  • September 9 is "First Aid Day. In honor of this day, we closely followed two brothers who protect the Osumi region of Kagoshima Prefecture as "paramedics. What are their thoughts as they struggle on the front lines to save lives?
    Emergency medical emergency, incoming call.
Tension ran high at the fire station.
They prepare to go to work while receiving calls for help at the same time. Within a few dozen seconds of the call, ambulances are rushing to the scene. The man who was admitted complained of dizziness and nausea. The paramedics calmly begin to treat him.
The dizziness is the hardest part," said the man. I hope it gets better. I'll be fine."
The paramedic in the ambulance called out to the man in the ambulance. The voice belonged to Yuki Yonenaga, 32, a paramedic with the Osumi and Kimotsuki District Firefighting Association in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Yonenaga transported the man to the hospital and returned to the fire station.
Yuki Yonenaga said, "I am relieved. All I can do now is pray that the symptoms will get better with treatment at the hospital."
Mr. Yonenaga's job, paramedic, is a national certification that allows him to perform advanced lifesaving procedures, such as securing the airway with medical equipment and administering medication to patients during transport.
Yonenaga dreamed of working for the fire department when he was a junior high school student after observing a ladder truck. Now, as a lifesaving expert, he struggles on the front lines to save lives.
Yuki Yonenaga: "What I value every day is to grow every day, even if only a little.
One of his younger brothers admired his older brother's figure and followed his footsteps.
Seiya Yonenaga: "I have admired Superman since I was little. When I was in high school, I saw my brother training on his off-duty days and thought he was cool and superman.
Seiya Yonenaga. He is 25 years old and works as a paramedic like his brother, Yuki.
His dream was to work for the same Kimotsuki District Firefighters Association as his brother, but due to a rule that prevents hiring when a relative is enrolled, he works for the neighboring Soo District Firefighters Association.
I found stuffed toys of Anpanman and Hello Kitty in an ambulance.
    (Q) What are these stuffed animals?
Seiya Yonenaga: "I think it is scary to be in an ambulance when a child calls for help. So I hold the stuffed animal in my hand in front of their face and say, 'Anpanman is here, don't worry,' to make them feel at ease."
We visited the Yonenaga brothers' family home in Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture.
The family is all close friends, and they often discuss their work over dinner.
Yuki Yonenaga, the elder brother: "We talk about work every time.
Yonenaga Seiya, the younger brother: "I learn what my brother does at times like this. I learn a lot from him.
Father Hiroyuki: "We get along very well. They are like brothers.
His mother, Masayo, "Seiya was not good at studying, but when he decided to become an EMT to follow in his brother's footsteps, he started working harder at his studies, and his grades improved rapidly.
Two brothers struggling as EMTs. Although their workplaces are different, they both want the same thing: community safety.
They both want the safety of the community.
Yuki Yonenaga, the older brother, says, "It would be best if we never have to go into the field, but when we do, I hope to build a face-to-face relationship with the citizens so that they will remember my name when they see me there.
Yonenaga's younger brother, Seiya Yonenaga: "I hope that there will be no more emergencies today and that no one will suffer.
The EMT brothers face life every day while engaging in friendly competition.
Incidentally, they have an older brother who is currently in charge of firefighting at the Osaki Town Hall.
