Lake Catemaco is a wonderful hidden gem in Veracruz, Mexico, surrounded by volcanic peaks and in the middle of the northernmost patch of tropical rainforest in the Americas. I stay in three different places around Catemaco lake, the main ecoresort, go kayaking, and visit the beach of Sontecomapan. I live in Merida , but have used areas in Veracruz as a "get away" Xico is about as authentic as it gets ..charming town with great crafts , foods and People, Hope you did not miss Coatepec right next door ! also in Area is Tlacoltapan World Heritage site ...BEAUTIFUL .. Catemaco town is not very nice, but the lake is wonderful ..Veracruz coast is like Hawaii ...a great AREA of MEXICO VERY REWARDING TO VISIT ..and YES no GRINGOS...

I do agree with you 100 %. Veracruz is just fantastic & so underrated for travelers.
On the one side it looses tourism badly needed jobs, but on the other. . .It remains more authentic.

What a wonderful peek at Veracruz…I loved both part 1 on 2!!! I was looking to see the area because some close friends of ours, from the area, have worked hard here in the US and have set themselves up to retire there in 2026. After watching your video’s my wife and I can’t wait to visit them! Thanks for sharing…especially like your take on the area and will look forward to exploring more places through your Chanel! Great couple of videos (this one + the one about Xalapa/Xico). Subscribed so we can enjoy your Mexico travel vids.
I think the advice about not disembarking from your boat may be because the shore is a crocodile's prime waiting spot for its prey (which come to drink, or enter/exit the water). Those birds at 4:19 are some type of weaver bird. Not sure of their history, but they showed them on an episode of 'Sesame Street' back in the day and never forgot it.
