I spray my braids with a conditioner/water/oil mix to soften and give some slip to the hair b4 the take down it has def helped my hair retain length and lose the least amount of hair possible, I’ve gone from shoulder length to butt length in 4 years with cutting inches and trims in between.
Do you braid your hair often like how regular you do it
@@cece3547 yes I usually where braids for 6-8 weeks and take a break for 6-8 weeks and then go back into braids again.
That’s a good tip
Thanks
That’s my daily or as needed moisturizer combo when I have braids. When I take them down my hair is soooo soft and manageable. I also don’t lose as much hair when I moisturize my braids vs when I don’t.
I love that not only are you a GREAT braider, but you care about your clients hair as well. As a braider myself I let my clients know I’m a braider but I’m going to provide you knowledge as well. This ain’t no play play 🤣
Where are you located?
Facts same I 100% agree too
Oh its growing. Just not as fast as you want it to. Be patient.
LoL
Yasssss. Nothing like water and some biotin too!
Okay! It's growing. Most of what's she's seeing (puffy roots) is from sweating anyways
No, it’s growing, but it’s also breaking faster then it’s growing.
Hell no is you don’t have enough vitamins your hair won’t grow , hence the poor kids and Africa and ask and hell even american all have very short hair because it’s the last thing to get nutrients
Length retention is always the problem with “protective styling”. The hair gets really dry and breaks off.
It literally makes me so happy when I see my sisters embracing their natural hair/beauty. Ever since I started wearing mine out, I never want to go back😭‼️

Facts💯💯
They just know how to do hair they don’t know how to work with the natural hair
Her hair was highkey also just dry and dirty before the braids came out. I still wash and moisturize my hair while in braids and never have issues detangling or retaining length
After I take out my braids I use either conditioner or coconut oil to detangle. It makes my life so much easier and minimal breakage. Also that little white buildup comes right off with steam. So after takedown and before washing steaming will melt that buildup away.
I made the mistake of not fully detangling. I seriously thought about cutting it all out. I took a deep breath and put a LOT of conditioner and it loosened everything. Praise God.
Same. I ended up detangling for 14 hours. Never again.
I dont use anything on my braids, i just oil my scalp with a light oil and spray it with a braid sheen spray for that shiny look
I do something similar !
I hate gel. Keep that stuff away from my hair
Ladies when you add gel to you edges and they create build up overtime let’s make sure that when or after taking them down we put either conditioner or spray water on it, so the buildups can soften up but with the conditioner it’ll become slippery and easy to detangle
I braided my hair left in in for three months , then another two months ..I recently started to get into wearing braids for protective styling.. my hair grew soo much ! I'm so happy ,I used three different oils and a cream that I used during the two months along with homemade aloe Vera gel serum .. it also grew my eyebrows.. one of the oils I got off a lady from the Etsy app 🤗

You can see growth at the roots. You can use a leave in to soften the build up to avoid breakage.
**I don’t understand how some people can detangle in the shower after taking down protective styles! My hair matted so bad so now I detangle before!! 🤯
I'd be in the shower for at least 2 hours
I do...
I do a ACV wash, then seriously moisturize about a couple days before taking out, making sure my hair feels freshly oiled
When I take it out I finger detangle as I take each braid out
I spray watered down conditioner in it
Then shampoo with ACV/baking soda, then dandruff shampoo then REDKIN all soft shampoo and conditioner in sections. I finger detangle while washing
When I condition I use a denman brush to detangle while conditioner sits in... I never detangle while my hair is dry
My natural hair is 18 inches long
Ambunu and fresh aloe vera is bomb get you some sis. Just make sure you strain the aloe first. You could find Ambunu on line. This combo is
I know they say our hair is weakest when wet, but I also heard that you should never detangle dry natural hair because it will cause breakage. Which one is correct?
Take a mirror and your brushes into the shower it helps me and part and section
Yeah um I don't know about anyone else but I want to see the rest of her journey!!
im on it.
This got me sitting here scratching my head 😂😂
Y’all also have to realize your diet plays a significant role in the growth of hair and nails including the condition of your skin and mental health too. Research foods that benefit hair growth including foods that have biotin in it like eggs and bananas if I’m correct. Also exercising plays a role as well.
I agree since i uped my water game n exercise encorprating more fruits n veg in my meals iv seen more growth
Factss
My mom did a big chop on my hair and braided it and took it out yesterday and I was so excited to take it out to see how much my hair had grown and when I seen it I was like OMG

To help hair growth: 1. Multivitamin daily 2. Drink at least half your weight in water ounces. 3. Moisture, Moisture & Moisture. Deep condition your hair after each shampoo. 4. Lastly, a clean scalp . Clean your hair with a moisturizing shampoo at least twice.
Well said!
Yes! Even when braided I wash my hair! My natural hair is down my back so I know this is important!
@@gh1990. how often?
You are absolutely right about using conditioner gel. I installed yarn braids with xtreme gel and 2 weeks later it was a crusty mess. So I ended up taking it out because I was scared of damage. Wish I saw this video 2 weeks ago. Thanks for the tips.
Great coloring skills ! I would call it strawberry blonde with platinum blonde highlights. When people say "blonde" you think of one shade but blonde has so much different shades. You can never go wrong with some blonde! Love it!
Hi Bray! Go Jasmine 🥰 I love watching take downs lol. I kept my knotless in for 2 months. I didn't have any breakage & my hair grew. Knowing your hair is key.
Girl spray water on it or some detangling spray with conditioner and to avoid any more breakage in that not it's just going to soften it up and you can comb it right out
never put water on matted hair. oil only.
no girlie hair is weakest when it's wet so you'll have more breakage. The natural hair community lied to us.
@@faithyayi that is not true and when she said it i said huh? Your hair is the weakest when its dry and brittle!!! You never detangle your hair dry
@@bleuhernandez7941 if she sprayed water, it could’ve matted up at the root where there is build up & she’s combing gently with a wide tooth comb.
Ok so imma try to break it down a little bc I want everyone to have long, HEALTHY hair...
When hair is wet the hydrogen bonds are temporarily broken. This is why it seems like it’s easier to detangle and seems to be the right thing to do but hydrogen bonds love other hydrogen bonds so when it’s wet the bonds are paralyzed. It’s easier to manipulate anything while it’s paralyzed.
Mechanical damage happens when you over-manipulate the hair while the hydrogen bonds are broken. Contrary to popular belief hair is strongest when it’s dry. Mechanical damage is what causes the hair to become brittle when it’s dry. This type of damage is more common than heat damage in the natural hair community.
Salt bonds make up almost one third of the hairs strength and are broken by solutions with different phs. Whether a product is too alkaline or too acidic, it has the potential to break the salt bonds. I just thought I’d add that in for those who swear by acv, rice water, etc.
While I’m at it ig I’ll add that curly/coily/kinky hair is only to be trimmed when the hair is dry. The cuticle swells when it’s wet. This is why people with straighter hair only get trims on wet hair.
I’m no scientist and I’m not licensed to do hair but I like facts. I hear this from so many frustrated professionals bc so many naturals rather believe lies than accept the truth. Look into it like I did, stick to natural products, keep up with your trims and learn proper techniques and your hair will flourish :)
Color is pretty. I also learned something watching today, I need to watch what kind of gels I use on my hair in protective styles.
We would like to see more take downs
yesss
Time consuming
YESSSSSSS SUPER important!!!!💖💖💖
In my experience as a stylist and doing my own hair it’s been better for me to detangle when hair is slightly wet also when I have build up I use a mixture of ACV and coconut oil and spray it on the buildup and rub it in until it melts away and finger detangle. That way I’m not combing/pulling our hair thats attached to the build up.
Hope this tip helps you and anyone who reads this ❤️
My hair grew fastest and longest with wigs. More so than with braids. I’d do like 8 single braids on my own hair under the wig. Box braids, twists, etc still cause a lot of daily pulling and friction in your hair. When your hair is laying under a wig it doesn’t get all that daily friction.
I noticed the same thing with my hair
I realised that braids are only protective from overstyling but wigs are the true protective style
@@MissRawrzilla yeah my hair grows/retains some length with braids but really gets long with wigs. Years of braids kept my hair around shoulder length. With wigs my hair got to be more like mid back length.
That’s crazy I just started doing the same thing my hair feels so much more relaxed and my scalp feels better too I was doing so much pulling with sew ins I couldn’t take it anymore 😩
@Bree Yah the one thing I can say them single twist and regular scalp braids and box braids will do the trick I’ve always thought being black that our hair is just rough and that’s not the case we have to love our hair and nourish it and take care of it like we do ourselves our hair is a lot more fragile then most so we have to be way more careful with everything

I love how happy she was after seeing her hair 😍💕🤗
This was a Very informative video on hair care thank you 💯👏💪
One thing that helps is working in sections and twisting or braiding the hair that you already detangled so it doesn’t retangle on itself
This method is very wonderful 😍😍. I have tried it before and it gave me amazing results from the first time🤩😘😍💃🌷. Do you want to try it? 💃🌷😍

I always think my hair isn't growing until I look back at my length pictures to see that it really is growing. Everytime I do a length check which is every 3 or 6 month's, I use my phone to take a picture so that I can compare my past picture's. I currently have my braids in for a month and I want it out. Lol.
My number one problem was washing my hair without detangling! Thanks for this video!
Woahhh her hair grew fast. Now I feel bad because I had this whole quarantine to do it and it could've grown by now but I was scared. Now 2021 around the corner and I don't have any time😭
I just started applying this method on my daughter's hair. She was getting frustrated her hair not growing. I hope to see a difference in the length of her hair.
First of all 611k! I get so excited watching your numbers rise, because you deserve it! Please drop the video of her color. I need full view cause it’s looking 🔥🔥 & thanks for the shoutout! I was on it deft that time.
I normally spray a little leave in conditioner and or put oil on it as well and it helps detangling all of that at the top.
I guess it just depends on your hair because it is also very damaging to your hair when you detangle while it’s dry especially after taking it out of a protective style and detangling your hair while it’s brittle and dry is not it ❌but I guess it just depends because I finger detangle my hair after a protective style while it’s wet in the shower with conditioner in it and it works for me just fine
I was thinking the same thing. I could never detangle dry especially after a month old hairstyle 🤯 I have to finger detangle with conditioner before putting any water on my hair and then I’ll rinse it out before I wash. I found it’s the best way to limit excess shedding and tangles. Everyone is different for sure!
When she's saying dry, she's not meaning literally dry, meaning with a oil that's specifically good for detangling
@@sianmoore1129 my hair would still be dry with an oil. The oil will just sit on top and not help me detangle anything. I have to use a creamy conditioner or my hair gets tangled. It all depends on the person
Yes! I spray my hair with a mixture of aloe Vera juice, oil, and water as I got through and take it down!
Same here...
Wow I just watched her first video when you cut her damaged hair again. Her hair has grown so long and healthy! Congrats Jasmine!
What I like about your channel is that u educate us on how to take care of hair while styled and after😊
Some people don’t know that if you get a protective style it does not mean you stop taking care of your natural hair while that protective style is in.
I make sure if I have box braids in that I’m washing my hair (box braids) every 3 weeks, oiling my scalp, spraying it with leave in. And being super consistent with my oils. Jamaican Black castor oil is my go to for growth. If I have to redo a few braids then I do that as well.
Her hair is so thick and beautiful 💜💜💜
This helped me sooo much especially since I’m always wearing braids
Two things I don't like about getting box braids
Getting them installed and taking them out
I like the middle process keeping them in and styling
Omg that’s jasmineeeee😱😁I’ve been waiting for this one😭❤️
the hair is fragile when taking out old braids. the best way to minimize dead hair, is using a water and a conditioner to detangle
Wow her hair really has grown... The shrinkage is real lol u go girl... Both of yall lol💜

Recently I started using water and jbco (when needed) on my scalp while I have braids and I noticed that my hair is soft and easy to detangle with minimal build up when I take it down
I really appreciate this video as it is very informative on properly taking down a PS. I kept my hair in protective styles for almost 3 years straight. I was careful when I took it down and kept my hair ‘moisturized’ and yes my hair grew but my ends looked a hot mess after weeks of being put away. SO many single strand knots which had to be cut out and I would lose any length I gained. Even after spraying with water and moisturizer everyday I got those knots. I got a spiritual revelation and Jesus told my heart to stop covering my hair and learn to wear it- so the easiest way I knew how was use wash n go’s. Ever since doing that my length retention has been crazy! Washing my hair twice a week and sealing it gives my hair so much moisture which is absolutely necessary for length retention in type 4 hair. Now my hair is bra strap length from collar bone length in 6 months! I use to have self-hate and hate my hair
but now I love it and get more compliments on it than in my PS days. If ‘protective styles” aren’t getting it for you- please try wash n go’s- they may be your answer. Don’t know who this message was meant for but I was moved to share my experience 🙂
thank you. what is your hair type please?
Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner did great wonders to my hair. I have type 4 hair
I love your professionalism and your cosmetology vocab sis! Its this for me! 😊💖👏🏾👍🏾
I comb each braid individually upon take down to reduce breakage.
I then add some oil to loosen anymore shed hair that was missed and then I rinse in the shower. The force of the water and the oil pushes out more hair and little to no breakage.
Yess see I knew those lil refresh videos weren't worth it. After 3/4 weeks I'm over it.
they need to be taken down at that point. all of those interlock and twisting mehods will cause more build up and potential locking.
That jam is the truth!!! It keeps my hair so soft for 8 weeks straight!
I've just been through the playlist of her whole journey. I am soooo inspired.
No I was distracted of the push and pulling ....lol in the beginning of the video....but I njoyed the information you shared
I cut three inches off my top of my hair so I'm gonna even it out and cut bangs when I take them down. I'm glad I'm not weak in the knees over a few inches of hair.
While you have you protective STYLING I always recommend my water and oil Mixed in a bottle this will help reduce the products build up try it next it helps trust me. Lots of my clients are love it.
Her hair have grown, can see the growth, enough for a month and a half.
I know the current product market is FULL of all sorts of new hair care things that catch the eye. Some of these new products have GORGEOUS labels with gold trim and sexy writing. But none of that compares to the tried n true shine n jam. Why do people want to cheat on shine n jam? Those other gels don’t love you like shine n jam does! Dont step out of line when you’ve got a conditioning, shiny, loving hair partner at home. Stay faithful y’all!

I saturate my braids with oil and let them sit at least an hour under a plastic bag before I take them down.
ill have to try that.
That actually sounds like a great idea. I detangle with oil.

you say the hair is weakest when it's wet but I say it's impossible to dry detangle. How do you retain length while not damaging the hair and breaking it off?
Yes we do still want to see her journey sis 💅🏾
i thought it was damaging to detangle your hair when it’s dry ?? am i tripping ooorrrr what ? like i thought you suppose to use some water and/or conditioner lol !!
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. Dry detangling doesn’t work well for me or my kids.
Yes. I like this youtuber, but she's tripping on this one
Have been following the series her hair is growing whole lot
Are you in Dallas? I need you to take care of my hair. I just love how delicate you are and caring
Me with 3ft long straight hair not needing to watch this video but she’s just so entertaining
Yes sis I would love to see more of her journal!
Those knots are also because the scalp was not kept oiled for the time she had the braids in. If you keep your scalp oiled Ampro styling gel or any other gel will be very soft; soft enough to detangle with your fingers.
Thanks for the suggestion but her scalp was moisturized weekly. The alcohol in Those gels really dry your hair out and should not be used even with oiling the scalp. Oil is not a moisturizer.
@@Dopeaxxxpana Wow, Oiled weekly?? That’s not nearly enough. If you use oil for your scalp with braids you need to do it every other day. Scalps drink hair oil. If you use hair grease, weekly is fine.
@@SweetCocoa214 i oil my daughters scalp with jojoba every 2nd day for that very reason and i seen a big difference! I also spray the rest of hair with homemade aloe vera juice!
@@SweetCocoa214 weekly as in its moisturized every week, I’m licensed , i know and have made it very apparent that i know how to take care of hair: drenching you’re hair in oil is not the same as moisturizing, if it works for you great ! I don’t need anyone to tell me how to do my job 👍🏾
@@Dopeaxxxpana where are you located? I need a lot of help with my hair
I normally use Nairobi mousse with a little freeze spray mixed in to fresh my braids up and tie it down, if i have a flat style, with Black castor eco gel for my edges. I have 3a/3b hair texture and that does wonders for me. Normally for my take down I go braid by braid for take down and detangle. It takes me FOREVER but this way I always retain all my length that had grown.
From about 12:40 - 14:15 it was the same clip of you getting the buildup out. At first I thought I was tripping, but 😂 idk maybe it was my phone lol
I’ve done this and retained length with 0 lint because i use tea tree oil to prevent build up along with other essential oil
