The movie was phenomenal and the music-wow! I can't comprehend that this was a lost thing. The footage of Stevie Wonder hammering those drums or Mavis singing with Mahalia- so glad I got to see it but that such magic could have been just wiped away is a scary thought. Bravo on the film.

SUMMER OF SOUL not only was fabulous for me but it also took me back to the year I graduated from high school and also reminded me of how my (100 % Lithuanian) boyfriend, later to be my dear husband, introduced me to Motown! I’m extremely grateful!!!🌹

The public access feeling / concept on this video involves a great interview. The other part of Seth's show is mocking news via comedy which is better done with an audience. It is possible to do both but I do appreciate this video more bc of the guest and subject.

I finally got to see it as it's now on Disney Plus in the UK - and it is incredible. I'm so glad it's been put together at the same time as being so mad it was locked away for decades and kept from the world. Especially to the community the festival was put on for. Questlove and everyone involved in this film deserve ALL the awards. It's something so beautiful and so special.

Despite only being a first-time director, The Roots’ drummer Questlove has already entered rarified air as one of the nominees for the 2022 Academy Awards. he’s nominated for Best Original Documentary for his debut film, , which captured the subversive energy and vibrant performances of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. The documentary is also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Film, an impressive achievement for the veteran musician.

I'm a very white guy but Soul Train was on TV Saturday mornings for so long that you eventually found yourself watching at least some of it. And it really hasn't been Saturday mornings since they went off the air. One of the broadcast channels in Chicago started showing old Soul Trains on Saturday morning for a while, and that was pretty cool.
