    It's really cool to learn about some of the technical hurdles and reasoning behind certain design elements of SRB2, and it's neat to finally see the original GFZ2! Looking forward to part 2!
    EDIT: Also, the old speed shoes effect kinda looks like boosting.

      @@sonikku1011 Why, hello, fellow 30-something-year-old Sonic fan lol. I wasn't really part of the community back then either, insofar my 12-year-old self lurked the STJr message board in the year 2000 (then hosted on EZBoard) and played the hell out of SRB2 Halloween and Xmas. I regret not registering and getting more involved.
      When did you first discover this game?

      @@Konic_and_Snuckles I didn't join the community until late 2008, I discovered SRB2 probably sometime in 2010 or 2011 so about 10 years after this beta was built lol. I remember coming across the Sonic 2 Beta page (which is Sonic Retro now) in mid 2006 though.

    This is pretty interesting! Sonic Robo Blast 2 is my fav Sonic fangame, and it's amazing that is has so much history. Thinking this game has been around for more than 20 years and that's still having updates speaks about it's legacy in the community.

    Wow, what a trip down memory lane! I've been following SRB2 since 1998-1999. It's wild seeing such an old prototype. Will this be uploaded to the SRB2 Wiki so the community can download it? I'm sure the devs behind the SRB2 The Past project would love to incorporate this into their wad.

  • @ScaleyFoxy
    @ScaleyFoxy Před 8 měsíci +6

    My only personal opinion on the Unity or Unreal part is that it was 100% good this game was made on Doom than anything else.
    Mainly due to how easily moddable and how easily accessible it is for people to make their own levels and stuff.
    It would of not had as much popularity without it.

  • @IkinBBfromAnthologyOfTheKiller
    @IkinBBfromAnthologyOfTheKiller Před 6 měsíci +1

    I don't know why but something about the roughness of the older SRB2 versions is really charming for me.
    I could compare early SRB2 to music made by a few teenagers who aren't rich or famous or anything on a garage and later SRB2 is like a well-produced, hit song by a popular band.
    Both are great, just different and i see the earlier one less often.

  • @GauzyGlue
    @GauzyGlue Před 8 měsíci +8

    Omg this is so cool. I've been a huge SRB2 fan for a few years now, and I've always loved seeing prototypes of games and the changes they've gone through during development!
    Also if you don't mind me asking, how did you and the team use Sonic X-Treme sprites in SRB2 when that game never released? I know they were just placeholder sprites, but I do think it's neat that they were used at all lol. And also, do you plan on releasing this prototype? It's a very cool find, and I'd love to see more videos covering it!

    • @krazeetobi
      @krazeetobi Před 8 měsíci +11
