  • Today we'll use pressed flowers and leaves to make beautiful botanical sun prints (also know as cyanotypes). Sun prints are basically just simple blue prints and they're named for their lovely shade of deep cyan blue. So let's hit the trail, pick some flowers, and preserve a little bit of summer! Wow! What a fun kit. I've been wanting to try sun printing since I was a little girl. A relative gave me a flower press when I was probably about 10 or 11, and I still have flowers in it from way back then to now. I actually have no idea where in my craft room it is hiding, but I should dig it out and pickup that kit. I'm very impressed with your examples. Too bad it is raining here today right now!

Lovely. If you want them a deep blue expose them for about 10 mins. then after watching add a coupe of drops of peroxide They will turn a deeper blue immediately. Wash and wash as before. But I think you like the paler versions anyay? :-)

Such a fun and easy project with such spectacular results! I was wondering where you got those lovely black retro-style scissors? I think you said once in a video but I watch almost all of your vids and cant even begin to try to track down which one! Thanks!

good to see this on a rainy day, ah! 😅 I suppose that you don't necessarily need to use dried flowers and leaves, I was thinking...what if you used other props like those lovely scissors or pieces of dark paper cut in different shapes? Can somebody try and let me know cause I'm sure if I buy that kit, mine, too will sit somewhere for 2 years!

Yes, anything will work! This is just a negative image contact print, you can use anything to make your image. Try experimenting with household items, paper cutouts, whatever. And you can certainly use fresh (not pressed) plants. Pressing them just allows their details to lie in direct contact with the paper, so in theory, you'll get a more detailed, sharper image. Hope this helps!

She mentions she used a white gel pen to write on it after it all dried.
