Join us every Saturday at noon ET for What Did Prince Do This Week? (WDPDTW), an interactive, virtual book club where we read Duane Tudahl's entire Prince Studio Sessions book series very slowly.
Beyond a book club, it is also a Saturday salon, echoing the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance and inviting discussions that delve into every aspect of Prince's purple world and music in general.
In episode #72 for Week 21 of 1984, De Angela L. Duff and Michael Dean discuss the 4th Annual Minnesota Music Awards. We will also be joined by Special Guest Andrea Swensson to discuss her upcoming books, Prince and Purple Rain: 40 Years, released on May 18, 2024, and Deeper Blues: The Life, Songs, and Salvation of Cornbread Harris, released on August 12, 2024.

Yes, I'll indulge to binge on ALL of the past shows I've recently missed. Been traveling and recording much; moreover, De Angela and Mike is always in my thoughts. Around 2002, Bilal came through to visit us (in Hell's Kitchen) during our former days at the music shop "One Love Records." Our lovely friend Beverly Bond introduced us that special season. Anyways. De Angela is the BEST for simply mentioning "Labelle" and Mother's Finest." Singer Joyce Kennedy is awesome!! Also, Labelle's song (Can I Speak Before You Go To) Hollywood" is classic. GREAT interview and show. Hoping to attend next livestream💜

I saw the syndicate poster on Andrea's book and thought it interesting selection, too. Among Japanese fams Mr. Jun Sato is famous for those localization treatments. He worked for Warner Japan at that time. He translated some song titles very well.
In this book I loved to read about Larry Williams on When Doves Cry MV shooting.

Speaking as someone from Alabama, I take offense of the statement that you aren’t precise in your statement due to being from Alabama. Being from Alabama has nothing to do with you not being precise. It really bothers me when people equate Alabama as being lesser than (be it educated, sophisticated, cultured or precise in speech). It reinforces those aforementioned views. And I’m not saying Alabama doesn’t have its issues. I love your platform and what you do every weekend but please be mindful of how you present being from Alabama to such a large and diverse audience

My intention was not to offend you or anyone else from Alabama. In fact, it was quite the opposite-I can communicate more freely with folks from the South more than anyone else.
Also, I would never belittle the state where I was born, but more than that where my grandparents were born, and ALL of my relatives and ancestors. I stand on the shoulders of AMAZING people, all from Alabama.
Those who know me personally know that I take great pride in being born and raised in Alabama. Before I'm Black. Before I'm a woman. I am Southern. But *my words are often misconstrued* because I am Black... because I am a woman... and because I am Southern.
However, thank you for letting me know that you took offense. Again, it was not my intention. Have a wonderful day!💜
