    vespa 125 is actually the fastest but piaggio put a speed limiter so you won't lift off when you get to 300 mph

    Pedantic fun fact: the sr71 blackbird is STILL the fastest manned airbreathing aircraft on the planet. All 1960's engineering, paper schematics written with rulers and pencils and wing envelopes/aero profiles worked out in notebooks with mechanical calculators and it still hasn't been one-upped. The flight-manual listed method of missile defense was throttle, as it was nearly twice as fast as any missile in production at the time and it worked: in it's service life more than 4100 missiles were fired at it with zero hits. it's hard to fully wrap your head around what an insane human feat the creation of that plane was with the now-laughable resources we had back then

    • @JaxRhapsody
      @JaxRhapsody Před 6 lety +3

      Jon Sands There are videos of them out running missiles. One of the funniest things I've seen. Yet the Xmens blackbird is getting shot down and pulled out the sky almost every time it's flown. And I believe it's supposed to be the fastest blackbird in "existance". If you get my perspective.

      @@JaxRhapsody The X-Men Blackbird is going up against modern missiles, not cold-war missiles. The key words were "any missile in production at the time". Not "any missile ever".

    • @Gustav_Kuriga
      @Gustav_Kuriga Před 5 lety

      @@PeterKoperdan The MiG-25 was also meant for a much less stringent mission profile. It didn't need the range, nor the stealth aspects of the SR-71 Blackbird, meaning that the Russians were much less constrained in the design of the aircraft. It could afford to be extremely heavy even without weapons because it was never meant to have a long range, being an interceptor.

    • @PeterKoperdan
      @PeterKoperdan Před 5 lety

      @@Gustav_Kuriga Well, I I'm not saying that the MiG is better or as good. Just that it is an incredible feat of engineering when we talk about super fast planes and that it was achieved by the Russians.

    Hey man, just wanna say this is a super under rated video series. The way this was presented is really good. This video is Hella slept on and if you wish, I would like to see an third epaidoe which basically catches it up to date and discusses potential future fast bikes, both electric (as much as we may hate them) and petrol powered

  • @alloy299
    @alloy299 Před 5 lety +3

    From the point of view of the people involved (Japan and Europe) it wasn't about the 200 mph, it was the 300 km/h barrier, and Hayabusa broke it out of the factory. That why the government went "300 is enough, no more, stap. What's next? 400?". Bikes after that are limited at that speed 300 km/h, not >190mph. May sound like nitpicking but I find it to be quite important on a topic so relying on context. That's why it's so symbolic that the H2R broke 400 km/h for example.

      Yeah; Honda, Datsun, Mitsubishi etc were far more "liberal" when it came to the automotive arms race, compared to how ruthless they were with bikes.
      "We all agree to keep it friendly with our cars."
      "What about motorcycles?"
      "Fuck'm, we'll make a motorcyle that'll make theirs look like a scooter in comparison."

      @diavuno3835 Před 6 lety +1

      Remingtin I'm yet to see, but some 2000 Zx12s are not restricted. I'm curious if that would top a 99 busa. I know my 01 zx12 looses to a busa in a dig, but by the end of 1st I'm neck and neck.

    • @RemingtinArms
      @RemingtinArms Před 6 lety

      xavier stanton watch the video. If it was made by a Japanese company after 2000, it's limited to 186 per its stock configuration, which is slower than the 99 busa. Anything that isn't limited, like the h2r, is track only.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket Před 6 lety +1

      14R (1441cc) is generally quicker on a drag strip than the 1352cc Hayabusa. Yet top speed issues are still mostly a matter of restriction in the ECU. Theoretical gearing would let them run higher, even with somewhat extended redlines (ECU flash).

    europe "called the cops on the party next door", yeah because you actually are allowed to drive 190mph here on the autobahn. no need to regulate "potential" top speeds if it's illegal to reach those speeds on public roads anyway. my cousin had a lowsider on the autobahn when driving his Hayabusa at just about 180km/h in an attempt to avoid contact when someone pulled over into his lane without signaling or looking in the rearviewmirror. he luckily got away with some bruises, a broken rib and a broken collarbone. the jacket, trousers, boots, gloves and helmet he bought a month prior to the accident probably saved his life and/or prevented lasting injury/damage. he's still riding, bought a new bike (since the busa was totaled in the accident) and clothes from the insurancemoney right when he came out of the hospital.
