    I had a hard time finding many reviews of the 1Dx Mark III that talked about photos, most were about the video specs. This video has answered all my questions. Great video by the way

    As a bird, wildlife and action photographer, I used the 1D mark IV for years and it works really well. I almost purchased this one a few months ago, but decided on a 1Dx first version and it seems to fit my needs really well. I think I will wait until the cost comes down a bit and then take the plunge on this one. I don’t usually shoot more than 1600 ISO and I don’t think the new version image quality is leaps and bounds ahead of the original 1Dx. The AF tracking, touch screen and wifi are definitely worth the upgrade alone though. Thanks for the helpful video. I agree that most reviews are for filmmaker and not as much of a photographer focus.

    Tell us more about the the _Electronic First Shutter Curtain._ Is it good for eliminating mirror-slap and vibrations when shooting images in the dangerous 1/30th of a second down to 2 or 3 seconds? Even on a tripod you can get vibrations at those speeds...

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety

      Yes it does help with that. Noticed a difference shooting with it. I found lower shutter speeds this worked well or full electronic shutter. Fast action first curtain or mechanical though.

    The AF Smart Controller is a game changer. I need this on all my cameras. Joysticks are dinosaurs. The speed to move AF selection is unreal. Reviewers aren’t talking about this enough. It takes some getting used to, sure. And if you’re not constantly shooting fast subjects, another reason not feel it’s importance. But I bought this camera for shooting birds and wildlife which it does unbelievably well. Between the AF controller and the AF speed it’s near perfect - throw in that unlimited buffer and it’s simply unbeatable.

    I’m trying to decide between 1DX Mk3 and R5. I most shoot photos and not much video. I usually shoot events, so very dark places and people moving fast. With my 6Dii, 5 out of 10 shots are blurred & can’t use them. If money is not an issue, which one do u think is better?

    Great! Now that I have bought a second-hand 1DX MK2... :-( But I was looking for a backup camera for my 5D MK4. I do not want my RP anymore, and the new camera should not have been more expensive than my 5D. So, I got a 1DX MK2 for € 1.900, with a newly replaced shutter. I think I make a good deal and your review and your opinion support my decision a little bit. :-) Thanks for this great review!

    Having no eye-tracking with the optical viewfinder, can it focus reliably on the iris in a close-up portrait with a lense like the 85L at f/1.2, or will it focus on the lashes, as they always does....?
    -Not to mention glasses....?
    My only two gripes with thát camera is that it haven't got interchangeable focusing screens (< an "s"-type focusing screen is needed if You are to focus a lense like 85L manually, googl "Eg-S" if You don't know what I'm talking about), and that it haven't got 40 mp or more.
    -But the focusing screen is actually the bigger gripe of the two....
    Please Canon, make the perfect DSLR before You go all mirrorless, an Eos-1Ds mk 2, with an extra large optical viewfinder (with interchangeable focusing screens....;- ), 80 mpix, a decent ISO 1600 (< number of tones are more important), perfect eye-tracking in the optical viewfinder, 1D quality and a huge 6-7 inch screen on the rear (< which can be done by exchanging the rear dial with one going into the camera, like the one by the index-finger).

    great review as aways. Do you think the postponement of the Olympics will destroy the sales of This type of camera?

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety +1

      Good question, and perhaps for some it would have them think twice especially now if the additional funds they were going to earn from the Olympics to justify the price of this camera. When the Olympics come around next year we might already have a mirrorless version of the 1DX system and so that could impact sales on this, but for a lot of professional photographers in the sports field they still prefer an OVF and DSLR system. I think the camera will definitely have a market, but all depends what happens in the camera industry between now and then.

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety +1

      Reality is 20MP can turn out some fantastic images. Comes down to sensor design and lens. Lens is really one of the things that can make or break a camera system as it’s the glass that dictates what the sensor sees and how much of the image it sees.

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety +1

      Megapixel is megapixel. If you have more you will have better resolution if both lenses are the same. The 1DX mark III’s new sensor gives the resolution of a 24MP image. But it won’t beat a 30MP one

    good thing the smart controller actually can be turned on full time without having to press the "focus points button" first. In that case, you just move the point, then press to select the focus point.
    the portraits were awesome - love the 50. 1.2! the tracking shot was phenom!
    I wish it had 24mpx - i 'd have been in heaven... didn't need more fps.
    nice that the new sensor makes it 'look like 24mpx', but why not 24mpx AND the new sensor?
    That loss of mpx (20.2 down to 20.1) sacrifice to get more fps was a huge miss in my book.
    1000% agreed on the OVF hybrid... thats exactly what i thought. However, i think if they did that, not many current 1DX users would bother to upgrade to their mirrorless line later. I know i would not have for sure.
    the EVF screen looks severely like junk at this stage of the game. So, i will not consider a mirrorless until the EVF improves its performance to OVF level of quality. At that point, yes, i think i'll leave DSLRs behind.

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety +1

      I was having a hard time finding the setting to have the smart controller on the full time. From my experience it was a two step process to activate it. Perhaps I missed something in the menu system though.
      Thanks! Yes the 50 1.2 is a great lens.
      I also wondered they they didn’t go to 24mp as well. While the new sensor does give better image quality than the previous one having more megapixels would have been welcome.
      Yes there is the possibility for those if they had the hybrid not move to mirrorless right away, but the mirrorless capabilities on this camera are fantastic. Should be interesting to see how the take up on this camera is this year.

    • @mikewinburn
      @mikewinburn Před 4 lety +1

      TECH360.TV - here you go... as you found, it's not so obvious how to set it up...but hidden deep in a Canon White paper :
      Direct AF Point selection by touching Smart Controller alone
      (no need to press AF Point Select button first)
      (C.Fn menu > Screen #6 > Custom Controls > select Smart Controller > OFF or
      enabled)
      If a user wants direct access to the AF adjustments in the Smart Controller, without first
      pressing the AF Point Select button, this adjustment within the Custom Controls menu of the
      EOS-1D X Mark III may be of great interest.
      Enable it in the above-mentioned menu, and now, any time the camera is awake, simply
      gliding the right thumb across the flat surface of the Smart Controller will immediately
      change the location of active AF points or zones, during either viewfinder or Live View
      shooting.
      Two points to consider:
      * Faster, unfettered access to immediate changes in AF Area location
      * Risk of inadvertent changes in AF point location, if AF-ON button is pressed
      (slight changes in thumb movement at the button, even accidental ones, can shift AF point
      locations). This is especially the case if Sensitivity has not been reduced to a “-” setting, to
      minimize AF point movement when there’s very minor thumb movement on the surface of
      the Smart Controller.
      Smart Controller suggestion:
      What some users may want to try is to disable Direct AF Point Selection at the Smart
      Controller, and activate Direct AF Point Selection at the Multi-controller instead.
      Now, quick changes in AF point location can be made at any time, via the 8-way Multicontroller.
      The Smart Controller can be used without hesitation for back-button AF
      activation, by pressing it straight in. And any time fast, major AF point location adjustments
      are desired via the Smart Controller, just press the AF Point Select button first, and quick
      thumb movements on it will rapidly move AF points around the active area.
      hope that helps

    • @ssinkram
      @ssinkram Před 4 lety

      I have the R5 on order and was considering changing to the Mk III . It seems to me that 45mp is important but also R5 is way lighter and smaller with very similar speed, low light performance and autofocus capabilities. I hope my L series Lenses will be ok and that it’s a great choice

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety

      L series work perfectly with it. Of course the newer ones will perform better than old L lenses but that’s to be expected. Speed wise you have the electronic shutter if needed but even the mechanical shutter will perform extremely well. Also one big thing with the R5 is animal eye tracking. Its really impressive

      We have our XT4 review coming out next week. My experience was different than that. The XT4 is a great camera but it doesn’t beat the 1DX

      It makes no sense to compare a professional FF camera with an amateur crop.

    The Sony A9 II blows the Canon 1DX Mark III out of the Water, 20fps since 2017. With much better sensor, not just old tech CMOS sensor. And important: no oil spill on sensor :)

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety +2

      Not sure about blows it out of the water. Sony can only do 20fps electronic shutter, Canon can do it with mechanical shutter. Additionally better video capabilities and much faster cards on the Canon.

      @@TECH360TV I am sure. Because 20fps the 1DX Mark III can do only in Live View Mode. And who is really using a 600mm Prime in Live View Mode? I don't know anyone. In OVF Mode only 16fps are left. If I want speed, I take the A9 II. Plus, this camera does not get oil spills on the sensor. I had enough of this issue with the 1DX Mark II already and it is not disapering after 2000 shots, I still have it after 100k, maybe less but it is still there substantially. Unforgivable for a camera at this price point. And you know what? You don't have this issue with the A9 II :) LOL

      @@Stefan1968ful Another victim of Sony's marketing))
      And how many photographers shooting on 1D X switched to Sony A9 from 2017 in percentage terms? By a combination of factors and reliability, Sony will never get ahead of Canon. Yes, and Canon's sensors are better than Sony.

      Alexandr Kucherov Ah, is that so? For your information, I use both Sony and Canon for my business. Outdoor, for Wildlife. Including harsh environments. I don’t miss anything with a Sony, they work like a charm even at -30C. I can compare. Can you?

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 4 lety

      I have the A9II with me currently. I’ve tested them both. I like them both, but for Sony not to update the cards to something faster makes no sense considering they make most cards. OVF still has advantages over EVF sometimes. I wish Canon would have put a hybrid viewfinder in the camera to make it easier to use live view but it is what it is. Not sure what happened to your 1DX and Oil but that’s not an issue I’ve heard from others or experienced.
