Do you remove privacy after finish feeding?
I finished my CNA course this summer and our instructor was horrible. She didn't teach us any of the skills, she'd just leave us in the lab with a packet and say, have at it. So most of the class just did nothing and sat around and chatted all day, but me and 2 other women were like, no, this is crap, we are paying money and she won't teach us. So we looked up your videos online and watched them on our phone and then practiced the skill afterwards. That's how we learned every single skill. No one else did that so no one else learned anything. SO GRATEFUL for your videos!!! I take my skills exam soon and I feel so lucky to have your guidance and lessons here that I can learn from. If our class took the exam just based on our instructor, it would be 100% failure rate. Thank you for doing what you do!!! Our tuition should have gone to you!

Wow , I'm so sad for you and your classmates . I recently tested in August my instructor was amazing to the point I'd say we were overly prepared. I ended up being the patient for 2 testing candidates who said thier instructor literally gave them the skills book and said practice she showed them nothing. While I don't know thier scores I don't think either passed skills. I so badly wanted to scream noooo that's not right but knew I couldn't interfere. One girl had changes client with affected right arm and she never took my gown off(put the shirt on over the hospital gown) Never washed her hands and never gave me a call bell. Nurse JARS videos are wonderful. I used them as a refresher before my test but they can be used to learn the skills just the same.
@@brittanyhernandez7924 thank you for your compassion. It was very frustrating to pay $1200 for a class where you were responsible for teaching yourself otherwise you learned nothing. She would show us some general things in the beginning, and she'd ALWAYS follow it up with "but don't do it like that during the skills exam because you won't pass"....ummmmm, ok.... She came in one day and dropped us off in the lab with the packets. We were supposed to be doing the bed pan skill for the first time. The students were wondering around trying to figure out what the bed pan even looked like of all the bucket looking things, because many have never worked in Healthcare or been around that stuff, so I walked down the hallway to her office where she was sitting and asked her if she could come back in the lab and show us how to do it and what the equipment looked like. She was like, "I guess if you think that would help." Yes that would help!!!! The students were very frustrated with her. Apparently this technical school I went to used to have a great reputation for their CNA program. I told my grandma, I would NEVER EVER recommend anyone to go there because it's a scam. They just take your money and don't care at all what you learn. Maybe it hasn't always been like that, but it was not a good learning experience. I signed up for the skills test a month from now so I'm going to practice 3 skills a day everyday and that should hopefully get me the practice I need to be able to pass. I don't want to be like the girl you were the client for. I want to know the skills the way I should. God bless you!

Sorry for your experience. Had a similar issue. Our instructor's equipment was old and she would fuss at us about using it and didn't want us really using it and she complained about using supplies so we had to act like we were using the supplies and we hardly had time to practice and she rushed through the material as she had classes back to back. We were in class for hours but she would say we would have to come in EARLY BEFORE class if we wanted to practice and didn't give us much time at all during class to practice. Many of us could not come into class any earlier than the class start time that was advertised. Then she would tell us we needed to give her a Google review before she would give us our testing information. It was awful and she was very unprofessional when teaching the class. Sorry to vent here but where else can we complain? So yes I truly appreciate the help we have in these videos.

I did my opening and closing procedures for every skill I received. My evaluator really appreciate that I did it. But sometimes your evaluator will let you know that you don’t have to repeat the opening and closing procedure. ❤️

I was wondering before you gave the client the call light at the end are we supposed to wash our hands before giving them the call light? Or will that not matter during the actual test?

Watching your videos again as a refresher. I test Saturday August 21,21 I finished my cna course in April but due to covid getting a test date close to the course finish is almost impossible. Hopefully I pass as I am traveling 4 hours to the testing site!

Hi, Good Afternoon. I have a question about the closing procedure of every skill that every end of the skill do I need to open the curtain or keep the curtain close? Just for knowing.
For cleaning the residents hands before the meal should we use hand wipes and also for after? And then to clean their mouth after should we use a wet washcloth?
I keep watching your videos hoping that I retain everything. I'm so nervous because I test this Saturday.

Hi, Brienna! Whenever in doubt, verbalize "washing hands"!!! Whenever you do your "Opening Procedures", it's a good idea to verbalize "washing hands". Do you wash your hands before feeding the patient ?
MS. Julie our trainor thought us to sit the patient on the side of the bed without non skid shoes since the patient is not going anywhere. Give them the call light and locked and lowered the bed and keep them seated upright by the end of the skill. It's the same thing with the mouthcare skills where the patient is seated on the side of the bed. I'm confused now... I read the booklet and the CNA book and it says 75° to 90° angle and raised the head of the bed. " our trainor said it can be done either way ,but the technique that they thought us is a lot easier for say" what do you suggest ?
Hi. Grace! This skill may be performed either way, by raising the HOB to the specified degree and/or having the person sit on the side of the bed.
And, yes, the person must remain upright throughout and at the end of the skill; either have them stay seated at the side of the bed or do not lower the HOB after feeding.
Whichever way you feel most comfortable performing this skill during testing is really up to you!
After feeding, do you also have to wipe patient's mouth and hands with moistened washcloth or handwipes? or can it be just dry paper towels? thank you!
Hello! The cloth you use to clean client's hands before feeding and to clean client's hands and mouth after feeding must be MOIST. If you use a dry cloth for both or either steps, you will receive a "NO" for these steps.

Before feeding, can we also offer the client wipes to clean their hands themselves?
Hi, Debbie! No. This step specifically states, "candidate cleans client's hands before feeding." If you have the client to clean their own hands before feeding, you will not receive credit for this step.
This also applies to candidate cleaning the client's hands and mouth after feeding.
It is so necessary to put the call light before to start any skills? It not suppose to give call light when you finish it ?

Hi, Touseef! You will need to gather a clothing protector and offer it to the resident if you are testing under Prometric.
If you are testing under Pearson Vue or Credentia, the placement of the clothing protector is mandatory.
You may use one moist cloth to clean the resident's hands before feeding and hands and mouth after feeding.
I instruct my students to gather three to help them remember!
Nurse Jar, regarding the gloves during this pandemic, is it required or no need gloves still?

Hi, Shanitha! This skill does not require a clothing protector. This skill does require the candidate to clean the client's hands before feeding and hands and mouth after feeding, as demonstrated in the video. Hope this answered your question!

You have to separate how you will do things in real life from what you are required to do during testing.
Question...I tested in Texas. But failed this part. I put the client up in sitting 90 degree angle, even stated it. Now I'm thinking I was supposed to sit them on side of bed..? Because I don't know how I failed. Only thing I did wrong was stand while feeding instead of sitting in chair facing them.
Hi, Abigail! First, I'm sorry to hear this. You have to remember the 5 Indirect Care Skills, one of which is "DIGNITY". Although you may perform the skill satisfactorily, you could still fail due to violating one of those Indirect Care Skills.
In your case, it is not dignified to stand while feeding the client. You MUST be seated in a chair FACING the client.
Once I feel well, I will do a Super Clip detailing the 5 Indirect Care Skills and why they are essential to passing or failing your Skills Exam.
@@NURSEJAR thanks so much! I thought only the bold skills steps were disqualifier's...? (Which in my case was, sitting client in upright 75-90 degree angle.) Thats why my question is, could I have her in the bed sitting up, or is it mandatory that she be sat on the side of the bed...? Because I totally sat her up in her bed and stated im going to sit you up in a 90 degree angle.
@@abigailvela3257 Hi! No, it is not mandatory to sit client on the side of the bed for this skill. As long as you sit the client in a 75-90 degree angle, it is fine.
I train my students to raise the HOB all the way to 90 degrees, because what's 75 degrees to you may look like 60 degrees to the NAE. If you hike the HOB all the way ton90 degrees, this will leave absolutely no wiggle room for the NAE to question the degree of the HOB.
This may be a stupid question but since this skill is performed on a live person, they don't actually have to consume the food right? In the NA course I took, we just pretended to eat the food but now I'm wondering for testing purposes if you actually have to feed the person..?

Question! You show us to offer one bite then drink then your done. On pearson vue 2018 booklet it says 9. Offer one bite of each type of food on tray. So do we have to make sure they take a bite of each type of fruit or is the one bite good enough?

Hi, Tokunbo! I did not place a clothing protector across client's chest because it is not a required step for testing under Pearson Vue.
Also, fir real life, you have to be conscious of the client's Right to dignity. You should always ask first before placing a clothing protector in real life.

Hi, Jeremy! Nooooo! Don't use sanitizing wipes!!! Use a wet wipe, damp washcloth, or a damp paper towel. Whatever type of cloth you use, just remember that it has to be "moist". If you use a "dry" cloth, you will not receive credit for either steps.
