They asked him to give an example to back up his claims...and when he was calmly trying to state his case...they almost immediately tried to interrupt him. He spoke rationally and tolerated their childish jib jab...and still spoke with reason. What he said then is more true now. Look at the political and social context that (I can only speak of the US) we are in now.....Zappa was right. He thought clearly and genuinely on the matter. That's what is missing from today's leaders. "Bulls**t is the glue that holds together our society" Our "leaders" cannot level with us and talk to us like adults (let alone equals...which we are supposed to be!!!). Zappa was a true thinker and a should-have-been leader. He WAS a leader.

An intelligence so derided and scorned within his own lifetime, Frank Zappa's analysis here is not only spot-on, but it is precisely what has happened, 30 + years after this was taped. What we have is the fascism of capitalism and fundamentalist religion in this country run amok. And, I regret this works for all sorts of religions: witness the Hasidic Jewish community in Monsey, NY, and the Christian Fundamentalists wherever you look. Same disease, spread by two different hosts.

That's what TRUMP DID TO BIDEN in the FIRST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DEBATE!! He just IGNORED THE RULES OF THE DEBATE and just KEPT UP SPOUTING A CONTINUOUS STREAM OF DISRUPTIVE CHATTER in order to GRAB THE MAJOR SHARE OF AIRTIME and AVOID JUSTIFYING IN ANY LOGICAL WAY HIS POSITION or HONESTLY EXAMINING THE ISSUES!! NIXON LIED ON LIVE TV BROADCAST that he was "NOT A CROOK!!" when he was the ARCHITECT of the WATERGATE BREAK-IN!! REAGAN was a BIG FAN and HUGE SUPPORTER of NIXON!! REAGAN LIED BRAZENLY ON LIVE TV NATIONAL BROADCAST in the IRAN-CONTRA AFFAIR and SAID THAT HE WASN'T TRADING ARMS FOR HOSTAGES, but that WAS EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING!! And when he was called upon to be ACCOUNTABLE IN COURT, REAGAN used the DODGE OF OLD AGE, INFIRMITY and ADVANCING ALZHEIMER'S!!! HE EVEN CALLED OUT TO "MOMMY" NANCY REAGAN ON THE WITNESS STAND TO GENERATE SYMPATHY AND LENIENCY TOWARDS HIMSELF!!! NO GREATER ENEMY TO OUR AMERICAN DEMOCRACY CAN BE FOUND THAN THE THREAT FROM THE "ENEMY WITHIN" AS IS EMBODIED IN TRUMP AND ALL THE OTHER FASCIST REPUBLICANS WHO WOULD CODIFY THE PERPETUATION OF PATRICIAN PRIVILEGE AND THE RULE OF VILE, VIOLENT, THUGS IN THEIR "MAGA-MOB" BASE!! OH YEAH, they have SOME STOOGES and CAREFULLY SELECTED TOKENS they are PUSHING UP FRONT to WHITEWASH their AGENDA and AVOID THE APPEARANCE OF UNDUE BIAS TOWARD GOOD OLE BOY POLITICS, BUT THEY JUST DON'T WANT THEM IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD UNLESS THEY DANCE ON THE END OF THEIR WHITE MASTER'S LEASH!!! JOSEF GOEBBELS USED THE SAME TACTICS TO BLAME THE OPPOSITION FOR THE VERY SAME CRIMES THE NAZIS THEMSELVES WERE COMMITING!!! WE HAVE BEEN HEADING DOWN A VERY DARK ROAD OF RACIST/FASCIST RECIDIVISM FOR A LONG TIME NOW JUST AS WE WERE BACK THEN only NOW PEOPLE ARE EXHORTED TO EXTREME VIOLENCE, EVERMORE IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR/THINKING and UNABASHED, BRAZENLY BOMBASTIC, UNASHAMED OUTBURSTS!!! When TRUMP DIDN'T WIN, (and he knew he wouldn't and didn't despite extensive attempts to GERRYMANDER, FIX and STEAL HIS OWN REELECTION BID)!! That's when TRUMP DECIDED TO PETULANTLY THROW THE COUNTRY INTO CHAOS!! If he COULDN'T BE "THE WINNER", then EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY would have to SUFFER HIS WRATH!! HE REFUSED TO ATTEND PRESIDENT BIDEN'S INAUGURATION in a VAIN ATTEMPT TO BLOCK THE ORDERLY AND PEACEFUL TRANSFER OF POWER and REITERATED HIS CLAIMS OF STILL BEING THE PRESIDENT!!! Is this the KIND OF PRESIDENT AMERICA DESERVES?!? A TINHORN DICTATOR WANNABE PONTIFICATING FROM HIS TINY DESK IN HIS IMITATION WHITE HOUSE INSIDE HIS MAR-A-LAGO ESTATE?? Is this the KIND OF LEADERSHIP WE NEED(AS IS EMBODIED IN THE VARIOUS REPUBLICAN CONTENDERS FOR TRUMP'S THRONE)?!? That wasn't media drowning him out. That was Republicans asking him a question then sticking their fingers in their ears, then talking over him telling him they don't want to hear his opinion. Typical Republican response to anything even decades later.

Exactly this. All the brain-dead progressives in the replies who still think it's 1980 (or 1939 in some cases)...laughable. God, I hope I'm not this woefully out of touch when I'm older.
