- The second time is the charm! Heres is the latest bad idea of mine that's come to fruition. We're going to build a better adventure van that can take us deep in the mountains, down to the desert, or tromp through deep snow. I have a Hyundai iload van I used to use for work. I don't use for work anymore so I decked it out for road tripping and camping. Best thing I ever did. I couldn't imagine not having it now.
It's going to be cool to see an actual budget build, something most people could afford to do.

For the last 8 years, I've been dreaming and thinking about doing exactly what you are doing with ASTRO... lifting, swapping Lo/Hi 4x4 out of S10, building living qtrs, etc.
Watching your video makes me realize how lazy I am... All thinking, no action.

I'm renovating a 1986 Minnie Winnie for full time van-life; it sits on a Chevy 3500 chassis with the 5.7l Chevy Vortec V8. Thanks for sharing, I can't wait to see where your GMC Safari Goes!

Really excited to see that lift job, smaller cars and vans getting lifted really tickles something in me and I don't know why. Also whatever you were painting on the floor looks very satisfying. I'm getting a lot of crazy ideas, and I don't think my wife will like any of them...
The floor paint was por15, supposed to be an ultra permanent, rust preventative coating.

Honestly I saw this vid get uploaded and I was not very hyped. Most of the mtb youtubers out there have begun van life aswell and would do the same thing that is buying premade or just expensive it was rlly nice to actually seee a real budget build but also a person experienced with automobiles approaching van life! Excited for the next episodes
We had one growing up as kids.. many road trips. I’ve seen one rhino lined on the inside floor, seemed pretty cool..

I love my 4.3 Chevy S10. Same shit. SO easy to work on once you figure it out. Parts are available EVERYWHERE!!
I like how mountainbikers build their van, but usually it's something that i cannot afford or think to afford in the next 5 years, so this really got me excited because its simple ans budget, if you have some design problems i might be able to help, cheers and good luck!

Check out stuff called Monstaliner. They actually have a big selection of colors and it goes on glossy. Not matte. Way easier to clean.

Rhino-line the lower half, or third, of the exterior. Plenty of protection from rocks and salt, but looks a lot better to have the top half painted. The aftermarket for those vans is plentiful for sure.

rhino lining would be rad BUT it will add a lot of weight and might drop the mpg you were pumped about before! excited on the build!!!!

If you are still working on those decals. Get a 3M vinyl removal wheel for a drill. I used to de stripe cop cars and it will take the most baked in vinyl and the adhesive off. Just keep it moving or it’ll burn the paint.
That's an awesome tip! Is it the gum colored 3m wheel? Might have to order one up!

Legit, I was dreaming of this video you building a van? finally. My dad has been working on cars his whole life and doing stereo systems he's team was 7 best in the world i believe, so i love cars, and this is a dream come true. Ps nice datsun!
Perfict choice in por15 that stuff is great for fighting rust. Just make sure to cover it with additional paint if it will be getting sunlight since it isnt ment for uv rays.

Yo i just bought a '99 and im gna be putting on the journey lift kit pretty quick. Mines already camper converted so thanks for yer other vid showing that! Super informative and entertaining. Keep em coming. Ill likely be following in yer footsteps with a roof basket/patio ladder and lights and putting in insulation and hardwood flooring/siding and roofing.

I'm working on one myself. Trans is slipping, and transfer case also needs help. I think when I do the trans, I'm gonna put a 231NP, manual engage transfer case. Making it a 4x4 instead of AWD... 🤔✌️😎
