    Ideal location for a mall to solve the vendors problem along Regent and other streets in Georgetown. A mall with food courts on each level, indoor skating, bowling, gym, outdoor running track, indoor parking, oh my!!. There is so much potential for this location. I wish they would design a futuristic building.

    I still like the fact that Durban Park was used for where Mashramini parade was ended. It started at the National Park and ended at Durban Park, which to me makes a lot of sense for a parade. Personally, I, would love to see “Cuffy Square”developed into something more prominent deserving of a national heroes of Guyana, which could include the whole park.

    Great video, brother. It's a shame how the pavilions have deteriorated & it's now left as an eyesore in the capital city. What happened to the flag pole? Is that out of service too?

    How come this the first time that we are hearing that this Durban Park stadium was built with private money and APNU money? Why didn’t the APNU came out and say that they built this stadium with private money. I never heard the APNU said anything like that. Correct me if I am wrong. I love to hear them say it, so I can repeat it.

      This has been said many times before. It goes to show that people believe what they want to believe regardless of the truth.

    It seems very odd that the Coalition NEVER said this was built with private funds. One would think if this were true, they would be shouting it from the rafters!

    • @RaphaelNation
      @RaphaelNation  Před 17 dny +1

      It was reported and repeated over and over again. It proves that people have selective hearing and choose to believe what they want regardless of the facts.

      @@RaphaelNation Actually since I commented initially, I did a bit of research. It seems there was a public/private partnership agreement at the outset with a private company set up to carry out this project. However, the government took the project over rather late in the day as it was obvious to all concerned that not only was the project not going to be completed on time; there were serious quality concerns such as would impact health and safety and overall the project was just not going to deliver what was initially touted. The government subsequently pumped a vast amount of money into the project. Unfortunately, it would seem unto today audits for the monies spent cannot verify where/on what etc the money was spent on. I also noted selected contractors were INVITED by the government to bid. Quite unusual!

      @@RaphaelNation You repeatedly say you are not politically biased yet I detect in your vlogs a definite leaning to the present Opposition (in all their re/incarnations). I did not live here when Durban PARK was built but I do now for the past 7 years. I have to say what your vlog showed of Durban PARK - any government should be ashamed of public money spent on that. The fact that the grounds are still being used is a good thing but it really cannot excuse the debacle. You cannot expect other governments to just brush over that fact and not bring it up. If the shoe was on the other foot, they would have a field day.

    I would like to see this area reorganised into park. 1763 monument at the entrance to the West and walking/bike trail winding its way through the lands extending East. My vision would include a section of calisthenics equipment for the exercise warriors currently working-out at near the 1763 monument. Toilet facilities with heavy duty fixtures would be included along with no more three concession stalls (fresh fruit, water, fruit juices, etc). This would be set in a green, tree planted landscape with a probably a pond. A good landscape architect and some civil engineering could bring this vision to life. Green spaces within GT are sorely needed given the rate of building construction and the creation of impermeable spaces (concrete yards, parapets) to mitigate against the inevitable flooding that will occur as a result.

    Raphael said private investors money spent to build the park, the truth in 2016 congress approved 931 million dollars, they used over 400 million dollars from the contingency fund. People this guy will only criticize this government and protect the previous government, All it takes is a Google search.

    Sir,Government funds were used to complete the Durban Park Project.The sum of 1.4 b app was voted around 2016 -17 but according to the Auditor General zReport some 600 m was unaccounted for.Yes the project commenced with funds / materials donated by private citizens but it had to be supplemented by public funds.

      I have lived in Guyana continuously for the past 10 years and during the periods of construction of Durban Park pavilions. The funding for this project was controversial from the start with the PPP accusing APNU AFC of using government funds. Those accusations were never proven There is no evidence that the money you claim is missing was used for this project. Politics lies and accusations do not equal evidence. Please be logical. This issue was covered in The local newspaper and you can find those articles in The archives of the press.
