    Wow I'm shocked it didn't sell for a lot more. A documented Bloomington Gold L88?? A black '69 coupe just sold on BAT for $610k.

    And yet, for a genuine L88, that seems about 1/3 of where it should actually sell.

      For real. I'm shocked it "only" sold for that much. For a Bloomington Gold documented L88?

      Does seem low. A black '69 coupe just sold on BAT for $610k.

      Yeah but L88s are unicorns. The "lesser" or base models aren't terribly expensive even for a nice one.

    310k for that? You can get a 69 Corvette with a 427 for like 15,000 where I live. Being a convertible definitely adds a lot of value but this shouldnt have gone over 60,000.

    • @netrioter
      @netrioter Před 2 lety +3

      It's the 427 race engine not the regular one. 12.5:1 compression 550+ actual hp. It runs like garbage at idle so it's not really meant for the street. This isn't a run of the mill 427...

    Oh my word that is too much money for one of those. I have nothing against the cars, in fact I rather like a corvette of that generation and a few others besides, but I'm not a car collector. I like driving. And it makes me sad to see all these amazing cars driven waaaay out of the realm of affordability for the average person. The corvette is "the peoples' sports car." Yet these vettes sell for massive 6 figure sums. Maybe the most galling thing is almost all of them, almost all of the time, will be secreted away and never driven. The owner will stand around impressing his friends with how fast that L88 "could, in theory" accelerate from a standstill.
    They should be driven. They should have tiny little dings and scratches, they should be covered in bugs, you should put MILES on these things. Cars can be a great investment, if you get lucky and you wait 35 years. But property and art and firearms will always be better investments, I'm begging you if you're someone who can afford cars like this, drive the things let them get hot let them foul plugs learn to do some maintenance yourself. The first thing I would do if I bought one of these? I'd rip all the factory stickers off that I could find. I'd park it near the door at Walmart. I'd occasionally take it up a gravel road. So I wouldn't even have the temptation to think of it as an investment. I would just be so grateful I had it and drive it everywhere I could. Heck I'd let other people drive it, I'd put snow tires on it and see how a big block in a glass car handled fresh powder : D

      There are tons of C3s in junk yards you can pick up for 15-20k, this however is a super rare L88 with limited production.
