- For your listening pleasure, I present The Thing as performed by Phil Harris With Orchestra Conducted By Walter Scharf. (RCA Victor 20-3968-B)
Equipment used:
Technics SL-D3 turntable modified for 78 RPM
Shure M78S phono cartridge
Shure M64A preamplifier
Tascam DR-40 Linear PCM Recorder
Panasonic Lumix LX-5
The Shure M64A preamplifier was set to flat mode to prevent application of RIAA equalization as it would be incorrect for this record. This audio was fed into a the Tascam DR-40 as a line level signal. The proper equalization was applied to the resulting file using Audacity, an excellent and free audio editing program.
What a excelent sound for a 78, i didn't even knew they cuold sound that good!
This was one of my favourite songs as a boy. I have still got the record.
What a superb sound !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that has to be one of the cleanest copy s ive heard
daaaang...lol
a 1950's schellac, not often played and never with a steel needle...
You've done it. All I want in this world is to have a fully automatic turntable that plays at 78 RPM. I own this very turntable. Perhaps some day I'll be brave enough to do the mod myself.
What was Baloo doing on the beach in the first place?
I used to have this 78, could you please put the flip side on CZcams? It is the unreleased Phil Harris version of The Ugly Duckling song. You know the one by Danny Kaye.
@Mason Wyberg there might have been multiple flip side of the 78. Because I remember clearly hearing the ugly duckling song.
@Mason Wyberg the sad thing is I don't have that 78 anymore. The flip side you have is a very common song you can find to Phil Harris. But the ugly duckling I've never seen it released on anything else? I wish I still had that 78 because I've been a lot of people forgot he did that song a year before Hans Christian Andersen. Maybe even two years because the 78 came out in 1950 early 51.
