    Super job on the camerawork, thumbs up. Loved the burner on the low approach. I saw my first CF-18 demo in the late 1980s and this pilot is red-hot. Oh, and the reason the official designation is CF-188 instead of CF-18 is because the military database requires the extra numeral. But honestly, I've never heard anybody refer to it that way in person, not a pilot, not a maintainer, not a photographer, not an airshow announcer. It's a Hornet or a CF-18.

    I got in trouble with a couple of Generals when the F-18 came in. the British magazine Air International followed the progress from the YP-17 and YP-18 right through to the F-18. The heard me talking to someone on flight line at CFB Chatham about the F-18 and ask me how I knew so much about it and I told them the same place the Russians did in the magazine. They couldn't believe it and I showed them the latest story on the F-18, that was back in 1983.

    People always like to take the piss out of the CF-18 and the RCAF. But y'know, the CF-18 may be old but it still can kick ass for it's age. Plus, it's being replaced in the near future anyway. The CF-18 has been going strong and has served it's purpose over the past few decades very well. CF-18 is a boss in my eyes.

    One of the more visible differences between a CF-18 and an ordinary Hornet is the night intercept lamp that is situated on the left side of the aircraft just below and ahead of the cockpit. Also, you will notice the fake cockpit outline on the bottom of the fuselage that is painted there to confuse enemy pilots during combat in not knowing if the aircraft is right side up or upside down; any distraction or uncertainty for the attacking pilot will help the other pilot to take countermeasures .

    Wittmann.....Awesome Video as always.......
    Airplane talks and comparisons are always going to exist!
    Now a well train pilot in a F18 or CF18 can kick anyone ass even if you are piloting a SU35 or F22 Raptor......Skills wins you battle.
    Canadian, USA, Israel, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, Brits and even Russia are among the best pilots in the word.....now again, I am sure that I will hear comments about people from countries not mentioned above telling us that their country produces the best pilots.
    Again I am basing my analogy on Skills, training and resources.
    Great video WM.....Get a job with the canadian forces :)
    Cheers
    Carlos

    Why are the afterburners so blue? All other fighters I see they appear more orange. Could the amount of fuel being introduced into the engine during the afterburn stage determine the color?

    • @cannack
      @cannack Před 10 lety

      many things factor in, tempature, amount of oxygen and nitrogen in the air, as you said fuel or mixture as they call it can also factor in, and humidity will effect the color

    • @SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL
      @SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL Před 6 měsíci

      They do look orange in the lower afterburner stages and get that blue color in the higher stages. It’s prb the amount of fuel being introduced bc a gas stove would be more orange if less gas is there to burn

    • @hoghogwild
      @hoghogwild Před 5 lety

      NO the CF-18 is based off the F-18 A and B legacy Hornet models, with modernization over the years. They run Link-16 and SNIPER pods nowdays. The Super Hornets are the newer E and F model Super Hornets larger version, but really a different jet than the legacy A through 4 models. The G model SuperHornet is a 2 crew F model rewired for the SEAD electronic warfare role.

  • @Bullock0099

    • @Gsmooth10455

    • @NCRF510
      @NCRF510 Před 5 lety

      So, there is such thing as and aircraft carrier right? Yup. And the need to stop a jet that’s going 170 ktas (knots, nautical miles per hour) on a 1500+ foot “runway” within a tiny period of time. So there are arresting wires (strong cables about an inch wide) attached to the deck, and the tail hook attaches itself to one of the wires and stops the jet from flying off the deck.
