Excellent decision. I, too, invest with vanguard.
Yay for us! 😊
Your Chanel in the Beige Clare is beautiful. But I so get it. I guess if you think
About selling your bag more than once, I guess it would be a great idea. You definitely still have beautiful Chanel bags.
This is giving me a wake up call. After collecting Chanel for ~10 years now, I'm definitely starting to have repeats that I honestly don't need.
Love that you place all of the proceeds in an index fund! I think that's totally awesome!!
Glad you think so!! Yay for index fund fans!
Your wisdom is so inspiring. It's very tempting to keep the bag in your collection just for the sake of it, but you went ahead and made the decision in order to put your money to better use. This is one of the many reasons why I enjoy listening to you, I always learn to restrain myself from making rash decisions and to think things through. Looking forward to your next video! 🥰
I need to sell some of my bags too but I have no idea where to sell them 😢
I love what you said about not wasting more energy thinking about if you should sell or not sell. I’m the worst at letting bags go. But my collection is getting out of hand now, and I have NO SPACE left 😅 there are definitely bags I have not used in over 2yrs that I have thought about multiple times about selling. So I think it’s time to finally do it! Thanks for this video x
Smart lady! I am keeping my beige clare with SHW because I just got it last year.😃 You are right, silver keeps it casual. I like to wear mine with off white, casual outfits and trainers.
Wise!! So happy to have you in this community!! ❤
Aw thank you for saying that!
Totally made sense! Bravo!
Thank you!
Love this! Wonderful way to allocate funds.
Thank you!
Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate it.
Thanks for sharing your perspective about wasting mental energy.
Completely agree Hanna, that’s why I sold my Trendy Cc, same colour 😘
Oh was it the same color? Interesting!
You made the right choice. VTSAX is one my favorite vanguard stock.
Yes with the mental energy some things take! Even if you remove “handbag” from the sentence, it can definitely apply to the many things we contemplate on. Love what you ended up doing with the funds.
Thank you, great point!
The "whoooo" was too cute lol
Love that you invested! That's always the cost analysis I do...
Oh Hanna, you inspire me with your bag collection. I'm selling 2 gucci bags. I don't have a big collection of bags, but I aspire to have a collection of bags I only love.
Good for you! It’s a whole lot more fun when we keep what we truly enjoy! 😉
@@hellocatwalkcityyes, bags that we enjoy and that suits our lifestyle. I was guilty of keeping bags for certain occasions 😅
I love this for you. So smart. You are inspiring. I am so happy I found this channel😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much!
Yes I agree that a bag like clothing or shoes have to feel like “me” when I put it on because style is so personal.
💯
🌹🌹🌹
Good choice of keeping the vintage black medium CF ❤ I like it better than the beige clair
Congratulations , good for you.
You have a dream chanel bag collection ❤Thsnks for sharing
Woohoo🎉🎉🎉
Vanguard, I use it too.
Very wise decisions.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Good Job Hannah!!
Thank you Corey! It feels good to let it go.
@@hellocatwalkcity I'm glad you sold it when you weren't using it. Your action is inspiring. It's important to let go of things we don't use. You can always buy another bag in the future, even if the price goes up. Remember, you matter the most.
Great video. Can you give an update review on the wear of your Poléne bags. I'm interested in the polene numéro nu nano, so I was wondering about the wear since you've had yours for over a year. Plus, you have not talked about that brand in a while. Please review if you can. Thank you in advance ☺️
I actually let my Polene Numero Un bag go in a giveaway. You can see the full review video here - czcams.com/video/9soJF5QLoEs/video.html I do still have my Polene Numero Neuf Mini and Numero Sept bags, which are both holding up well. You might’ve seen both bags featured in my recent videos.
i’ve sold a number of handbags for the same reason - because i thought they aged me - could be the size or the color or both. one of them was the chanel single jumbo flap which i agonized over as you can’t get that back. it looks great on me in my 20s, but now i’m 40+ and it was not working with my wardrobe anymore. as long as the proceeds are used wisely, upcycling the asset is a good idea.
How do you report the gain from the sales proceeds on your tax return assuming you made a profit on your bag?
I feel the same about the beige claire. I have the woc & have thought of letting it go as well. Tfs 💜
Just really a sensible approach and if something doesn’t make you feel fabulous then let it go 💖
I guessed right! Still a lovely collection(:
Congrats 👏🏼👏🏼
I knew which bag before I watched. 😉 I also recently sold my Chanel mini. I’m investing that money, too!
👏 👏 👏
The right choice❤
I'm a Vanguard Admiral Index fund girl too!
do what best for you and happy for love your bags
Everything you said about the bag makes perfect sense and if you don’t love the way something looks on you than it’s time to mo r on from it 💜 love the pieces you still have
Thank you!
I totally agree with you on having to sell your bag. You have to love it and enjoy using it, but if the feelings are not there, than it was the right decision to sell it. It's a wonderful idea to invest your funds as you will probably get a better rate of return. Thanks for showing us.
I think this is a smart and sensible move. 👍
I often have a similar problem where I think something looks great on someone else and then it just doesn't work for me.
I guess we don’t know until we try!
I wish you could tell us how much you sold it for so we'd have an idea. Maybe a range? All this sounds great but I can't grasp the concept without knowing a baseline.
❤❤❤ I can totally understand you. I get that certain pieces of clothing in certain colors or handbags can not compliment your skin tone. It took me 45 years to see that silver ages me and gold brings out my skin tone soooo much better. Good for you! You do whatever you feel. 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oh yes! Certain metals definitely have that effect too! I know what you mean. Thank you!
Great video. I like your rule that if you’ve thought about selling/ letting go 3 or more times it’s probably time. Going to give it a try. I vacillate for too long on that stuff. And I’m with you on silver hardware too 😊 Your collection is beautiful!
I had to draw the line somewhere! 3 seems to be a good rule of thumb!
I have the black jumbo with GH caviar, medium beige Clair GH caviar, 2.55 224 black with rethinium, and a trendy cc WOC (when it comes to flap bags). I loveeeeeee my beige Clair and will never let it go! My hubs gave it to me as his first chanel to me so it’s sentimental lol. But even without sentiment, I love the beige clair❤, but I love caramels, the blacks, the all chanel 😂
I had a feeling which one it would be but I did hold my breath at the end 😂 and phew 😮💨 the silver and black stayed. Makes perfect sense that bag was not meant to stay given all your reasons.
Thanks for sharing my lady, I have no desire for luxury bags now, Bag peace. 🙏🏼❤️😘😘😘Sandy
I agree with you that particular shade does look old and I agree it is the amount of yellow in it. Yes it was gorgeous but I could see your point😊
Thanks for validating what I was feeling! 😉
That is great idea. invest your money chanel bag
I completely agreeing with a bag making you feel look more mature. I had a bag that made me feel that way and I’m hyper aware of that because I get confused with being my husbands mom from time to time 🤦🏻♀️😅 So I’m super picky now.
Oh wow!! I would not appreciate if a bag made me look like my husband’s mom. No no no 🤣
Would love if you did a video about how to invest in the stock market. I’m currently studying about it and would love to hear your wisdom/experience on it.
Love it! Congrats on the sale ❤ I too am currently selling one of my Fendi bags that I bought preloved and it just didn’t suit me when I got it home.
Good luck with the sale! 👍
Tote bag is comin bag strong.
Love your questions you asked yourself about whether to keep or not. I may use some of them as I consider my own collection. I have bought bags where I loved the bag itself, but when I’d wear it just didn’t quite feel like me or my style. I am also curious why you did the investment in chunks?
Those questions helped me to methodically think through my decision without getting emotional. 😉 As for investing in chunks, I tend to do that to offset any unusual turbulence that might be happening in the market on a given day. It’s called “dollar cost averaging” and it’s a fairly basic practice that many investors use. In general, I spread out my stock buying in this way with monthly auto investments set up. It also removes the emotion/excitement/panic that often throws people off their game when investing. Hope this helps!
The Chanel classic beige clair color is one of the most difficult to wear and I agree can feel a little bit grannish 😉
I kept thinking, I think it would look great if I was a blonde with blue eyes! But I’m not that person. 😅
@@hellocatwalkcity 😅 I am blonde with blue eyes and it doesn’t suit me either ! I have bought an ivory one with light gold hardware instead and never regret it because it goes well with greys, all kinds of blues, light pinks ... and I have chosen silver over yellow gold for my black one ! Looks like we have similar tastes 😊
The shadow adds halloween vibes love it haha
So funny! 😂 🎃
Smart girl! Invest that money!
Hi Hannah. I agree with you regarding not spending any more mental energy on a bag that you clearly don't enjoy anymore. What's the reason for splitting up the money instead of investing it all in one go?
There's several financial pluses to split up an investment...one of which is...if she needs to access a quarter of the funds, if it went in separately, she will only get any penalty or handling fee (I'm sure there are proper terms for that) on just the portion she's withdrawing rather than on the full amount.
I invest using the “dollar cost averaging” method where I set up auto investments on a weekly and monthly basis so that I’m not tempted to “time the market” or make emotional decisions on a random day when the market may be acting strange. It also helps to offset any unusual turbulence that might be happening in the market on a given day. I don’t withdraw the money I invest in index funds as they are ear marked for the future, so I just take this auto pilot approach. Hope that makes sense!
Why??😮
May I buy your preloved chanel bag?
Oh I’m not selling the other bags dear - at least not at the moment 😅
See, my goal was inspired by you: "Be grateful for what you have and let go of what no longer serves you." in this case, your bag 🥰
I would have sold the same bag from your collection.
Not gonna lie, I’ve been here!
I sold 3 handbags and 2 of them are in the beige color with gold hardware 🤣(YSL small loulou in beige, and Channel WOC in beige). I wear a lot neutral colors. So I thought I would like using these beige color bags. But I barely grabbed them. Therefore I decided to let them go. And I am not regretting it.
Loved it! You definitely still have stunning Chanel pieces! I would have bought it from you though if I knew you were selling the piece… 😅
Aw thank you! I thought about selling it here on my channel but I’ve been traveling quite a bit and didn’t think I could manage the back and forth communications so decided to rely on my friend Elma. She made it so easy! It saved me a lot of time so I’m thankful and I’m glad the buyer is happy.
I’m still on the hunt/lookout for a mini rectangle flap but I want it in caviar leather. I wish Chanel will recreate these pieces again. The buyer definitely has to be happy. It’s a stunning piece! 😍🥰
Congrats on your newfound feeling of lightness! I was one of the people who voted that you downsize your Chanel collection, so I approve. Also love that you didn't buy another bag thereafter. May I ask, is it possible to contact Elma to sell a bag outside of Instagram? I don't have an account but would like to see if she might sell for me.
Thank you! You can contact Elma directly through her website elmadavis.com
I decluttered my Chanel collection thinking I’d keep 3-4, ended up getting rid of em all except for the black medium flap. I realized it was the only one I really liked 😬
Oh wow!! Good for you! I can imagine how freeing that felt. 👍
Absolutely love this!!! I’m having a moment of mom brain and can’t remember, but have you sold your Dior bag yet?
So funny! I feel like I have mom brain all the time!! I still have my Lady Dior. I tried to sell it but something always came up so I paused but that’s probably next to go! 😅
This is the same bag I sold at the RealReal in 2019 because I hardly ever used it. I have regretted it many times. Didn’t fit my sunglasses case. But I still wish I had it.
You need to be happy with your bags. Have you ever had or heard of the black lambskin bronzing in places? I’ve also had the same thing happen with a LV black epi pouchette and a small black Gucci wallet. Thank you.
I agree, what’s the point of having these things if we don’t enjoy them, right? 😊 I’ve actually never heard of lambskin bronzing! 😯
I sold my beige Claire small cf as well! The color did not look good for my skin tone.. all your reasons were mine as well!!! I got the dark beige coco handle and love that color! Good job! And I’m not really missing it 😊
Oh sounds like we had the same issue! The dark beige tones are so pretty! Nice choice.
Hi Hana! You’re inspiring me! What app do you use to invest on your own?
Of course as all we here are handbag lovers we all want to have them all 😂 but the bags are things to use. And we have to use them with good energy. If you have any questions to yourself about bag - it is better to let it go. Recently I let go my Chanel Midium Classic double flap. No regrets. I have another Chanel bags I am happy with them 🎉
Exactly, well said!
Should donate the money brings true happiness and blessings
I donate monthly on a recurring basis to several causes - thank you. I agree, sharing and helping others is where the true joy lies.
Nice to hear btw comment wasn’t directed at anyone in particular as really none of my business 😘
@@andrew4809I didn’t mind the comment at all. Thanks for being here!
I panicked when I saw your ig story! I thought you sold ALL your Chanel bags!!
Oh no! 😂 Maybe one day but I’m not ready for that 😅
@@hellocatwalkcity my heart wasn’t ready for you to do that too!😅
@@MC-qj7sn😂😂😂
Beautiful collection! Smart decision to sell and invest wisely. We shouldn’t forget it’s not only about the bags…
Black Chanel WOC is on my list. Taking my time and will buy pre-loved. Lots out there. Love your 2 tone too. Do you use them much? I currently use a different WOC for errands. I go through phases…
I go through phases too and I grab the bag that matches my mood! 😂 But I am a huge fan of the WOC and the two tone filigree one is really fun. 😊
I have also been on the fence about selling my beige chanel medium classic flap for a while... your video encouraged me to sell! Reached out to guruedit today :) I am not enjoying the bag yet I cant stop thinking about whether I should keep or sell.
Oh wow! If you’re not enjoying it, I think you’ll feel quite light and free after you let it go. You’ll be in good hands with Elma!
😃This video resonated with me because I'm looking to sell bags that I feel are unlike me or that I've outgrown. I've been wanting to take any money from the sale to invest it in the stock market. The economy isn't all that great right now though. You have to really monitor your investments, including your IRA /Individual Retirement Account and 401k. It is important to have a discussion with your fiduciary and have them protect part of those investments and still play with some funds with markets being so volatile right now. Others may say otherwise but, it's your money. You have a say in what you can do with it. People say they wish they were rich. Many make the mistake of just taking on an IRA/401k without inquiring as to how those investments are doing every month, and not even every quarter/3 months, which is highly recommended. THIS was a great decision on your part! Cheers to THAT! 🥂
A handbag that doesn't match your skin tone is true! I loved a beige and baby pink handbag on its own but it didn't look great on me.
I feel the same about pink!! One time I was shopping with a friend and I tried on a light pink Chanel bag for fun. My friend looked at me and said, “wow that looks so weird on you.” 😂
The other day I was in Manhasset Long Island at the Apple Store and saw The Real Real store. I was tempted to go in but I said to myself you came to buy an iPhone 15, not a bag😊.
Yass! Good self control! 👏
How are you dealing with the tax implication when it comes to selling bags? In the U.S., the IRS is being more strict now and I believe the resellers have to report it? I believe you only have to report it as income if you actually made a profit from the resell. But I’m still apprehensive about it.
You are smart
Hi Hannah! Is that vanguard index fund part of a IRA or brokerage account? What can you do if you max out IRA Roth and 401K annual contributions?
Hi! It’s in a Vanguard brokerage account bc I’ve maxed out my IRA and 401k contributions.
I know it was a tough choice! All that matters is you knew that it was time to let this beauty go and now have made a smarter choice to invest 👏
I think I made it tougher on myself for no good reason. Letting it go was actually very easy! 😊
Double smart. Sold to invest and another movement towards a thoughtful handbag collection. But I gotta ask....have you sold the Lady Dior? 🤔 If you did, I must have missed the announcement if you made one. And I'm with you on Team Silver/Palladium/LGH.
Thanks! I posted the Lady Dior for sale but something came up with my latest buyer and then I never re-posted. That’s probably my next bag to go!
@@hellocatwalkcity Got it. Would love you to walk us thru that when it’s sold. The small Ultra Matte (preloved) is on my radar. Thanks for being so transparent.
Thanks for sharing! Great video. Just want to know where did you sell your Chanel bag? I recently had bad experience with Rebag for selling my bag.....
I shared the details of how I sold the bag in my video! It was through consignment and I shared the info if you’re interested.
Oh found it. Thanks@@hellocatwalkcity
It makes totally sense Hanna! I felt the same way with some bags, I looked at myself in the mirror and doesnt fit my personality anymore. We evolve and we change, I think its a normal process and we need to surround ourselves with clothing/accessories representing who we are now❤😘great video and love finances/investments too💰📈🤑
Thank you! So true that as we evolve, so will our wardrobe!
Is it weird that I was literally having a panic attack that it was the black medium classic, the filigree WOC or the gold mini square BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN SO SAD THAT I WASN’T THE BUYER?! 🤣 I covet all 3 of those (and think you have an amazing curated collection of Chanel overall).
Oh my gosh!! 😂 🙈 Well, good thing it wasn’t one of those then! 😅
I think you made the right decision. Good for you, it's much better to let it go if you're not reaching for it. When it comes to beiges and lighter neutrals you really need the right shade to make it work for you, hence I'm more of a jewel tone bag collector.
I never knew how tricky beige tones could be but I think you’re right! I love admiring jewel tones on others! They don’t work for me but they’re so so pretty!
Yes, i guess that correct, when i watch your Q&A. Was about to ask where your Beige Claire medium Chanel Classic Flap is. That was a beautiful color. I had that in small Classic and i love it so much. I know although Classic is not easy to use but i just one to keep it since i had only one classic. Trying to get my hands on mini rectangular but do not really see one that i love for now. Yes i do agree investing it would be a smart moved.
You guessed correctly! 😆 And I understand what you mean about your one and only. If it was my only Chanel, I may have kept it. It’s always more special when it’s only 1 and then the effect is diluted when you have more. Enjoy yours!
@@hellocatwalkcity yeah true but your collection is complete from work bag to evening night out and love your collection. Thanks, and yes i will enjoy mine, only 1 classic and 1 Chanel 19. Thanks for sharing 🤗😍
No spoilers here, I’m glad you did what you did with the funds! That’s definitely the way to go 😊🎉
That felt TOO real when you talked about it not suiting you. I feel that way when I purchase a trendy bag and I usually end up returning it.
I’m glad you can relate!!
I think you made the right decision. Your collection looks fantastic and balanced now. I'm curious why you decided to invest in the index fund weekly instead of the entire proceeds at once? Great video!
Thanks! Several ppl have asked me the same question! I generally invest on a set schedule - weekly / monthly to take advantage of “dollar cost averaging.” It helps to offset any unusual turbulence in the market on a given day, and also, it removes the temptation to try to “time the market” and make irrational or emotional investing decisions. All of my index fund investments are set on autopilot. I set it and forget it, since the investments won’t be touched for the a long time. But if you invest one chunk of money on one day all at the same time, there’s no offsetting for market fluctuations. Hope that makes sense!
Hi Hanna! is there a financial reason for / benefit in breaking up the investment into 4 payments rather than a one time transaction?
Hi. Yes I use the “dollar cost averaging” method to offset any unusual turbulence in the market on any given day. It also helps to remove the temptation to try to “time the market” by auto setting it in advance so set amounts get invested at specified times. Hope this helps.
