- Divers have captured the rare moment a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck underwater.
The unsuspecting diving team appeared to be lifted and covered by debris as the seafloor began to shift.
On November 8, the Banda Sea region of Indonesia was struck by an earthquake with an estimated depth of 146km.
The 7.2 magnitude quake was strong but did not trigger a tsunami.

Once in a lifetime Event. 😮
I scuba dive and to a diver this would have been a once in a lifetime experience. The divers probably werent as scared as you think we are trained that the most important things are never hold your breath and never panic if you panic you can die and when things go wrong you need to keep your cool above anything. If i was there i would have loved the experience. The best diving moment i will never forget is i was coming back to the boat and was at my 15 foot stop for 5 minutes we do this to keep from getting the bends and trust me you dont want the bends im just floating there looking around and i look up at the dive boat and here is this great white shark circling the boat remember what i said stay calm in any situation and im thinking what do i do, i was diving with nitrox so i had plenty of bottom time left and well i questioned how much nitrox i had to breath i had just below half of my tank i am a slow breather so i dont use a lot of air so i decided to go back to the bottom and just sit there after about 20 minutes the shark decided it had seen enough of the boat and went on its merry way. When i returned to the boat i found out 3 more divers had got stuck on the bottom till it left my dive buddy had to surface about 15 minutes before i did but other divers were around i just didnt know where, oh another rule about scuba diving never dive alone but most of us have had lots of experience and do it but if you do please remember carry a redundant air supply in case you run out of air remember your not a fish LOL
Very interesting story. Thank you for sharing!
Nobody asked
crazy! id be so scared. yet again, thats why im more of a mountain girl and not an ocean girl 😂 thank you for sharing!
its really hard to read..
Imagine the power it takes to move millions of tons of water in an instant. Mother earth is truly scary
Where was this? I’ve watched so many earthquake videos, I can’t even count them. But to see one underwater was something brand new! Wow! This is unique content! Take my like!
My wife is from the Philippines and said the video came from there
It's in Banda Sea, Indonesia
@@Kamikaze00ishYour wife is wrong. This is in Banda Sea.
Wow. I never saw this awesome earthquake in the ocean like this. Very interested. Glad thosr Divers are all fine. Whew.
I love the diver trying to hold onto the rock, dude the rocks the thing that's moving!
I don't think he had much of an option about what he could hold onto tbh. Not at that exact moment anyway.
Actually depending on the epicenter of the EQ the water is also moving
Compared to being on land, they were safe.
Like being under the water is not scary or dangerous enough 😮 🤯
Honestly it looks a lot safer than being above ground in a building during that type of earthquake
@@sparrowhawk5673except when tsunami
I live in SF,CALI never have i ever thought about this. Wow. I know a quake hits but i just didnt really know❤❤❤
Man that's wild!😮
Surreal. Never thought I'd see an earthquake happen underground
Banda Sea Indonesia, today. ⚠️
It has been quite active in the Banda Sea lately!
Man, looked like the ocean was falling off a cliff!
I always wondered about that.
To witness an earthquake underwater is one-in-a-million event, plus a footage! Now I can die peacefully! 😳
August 2023. Banda Sea, Indonesia.
Scary
You notice they follow rule number one never under any circumstance panic. Panic is one cause of deaths with scuba divers. And for those who who dont dive and dont know this SCUBA stands for self contained underwater breathing apparatus it is great to learn one new thing each and every dayLOL
What is panic?
Wow😮
Wow
Wow that's fascinating. :D
tsunami has joined the chat*
Oh my
오!! 수중 지진이라니!!
THE TSUNAMI
guys dont worry it was just caseoh jumping into ocean

My mind goes straight to tsunami🌊

That was scary for you guys not scared when it happened how did the animals react😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮❤❤
Sounds like someone shaking a piggy bank. I've heard earth quakes sound like a train, thunder and sometimes even quiet but never like a piggy bank being shooken.
Was that the sound of rocks or just the camera shutter of person raking photos in quick succession
Definitely anyone pooped at that time 😅
ALERT!!!
😮😮😮
They are way more safer underwater than that of those who on land!
Not actually
😯😯
Underwater
Tf do you do !!
Under water, an earthquake is no less dangerous than on land!
Ur a Moran. All that scary water gonna break and fall on your head Moran!?

Earthquakes are a surface phenomenon, arent they elon?
That's exactly what you are seeing. Water is just the heavier parts of the atmosphere. It's just thick and dense so its lowest, that is what oceans are. The ocean floor is the earth surface. Ok, if you understand that, then think of the divers as being in a thick atmosphere that is allowing them to levitate above the earth surface, because that is what is happening. Now that you can see them as floating, watch the ocean floor. The surface literally pulls away like a conveyor belt as the tectonic plate adjusts because of the release of pressure at the plate boundary. The pressure builds, the plate slips, and you see the ocean floor as the earth surface slide under the divers hovering above it because the plate is moving like tectonic plates move. That is how you can accurately see it is a surface phenomenon. You are literally able to see it perfectly in this video because the divers hovering in the "thick atmosphere" are reference points to witness the actual movement of the surface beneath them. You can't see this when on dry land because you are attached to the surface you are moving with it and everything is moving chaotically, so it is very very difficult to see the actual surface doing the moving.
