)

  • @WAITWHUT-wl2uj
    @WAITWHUT-wl2uj Před rokem +1

    Archive = web history, split screen but you need to turn off tab = chrome can turn full screen using shortcut or just single click, multiple tabs in a group = chrome already has it, peek other tabs without activating it = chrome has this feature long ago, the only thing that everyone wanted in a browser is automatic ad block. The media is kinda a privacy red flag.. bruh, the browser just defaults to access your pc.. the moment I see the arc pricing, instantly I'll stick with chrome..😂

    • @shaunpatrick8345
      @shaunpatrick8345 Před 8 měsíci

      Brave has automatic ad-blocking, and you can have vertical tabs too, with pinned tabs and tab groups arranged the same way Arc does. It's less pretty, but has more features such as bookmark subfolders and an address bar you can actually see.

    Honestly I think most people switching to Arc are Chrome users who never realized how much better Safari is now than it was a few years ago. I was a die-hard Chrome user for years, but switching to Safari was an insane upgrade. With its tab groups (which I use extensively) and the upcoming profiles feature, I feel like my Safari organization/workflow is very similar to what I'm seeing here. There are obviously things it can do that Safari can't, but I can't see myself using them, and I'm not optimistic it'll perform as well as Safari, and I highly doubt I'll prefer a thick sidebar to Safari's super slim top-bar. That said, I'm signed up to try. I was just as skeptical of Google's Inbox at first too and it was one of the best apps ever.

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  Před rokem

      I agree with you to a certain extent. I was also coming from safari, simply used chrome for the extensions that had no safari compatibility. But Arc has a few tricks up its sleeve over safari. It's also being really actively developed with weekly updates. Feel free to give it a try :)
