    As a professional artist, I would advise, NOT to spray water on to the back of the antique artwork canvas. In addition, NEVER put artwork/paintings in direct sunlight! I would take it to a restoration specialist for the mold issue, too. Also, why not have it appraised ...before...investing in restoration? Your videos are very enjoyable!! :)

    • @tigermoon44
      @tigermoon44 Před 4 lety +2

      My ex-husband who was a well known artist and many of my artist friends would occasionally use water on the back of canvases to re-stretch them. The age of the painting matters, the medium used and all of that is important to know if it is okay, but we did it and yes I did own a gallery and I did do it occasionally.

    • @impressionisticartist3886
      @impressionisticartist3886 Před 4 lety +4

      @@tigermoon44 I was addressing the "putting the painting in the SUN", issue...and if the painting needs to be restretched, as this painting had deep creases in the canvas, it should be restretched, not sprayed with water. Who would want to take the chance not knowing what mediums were used? Opinions vary.

    • @PntrGrl
      @PntrGrl Před 4 lety +1

      As an artist, one of my paintings was packed by movers with a wooden plaque against it which then made marks similar to your painting. It was ok with a little time and went back in place. Did you notice that the light hitting from your camera showed deterioration and cracking of the paint? Careful with that. It will peel off. Due to that problem, I would not put water on the back of the painting to tighten it. (You can do that on a painting best before you paint it.)
      Re the mold, professional should do it which is expensive. Using Q tips one at a time to gently clean. Keep it away from other items.

    Love the crewel work, I have done some myself and saw a rectangular pillow on the couch that is exactly like mine. There was an old sampler on the wall in one of your shots that might be worth a fortune. As a needleworker and quilt instructor and painter I think you need to go back and take a second look as those pillows alone are worth quite a lot. Consider the hours of work in a quilt and that green cross stitch and the crewel blanket you could make quite a hull. Just saying. Love your videos and as I am too old to go to flea markets and sales, I shop with you. Hugs.

      Dear Timothy, it's an earthly reference not heavenly and we know this because animals don't receive a resurrection but the Bible promises that after armageddon earth will be a paradise where the animals will all get along and the loin will eat grass like the lamb. Again eating is an earthly reference! So wonderful that you are thinking of God in this world! So study on this thought and see what you can find about it in your Bible.

      I have to respectfully disagree in part. If you've enjoyed objects for a life time and they've made you smile, they are priceless. Yes it is somewhat sad that some things go for less than you paid for, but if they were precious to you and nobody else, who cares? In the end they made you happier. That's part of why when I go picking I only get items that I would want to keep for myself. It might not be the best practice for a reseller, but it's authentic.

    I have been going to garage sales, auctions, estate and tag sales since I was 13 years old with my folks, then I started Goodwill shopping at age 17 yrs. and I am still doing this at 65 years young lol! I had antique booths at two antique market locations and set-up booths at flea markets, as well. I left home in my teens and did this to help pay bills...learned by studying books at libraries and if I bought something I knew was old, I would go into a local bookstore, find a book on the item and look up appraisal prices...I couldnt afford to buy that book, but it gave me a price range on what my item was worth. Once, I found an old big bushel style basket at a farm garage sale. I liked it so bought it for 3 dollars. I saw that it was signed by the grandfather of Longenberger Basket Company....sold it for 900 dollars! I was working for minimum wage of $2.10 an hour at that time, so I was beyond happy over that find! That is why I still do this...not all about the money, it is the thrill of hunt and of course...the epic finds! I married at 34 years old...my fiance had 2 plates, 2 mugs, a frying pan and one pot etc. You should have seen his face when I moved into his bigger apartment and "brought along" my 12 sets of antique porcelain and Depression era dinnerware, each service for twelve, including all serving pieces; antique linens; Victorian parlor furniture, oil paintings and GWTW lamps etc. lol! He quit crabbing about my hoarding and stockpiles of "abundance of stuff" When he saw that none of it was junk and over the course of that first year of marriage, I sold so much that I had raised $10,000 bucks to purchase and pay off 3 acres of land he loved. We built our first home there. Together, we enjoyed going to auctions and estate sales to find all the antiques for that home lol! He was an avid hunter, so everytime hunting season arrived in Fall, I would tease him and say, "Good hunting, Dear...but I bet I bag more than you do...I am going hunting at Goodwill lol!" My thrifting did better than our stock market stocks too!

    So you can spray water on the back of the painting to fix the bumps and warping in the canvas. When it dries it tightens the canvas. Depending on if there is a varnish on the painting the mold could be removed by a professional. If you have a local art gallery they may have professionals who can remove some of the varnish and fix it.

      very typical of the professionally handled estate sales in my area as well, many companies look up items on ebay, and everyone watches shows such as American Pickers, etc. I would have spent the money on several of the items that they purchased as well, it is hard to find good stuff now.

    Something I learned recently is that if there is a semiprecious jewel or colored glass in the center of an animal brooch, it’s not technically a jelly belly! The only real jelly belly brooches have a clear lucite stone. I’m not sure if there’s a special name for the other ones! I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you for taking the time to make them!
