Things go from bad to worse on my second day with Chris. Landscape photography workshops should be fun but he's too busy obsessing over Mark Denney and Adam Gibbs.
In spite of his rudeness, I still manage to teach him some fun tricks for long exposures where he finally makes himself useful as a leaf chucker.
After some tense moments over a biryani and some garlic naans we almost come to blows but things improve greatly the following morning during a spectacular sunrise shoot.
A beaver has created a magical looking scene and I'm lucky enough to capture a portfolio-worthy image, some might say 'book-worthy'.
Just when my mood is on a high and I begin to warm to Chris he manages to insult me again with one final barb.
Will we ever work together again and does Amanda realize I'm filming her stealing my prized Twirl? What vile deeds were committed in Chris's sleeping bag last night and could you eat a dry naan?
There's really only one way to find out.
Thanks for watching

You keep asking me to press the subscribe button, you know I pressed it years ago, I don’t keep telling you to put the lid down on the toilet.
Yeah, what he said. I even pressed mine twice.
Of course not… that’s your wife’s job.
Duh perhaps he's talking to those who are watching for the first time 😉
Ohhhhh nice shot at 15:01, beautiful reflections!
cheers mate ;)
I think Chris should be a regular on your channel… the way he just stare at you, not laughing… it’s hilarious!!!
The Beaver Pond shot is almost like an old person looking in the mirror, wondering where their younger more vibrant self has gone.
Nice little idea that.
That man keeps a straight face remarkably well.
Time and time again you deliver Gav!! Nearly as much as mark and Adam it seems :-) the shot at 15 min was stunning mate 👏👏
Gavin and Amanda - You guys are an absolute scream!! And Chris with his Mark Denney shout out was brilliant!! Thanks again for giving us such a great laugh coupled with gorgeous photography! I want a curry now. 🤣🤣
😂😂Hhahahah - this was great!
Can I get a booking ;)
@@fototripper😂😂😂
I love how Chris found the composition, had the idea to toss the leaves in and then afterwards asked him what he learnt from you 😂
The final image at the lake is a cracker. Chris has got you with that stare, right through you, fair play that to man 👏👏👏
I was about to book you for a workshop but suddenly Mark Denney had a slot open up so I jumped on it instead. I mean, you're good but I couldn't pass up a real pro like Mark. Figured I might book you later in the year but then the 2018 landscape photographer of the year, Adam Gibbs, has some workshops coming up and I HAD to book one of those. Not sure there's anything you could show me after all that. Just kidding of course. If I had the cash I'd be all over one of yours. Of all the photographers I watch I really think you consistently outshine the others. Love your photography. The image of the reflection in the water is outstanding. Thanks for another informative and hilarious video.
The photography is a bonus compared to the humor great stuff
Gavin, those last images of the dead/living trees were absolutely stunning. They may be my all-time favorites of yours, including the ones you did a few videos back that featured dead trees coming up out of water. The reflections and the turned-around nature of the photos like these gives the mind a lot to consider. Beautiful!
Gavin, in that picture which tree/s have you focussed on? There's a clear V shape that is formed by the dead trees.
That last shot is perhaps my favorite of yours, ever
Hey guys. Hands down, Chris has the best poker face I have ever seen. Nice to know that he lives there as well. I am sure you will hook up again some time in another video. The Mark Denney comment was spectacular. Some really wonderful images taken. You nailed it with the comment about wondering what you are looking at. The dead trees and colour glow from the upper vegetation was just brilliant. The last shot has to go in your next book. Nice sneaky pinch with the Twirl, Amanda. Have a good week all. We are going through a very cold snap here in the UK at the moment.
Mark Denny: great instruction, and got me off auto. Mads Iversen: Mr smooth. James Popsys: The only landscape-street photographer hybrid guy. Thomas Heaton: has my first name….. You? The SNL of landscape photography. 😂😂
So... not very funny then?
@@fototripper much better than SNL. I look forward to your videos... I go to bed instead of watching SNL.
Calling Gavin the SNL of landscape photography is doing our man dirty! He's way better than SNL and he knows a thing or two about photography to boot.
Gavin, after watching your videos for years, I agree you are not a professional leaf chucker. But, I think you have proven over and over again, you are a professional chucker.
I’ve been waiting for this shot to come up in a video. Absolutely love this composition
Loved the episode! Thanks for sharing Gavin!
Stunning images - I love the roadside/out of the way kind of scenes. Thanks for showcasing these!
Man, I look forward to these videos. Gets me laughing no matter what my day was like. Thank you.
This leaf tossing into the scene reminds me of other photography workshops where they organise red yachts to sail past icebergs in Antartica, or majestic white horses to stampede through ocean waves, albeit on more of a budget and much more believable. Nice work Gav.
Dead trees, one of the best images I’ve seen for an long while.
Another great video! Love the photos plus the humor really makes the video enjoyable to watch.
Love these Workshop vlogs Gavin 🤙 especially love them tree shots!
That panorama... OMG. Beautiful!
Where else could I come for instruction, inspiration, humour and (most importantly) vocabulary expansion? 👍😁. "professional leaf chucker", "Streakage" to name but two excellent new words or phrases. Like the cascades themselves - my cup runneth over 😂👍❤️
All sunshine in Nova Scotia? Now I know where our Ontario sun has gone. Haven't seen it here in what seems like months. Another fabulous video, Gavin. Really liked the swirly leaf chucking result. Who knew dead foliage could be so beautiful.
I absolutely love the photos of the dead trees. A wow moment. You think you have big holes in your roads, one day I was driving around in one of our national parks when I went down into a hole. I drove around in there for a while before finding my way out. Hahaha
Some great shots around that waterfalls. The last shot of those dead trees is just out of this world. Absolutely tresmendous image 👌 I think one of the best I've ever seen from you. Great video as ever! Grt guido
Hey, if Mark and Grumpton are all booked up, you're next on the list! I mean after Michael Shainblum and Thomas Heaton... Oh, maybe Also Nigel Danson and Sarah Lyndsay. Then the amazing Gavin Hardcastle! hahaha. Great video! Beauty info and great shots. I really liked the reflection photo. It was gorgeous.
Nice, Calm, Awesome video and shots. Love these peaceful videos.. Thanks for uploading ...
Chris is such an inspirational photographer. Thank you for introducing him to us 👍😜
Great video Gavin! the images of the dead trees in the still water were stunning!
Cracking video and very funny as per. The dead tree shot is stunning! 👏👏
I love love the colors and composition of that last photo you took. Phenomenal! Your book is great too!
Thanks Chad :)
Wonderful as always Gavin.
Amanda,s face when Chris said he downloaded AG videos Priceless the shots at the start were beautiful ! but those from the beaver pond blew me away it was like fire and ice !! I said it before when you interview you dont its just a couple of lads having a chat love this approach ! lovely to meet Chris ! catch you guys on the next1
Apart from the mobile phone coverage, Nova Scotia sounds a lot like Tasmania . . . .. Loved that last image. Absolutely stunning.
That last panoramic is gorgeous! Wow, what a great find!
Absolutely love your videos mate. Lol great shots too
Here in the lower 48 I heard a story that you can approve a cell phone tower to be put on your property and collect royalties for life. Not sure if you can do that in Nova Scotia but worth looking into on your House/Church property.
He’s good with that straight face! And twirls make another appearance…
only one though. He needs some schooling from you regarding quantity.
It is an annoying when some of the best photo ops are just off the road with No place to pull over. Fantastic images as always & yes you & Amanda each deserve a bundle of adult sized twirl bars!
The beaver pond image feels like you caught two seasons. The current winter on top and the echo of fall that recently was on the bottom. Makes for nice color bands across the image as well. You should make a list on your CZcams about page of your favorite candy bars. Personally, I like Twix or Peanut Butter Snickers.
"Two way leaf blur" I must say I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos 🤣👍
Where’s the snow? I lived in New Brunswick 2 years (1967) and there was tons, I need a little reminder!!!
Just too funny!! I totally forgot what today's lesson was all about. I think it was how to show a poker face. Ha ha ha..
Love your sense of humour Gavin!
Great video from a fellow yorkshireman! Cheers Gavin!
love the humour in your videos lol
Love it!
Excellent! You're right about that final image it takes a while to work out whats going on but worth it. Interesting chat at the end. I'm afraid the evidence of Chris sharing the curry was on your moustache!
I like the shot with the dead trees and as if the ground is on fire. Well, done for an newbie photographer.
Quality, thank you for making me laugh.
You’re so funny! I really enjoy watch your videos.
OMG. The photograph with the dead trees just blew me away. That is not photography, it is artistry. You are a level above a photographer, an artist that creates masterpieces. I would buy that as a print in a second, so please let me and I am sure other followers know, if you sell any of your work online.
I do. Gerrin touch ;)
Thank you!
Great video Gavin.
Yep, cellphone coverage sucks everywhere in Canada. At my house (in Quebec), almost no cellphone signal but if I go to a big woodland park 15 mins north from my house, the cellphone covarage is almost perfect. Go figure...
Chris should feature more often, you two are goood together.
That shot at about 15:20 into the video is amazing. Something must be wrong with my CZcams, those two Northrup shills popped up as the next thing to watch. Jeezus.
😂
Hilarious!!! Keep up the great work!
Great video love the scenery lovely photos
beautiful last shot !
Beavercide is epic! Great video. So funny.
Excellent vid as usual, liked what you did with the leaves, and you definatly need to add in a clause in future workshops that the people supply you with full sized chocolate!!!
I like the sound of that.
my eyes aren't the greatest and looking at the title of the video in my feed, I made a double-take until I realised it said CLIENT
bravo. this was best telly this week.
Gorgeous locations as always!
Gavin, I think you should look into Nunavut. You'll be amazed with the gorgeousness of the terrain and landscape of that region.
i would
Best Foto-Kanal😂❤️
Nay, nay, and thrice nay! How many more times, I will NOT tickle your bell! I point-blank refuse! LOL
Another fun video. I really liked those flooded trees. Some interesting factoids about NS at the end. Few doctors? I'm surprised. I've always heard how great the Canadian healthcare system is.
Last: Chris has a great deadpan face. I look forward to more such shenanigans.
Well there's Canada and then there's the maritime provinces. We're an afterthought.
Those shots with the dead trees are fantastic!
The look on your face when offered a Twirl, priceless....
How many Twirl's does your tuition fee constitute?
You two are natural born actors, the faces you were making drooling over the Biryani were funny to say the least.
There's never enough Twirls. Soon it will be creme egg season.
Excellent......
Dead trees pano shot is awesome!
The only thing worse than Chris and his poker face is Colin and his death stare. 😧 You bring out the best in people Gavin.
Thomas wouldn’t stand for this from a client - sort him Gav ! Great video - have fun 🇬🇧
The pano is panogasmic. I think it would also be interesting as a square focused on the centre tree.
Agreed
Don’t know what I’m looking forward to more, a video today or NFL playoffs!!
Adam Gibb!!! what the heck is going on? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
How does he not laugh at the stare down?? I love it.. you remind me of my pantzer the wonder cat.. he watches me eat 😂
watch the bloopers ;)
Don’t know how Chris kept such a straight face…I’d be useless at that 😂
Streakage?
And, so I understand, a photo expedition with Fototripper will make me an impressive tosser?
Riiiiight.
14:25 and 15:25. Not too shabby.
Had a wee accident with my coffee when I thought I heard a deeply personal admission, "a phallus between life and death". 🤣
I was wondering when Beavercide would finally make its appearance in a video. That's such an awesome photo.
Thanks. It's a personal fave.
that composition @13:00 beautiful!
Very enjoyable. Poker Face Chris was a natural in front of the camera.
Always enjoy. How's the church rebuild going? The Beaver pind shot is stunning.
Just as well you are not a spy, Gavin. All the interrogators would have to do is wave a twirl in front of you.
Yes, Mark Denney is very good. 🤣
Being given an economy sized Twirl… is a sign that the world economy really is in the toilet. It’s akin to being given only one Cadbury’s Mini Roll with a cup of tea… or similar to those times when your partner takes your Kitkat and breaks herself off half, without even asking… all the while knowing there’s a multipack of unopened ones sitting only a few yards away in the snack cupboard.
Great content as always with another decent cameo from Chris. Consistency and quality in both the photo results and in the compelling video diaries.
What the hell? Beautiful. Love the moment at 11:36.
Wow! Incredible shot. The first one was good, but the log in the middle left of the frame was distracting me from the reflection and upsetting the balance a tad. The end result was absolutely gorgeous 😁👌. You know how they say that someone's painting looks just like real life? This made real life look just like a painting adding further to the mystery.
That last image was really nice.
Growing up in the UK I used to drive on the left , now living here in Canada I drive on what’s left!
baboom ;)
@@fototripper hey Gavin, I know you like to keep some locations secret but would you be open to sharing the two on this vid? Heading up there with the family in July. The scenes might be a little different then but if we’re close by I could give ‘em a go. Thanks!!
Wonderful video and shots along with some great ideas, Gavin! Question, do you ever put out little cones (orange) or have anything to offer a hint of "hey, I'm here", between you and the oncoming traffic? I do a lot of Roadside shots and it can be quite dangerous as well as keep you from a shot you'd love to have because it feels very iffy!
My middle name is 'iffy'.
I too like twirls dipped in Scotch HNY to you and Amanda soo scrumptious.
never get between a man and his curry, nan bread has been cited as the murder weapon in many a scottish court hehe, ps. those photos of the beaver pond were out of this world, just jaw dropping, would be wonderful mural sized because its stunning as an abstract when youre too close and just wonderful as you get further away.
Wow. I don't think any other photographer could do what you do. You find an expert photographer, get him to pay you for a lesson and then take him out and you learn composition from his image locations, all the while, he is paying you. And,... he even provides snacks. Yep, you are one of a kind, Gavin!
