Many small countries were bullied or even slaughtered by big countries beforr they can finally become independent and really live for their future destiny . ... The reason behind is solely due to selfishness cruelty of the big countries like US who always like participating in (Past) & triggering / assisting (Now) wars by using ethinical excuse such as humanity , racial or national respects integirty or even human race justice...etc.

I will be visiting Vietnam in the new year and I have always had enormous respect for the Vietnamese people and their powerful desire for independence. No imperial power has been able to defeat them; for that, they have my everlasting respect. Fidel Castro was asked once who he really wanted to meet and what revolutionary he truly admired he said: Ho Chi Minh

Was at Cu Chi in July. I definitely recommend going up via boat from Saigon. Very relaxing trip that way, especially after returning by car and the traffic jams of the day before from My Tho. Cu Chi has to be one of the best advertisements of Vietnamese ingenuity (even if somewhat macabre re the traps).

SO fascinating! I have read all about these in history class. We did an entire section on the war in Southeast Asia. Sadly, I doubt I would fit in these epic tunnels. My teacher really impressed upon us the genius, resilience, and resolve of the Vietnamese people when they were faced with such a large invading force. I was really fascinated and impressed. I think this is yet another reason I have always been impressed by the people and fascinated by the culture, and want to retire there. This was really cool, Van.

Did you know? "Tunnel rats," as American soldiers who worked in the Cu Chi tunnels during the Vietnam War were known, used the evocative term "black echo" to describe the experience of being in the tunnels.
As the United States relied heavily on aerial bombing, North Vietnamese and VC troops went underground in order to survive and continue their guerrilla tactics against the much better-supplied enemy. In heavily bombed areas, people spent much of their life underground, and the Cu Chi tunnels grew to house entire underground villages, in effect, with living quarters, kitchens, ordnance factories, hospitals and bomb shelters. In some areas there were even large theaters and music halls to provide diversion for the troops (many of them peasants) and their supporters.

    Digging the Cu Chi Tunnels
Communist forces began digging a network of tunnels under the jungle terrain of South Vietnam in the late 1940s, during their war of independence from French colonial authority. Tunnels were often dug by hand, only a short distance at a time. As the United States increasingly escalated its military presence in Vietnam in support of a non-Communist regime in South Vietnam beginning in the early 1960s, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops (as Communist supporters in South Vietnam were known) gradually expanded the tunnels. At its peak during the Vietnam War, the network of tunnels in the Cu Chi district linked VC support bases over a distance of some 250 kilometers, from the outskirts of Saigon all the way to the Cambodian border.

In order to combat better-supplied American and South Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War, Communist guerrilla troops known as Viet Cong (VC) dug tens of thousands of miles of tunnels, including an extensive network running underneath the Cu Chi district northwest of Saigon. Soldiers used these underground routes to house troops, transport communications and supplies, lay booby traps and mount surprise attacks, after which they could disappear underground to safety. To combat these guerrilla tactics, U.S. and South Vietnamese forces trained soldiers known as “tunnel rats” to navigate the tunnels in order to detect booby traps and enemy troop presence. Now part of a Vietnam War memorial park in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), the Cu Chi tunnels have become a popular tourist attraction.

"ĐƯỜNG LẠ"- DISCOVERY ASIAN NÓI VỀ VIỆT NAM
    ...
    3. Về Hồ Chí Minh
Anh đứng trước mái nhà tranh ở Nghệ An.
    5. Anh hùng
Anh hỏi cô gái hướng dẫn viên du lịch, ai là anh hùng trong cô. Cô đáp "Ông tôi. Ông đã 80 tuổi, đi qua 2 cuộc chiến tranh. Nếm đủ mọi vinh nhục cuộc đời. Ông là một anh hùng!"

Even the wars with the best of intentions to “save” or to “help” always ends in chaos, revenge, or destruction. What I find so sad and infuriating is that the Great Victory of the Vietnamese over the USA, resulted in so much death AFTER the Americans left. And the forcibly unified country of Vietnam petitioned for trade with the USA and finally achieved this. How ironic and tragic.

From what I have known so far, visitors do require to have the vaccines report at least 2. You can also check the government website for more info!
