Mike Smith was the REAL star of the Dave Clark Five and Dave knew it. His amazing vocals really shine here. Rarely does he get mentioned when speaking about all-time great vocalists but it had to be one of the most powerful rock vocals of the 60s. Also making this song is the deep bass guitar of Rick Huxley.
I used to live about 400 yards away from Rick Huxley in Edmonton. It's only just occured to me that half a mile from Rick's old place is "Huxley Sayze" - "Huxley South" and "Huxley Parade" on the A10. How very apt. God bless Rick.
"I Need Love" and "Inside and Out" are from the UK TV special "Hold On! It's The Dave Clark Five." How about some more DC5 lp tracks in stereo. Nice job! Keep up the great work. EDB
Bobby Graham played on 2 songs for DC5. "2!" He also played for other British bands including The Kinks, The Hollies, Searchers etc as a session musician. In the recording booth, Dave was more hands on with sound, which songs got recorded etc. Dave to this day considered it more a business adventure than a music business. He ask for more money than any other band, he got it. He ask for copyrights returned to him after 3 years, he got it and to this day, still controls it. Could he play? Sure but, he never intended to be famous for it.
That’s what I’ve been saying all along. I agree with you. Do you have all these conspiracy people think the Bobby gram Played on all the hits. But in fact he only played on two. The early ones. People love theoriesAnd followers always follow them
With his neat hairdo and not a drop of sweat......Dave always looked like an unconvincing sap behind the drums, .....which he never played on the actual recordings, which were played by session player Bobby Graham... Anywayz....Mike probably wasn't in that great a need of _love_ per se.....but the kind of "love".....the dancing dames behind him seemed more than willing to provide.........
No this was the show Hold on (not to be confused with the herman's hermits movie from '66) from what I think is from 1967 or 68 and known as the last time all five of them played together before dave clark went solo and I think your special you are talking about is from 68' 69.
This was broadcast in PAL 50 Hz - thus was speeded up about 4% - so I've approved a "competitor's" version, where he took my visuals and dubbed the track at the correct speed! You'll find it in the "Video Responses" to this piece. Enjoy both.
Tottenham, TX? Unique U.K. Freakbeat/Southern Garage crossover - very reminiscent of that track featuring the line "Baby! (Baby) - you were doing me wrong. Baby! (Baby)..." which I had forgotten about. Can anybody help, please?
The audio is slightly behind/out of sync. Surely some handy person could fix that and re-up it. The track is available in stereo (from a vinyl rip). I had never seen this and the video quality is quite good!
Well this is edgy as they got . They didn’t want to get dark , dirty , or druggy so they called it a day by the early 70s. I think it was a wise move .
Is there anywhere that has film of DC5 performing "live"? Every film I have seen, is them miming. Even on Ed Sullivan, they mimed. Were they a real band even? I love their music, but, it is strange that nowhere is there film of the performing live.
There's a video of them playing LIVE at some royal benefit in England for Prince Charles ( I think) from the late 60's.. They do "Nineteen Days" and Georgia on My Mind. Both are definitely "live" and preformed very well.
@@patrickfilippone5249 very true, I Saw Them play live in the 60s ,I Know it's hard to find live DC5 thèse days for some reason But believe me they were very good with a good powerful sound and Dave seemed to manage the Drums ok..still Love the DC5s music!.. Graham Nash Said Dave Clark thought he was God's Gift to women, well he was a good looking Bloke..🥁🎷🎸🎹🎸
Notice that Dave doesn't know the tune. That's because he never played on the studio tracks. EVER. He also cheated songwriters and others who worked for/with him. He once sued Mike Smith for using the name "Former Lead Singer of the Dave Clark Five". He's a tool. RIP Mike, Dennis and RIck.
your right, the music is great, but they should have called the band Bobby Graham Five, because he drummed everything! Not Dave. I was so dissapointed when i heard that. Same might also go on with Ringo, i bet Paul played the Drums on a lot of Tracks.
Paul only played drums on one Beatles track - "The Ballad of John & Yoko" (that's because Ringo didn't show for the recording session). Many Beatle tracks have George or John on bass because Paul was playing piano or organ and some tracks have Paul playing lead guitar.
I read somewhere that John Lennon was once asked whether Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world. Lennon replied that Ringo Starr wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.
one of the best groups of the sixties.
way Cool!!! DC5 underrated group and in the Hall of Fame!!! One of the best groups from that or any era
Mike Smith's voice, awesome !!!!!!

That brown girl dancing, She is just amazing...
I always loved that song. It really Rocks for that period. I saw the DC5 in concert it started it all.

GREAT Sixties chicks!
Mike Smith had an impressive set of pipes on him, as well as being a great keys man.
it is incredible how necessary is the beauty of a woman in everything created ... they give meaning to our lives as men who need to love a woman ....
God, Mike Smith was great...what a voice...!
I miss Mike Smith.
Thanks for the quality video. I haven't seen it this good since Disney Channel ran the show "Hold On! It's The Dave Clark Five" last century.
I LOVE This Video!

Tremendo!!! Que fuerza!!!
Dave seems to be drumming along to a different song altogether!
Cozener He always admitted he was a rubbish drummer!
He didnt even play on the hit singles. session drummer BOBBY GRAHAM played on the hits and i'm sure this one. LOL
He couldn't drum nor mime, he was useless but it was his band so there.
he sure was he made the money and still does, BUT MIKE SMITH WAS THE FORCE!
😄😄

Now I just hope that he releases things that haven't been heard yet and have been in his personal collection for some time now.

ace
The Girls ... the best
Girl on the right is Sandy Sargent , one of the Ready Steady go dancers. Look for the live Otis Redding RSG show.
The audio is slightly behind/out of sync. Surely some handy person could fix that and re-up it. The track is available in stereo (from a vinyl rip). I had never seen this and the video quality is quite good!
Punk prototypes. ❤
great tune , got more drive , bit like the kinks
Well this is edgy as they got . They didn’t want to get dark , dirty , or druggy so they called it a day by the early 70s. I think it was a wise move .

As I have commented earlier - what was it with DC5 - no live tracks.
Looks like they were going for an image change.
You look amazing!

Sorry, I´m already married...
all lies, dave wasn't interested in womens asses only men! they should have pushed the boat out and have men gyrating behind him :P
Notice that Dave doesn't know the tune.

he played on some other tracks like back in the ussr and dear prudence. you can look it up.
